A couple of things- 1. My in laws and some of my husbands family were on this ship during the storm. From their point of view- there were announcements made from the cruise director to keep everyone informed and calm durning the storm. 2. My husband has a ship tracker on his phone and you can CLEARLY see where the captain tried to go around the storm but it was too big and just had to try to get people back to safety. I say THANK YOU to the captain and the crew for doing what it took to bring my family back home safe 🤍

My husband and I have cruised several times and hit two horrible storms, we were told we hit 19 foot waves in one and high winds, so they closed off the top deck for most of the trip. The captain kept us up to date occasionally, but we were never worried. It was a big ship and she handled it great. Sure our feet lifted out from under us a couple times, but we were in a storm, we held onto hand rails and were careful. The crew and captain did their jobs.

We took a cruise in 2005. That was the year of all the hurricanes, seemingly one right after another. We sailed in some really rough seas. More than once, the ship pitched up and slammed down in the waves. Those seas lasted at least 36 hours. The wind was so strong that the ship was listing so severely we had to hang onto the the railing to stay upright. Was I scared, yep. Did I make it to make my destination, safely, yep. That wasn’t happenstance. That was a captain and crew focused on sailing a ship in rough seas!

On a flight to Europe, we hit terrible turbulence for 3 hours. There was an initial announcement, then when we got to clear air, a second announcement 3 hours later. We all sat there with spilled drinks and food all over us, stuffing what was left of our meals and drinks either into our mouths or into the seat pockets. The crew was BUSY. But came with towels and helped clean garments and detritus later. I was just grateful to get to my destination.

Better read that tiny print on your ticket, it’s the WEATHER. You got back safe, sounds like the Capt. did a phenomenal job.

What did the passengers want the captain to do? Sing rain rain go away?

Honestly I think there’s truth to both sides here. The lady in the video does come off as a bit entitled and ungrateful, and of course it’s true that no one can control the weather and it sounds like the captain/crew did an incredible job. However, part of effective crisis management is keeping people informed so that they don’t panic. As other people have said, there are plenty of examples of emergency trained personnel keeping people informed and calm even under difficult circumstances. It’s part of the job, at least ideally, especially because when people start to freak out en masse it makes the situation worse. Also lol at the cruise company responding by saying “We are on our next cruise 🤖” Not much of an acknowledgement of what the passengers and crew went through.

1:10 - Must be an expert to know what a ship splitting in 2 sounds like. Did she not expect that her safety would be in the hands of a ship captain? Pro -Tip: don't sail Carnival.

the climate is changing, storms are getting more intense and unpredictable, and passengers blame the crew for ruining their cruise.

Actually if you think about it the passengers are slightly responsible paying for an unnecessary giant ship to sail around just for fun and burning tons of oil while doing so releasing carbon dioxide which contributes to climate change. I know it’s a drop in the bucket but cumulatively it is our desire for largely unnecessary modern comforts (for example: cruise ships) that is driving climate change to a great degree
