New piano students who search for piano practice routines aren't looking for glamor. They are looking for modeling of a practice session. Most teachers are far removed from their beginner learning days and have a hard time communicating how a student should spend the other 6 days on their own. They also tend to neglect to convey what it takes in sweat to succeed, like a sports coach might. And this is even if they are told things like play hands separately, etc. I truly believe that productive, consistent practice is its own skill that's rarely taught effectively.
Good stuff Alyson! I was never taught how to practice when I was young and it's only been a few short years that I've been learning as much as I can about it. I need to take your advice for sure. Thanks! BTW, memorizing has been a huge problem. Any ideas?
@@nickk8416 Thanks so much Nick for the comment. My most recent video is on that very topic, check it out! But if I had to sum up that video, it’s a combination of knowing your music audibly, muscle memory, and the basic musical roadmap of your piece (Being able to articulate what is happening music theory wise). Hope this helps!
With the Stress section, yes, you made many mistakes. Reset you metronome 10 bmp slower. If you make mistakes reset metronome again 10 bpm. Until you can play without mistakes “rinse and repeat”. Once I get to the tempo at which I can play without mistakes, I play it 7 times, “without mistake in a row. It then reset the metronome up by 10 bpm and ….. rinse and repeat until I reach the desired tempo of that piece. I sounds slow but you are practicing to play without mistakes. Each time you make mistakes and do don’t take steps to remove that mistakes, you are practicing to KEEP the mistake.
You are 100% right. My practice definitely was not perfect, and I was trying to make it as transparent as possible for the video. I will definitely implement those tips! Thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate the feedback!!
Thanks for the comment! I stopped getting discouraged when I realized that they put in the same sweat that I’m putting in. There’s no short cut to effortless playing, there’s hours behind every stellar performance!
How much do you practice everyday? Comment down below!
not enough >:(
@@matt566Lol! Never. Give. Up.

Well said!
How true it is. Even with talent you must practice to become the best. Great insights Alyson.

Cool video, thanks for sharing! Aren’t you getting discouraged by listening to the piece you sweat on being played effortlessly by other pianists?
