Hi... It seems some soda companies have versions of "Jamaican Ginger Beer", but traditional Jamaican Ginger Beer isn't fizzy. The tartar or chew stick helps to bring out the flavour of the ginger. Glad you enjoyed the recipe!
You are beautiful ,wonderful Lady, family, teacher of delicious Jamaica food, drink. I'm going to learn from you . Thank you very much. God bless you and your lovely family.💝👍💟💞💓💖💗✋
Ginger beer is the best beverage in the world... Love it to bits.. Old Jamaican is the best version. First time I tried it I thought it was sooo strong, since I was used to a mild Norwegian type. But the second time i tried it, I was prepared for the strong taste, and I thought it was wonderful.. That just goes to show that you need to taste things several times... I will definately try this recipe.. thank you so much for sharing.. I will keep watching Jamaican cooking, maybe I'll find something else I love also. Cheers from Norway
Always wanted to learn the Ginger Beer making process. Unfortunately, lost my mom before she imparted that knowledge. This is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I am gonna make this for Christmas!! I am so glad I found your channel!! My father was Jamaican and I didn't grow up with him, or his family, so I am just getting "in touch" with my west indian roots and learning about cooking the foods!! I so appreciate the lessons!!
Nice recipe! Here in Costa Rica at the Caribbean coast we have a drink similar to this call "Agua de Sapo" but instead of brown sugar we use "tapa dulce" which is unrefined whole cane sugar (panela). I guess this beverage came to Costa Rica with the Jaimican immigrant workers during the 19th century.
You'll really love this recipe. You should be able to find cream of tartar in the spice aisle of your supermarket. You don't have to use it but it does help with the "fermenting" of the ginger beer
I love Ginger beer but it is so expensive. I usually end up buying them individually instead of the four pack. I never knew it was so simple to make at yourself. I always think everything taste better homemade. Thank you for sharing.
I love your Kenwood mixer! I have one that was made in the ‘60s or ‘70s is still in regular use. It’s strong enough to knead 2 kilos of bread dough without any problems at all. They’re real workhorses!
I use to drink it as a child growing up in Jamaica and recently my girlfriend wanted to know if i could make her some, so i began to search and found ur channel. Im glad i did..u guys are well spoken and loveable. I hope to make some for xmas and i can also get chew stick at the korean green grocer. Im now a subscriber of ur channel. One love.
I make my own ginger beer and I'd like to say thanks for the lesson. Side note, demijohn is the same word we use for that kind of vessel here as well. It's commonly used in wine making, another hobby of mine.
You are such a lovely lady...how fun it would be to spend time learing Jamaican cooking in your kitchen--such an easy manner. Definitely will try this, because I am trying to move away from combonated Ginger Ale--especially the diet versions containing aspertame.
Hi im from Walvis Bay Namibia my great grandma also used cream of tartar in her brew but she added yeast and raisin as well i think it just adds more spunk to the drink.......
Yes! your Granny was correct ..The Dimijon is a gallon size clay/glass bottle/jar...have not heard that term in a long time! ; You put in cloves ,just the way I also remember it..are you from St.Andrew?..my Aunt from August town rocked the ginger beer like this..thanks for taking the time to post this video
+Cook Like A Jamaican I do alot of therepeutic work with people and as a Christian I can pick up on people's auras 😃 I guess it's it's a part of discernment! Ps. I made the gingerbeer for 3 days running...yum!
Woo hoo! I love Jamaican ginger beer. However, the bottled stuff they sell in the grocery store is so expensive. I'm going to try making this. And the cream of tartar hint is perfect. Kambucha and ginger beer; what else do you need? Cheers from Ottawa, Canada! 🍁
You need to put the sugar in BEFORE fermentation & for better results, bring to tepid warmth before fermentation & cover or preferably use a fermentation lock while fermenting. Ferment for 2-3 weeks, not overnight. Brewers yeast may also be used to aid fermentation. By this means the Ginger beer will produce its own alcohol - no need to add rum. Filter & 'fine' before bottling, this removes the sediments & any remaining deposits of yeast (if used).
I absolutely loved watching this video and Im on my way to a grocery store to try this tonight. I've been looking for some ginger beer recipes and I finally found one! Thanks for sharing. = D
Thank you so much for clearing that up for me.. In that case mine came out perfectly... I think next time I will add a bit more ginger to make it extra spicy but otherwise perfect... I even added some brazillian sugar rum to a cup last night and it makes the best cocktail... I can already see me making this for gatherings...
i'm not Jamacian but i am going to try this! I usually drink the usual carbonated shop stuff so it'll be good to get some natural proper stuff... with Rum :) x
I so love your video and your blender, it made me smile. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It helps me keep my kids away from all this fake drinks made here in the United States. Much love sent to you my dear.
I love all of your recipes! I'm going to make the ackee and salt fish for my husband, because he's never had it (I know. I feel bad about that) But I had a question about the ginger beer. Is there a reason that you didn't add the sugar when fermenting the beer overnight? Does that destroy the process?
I just made a batch of the ginger beer and I added the cream of tartar. It tastes lovely however it is not "fizzy" like the carbonated versions I have purchased in the store. Is that normal or did I do something wrong? Either way I am in love with the beverage I produced. I just want to know if it should be more carbonated than what I made. Thank you
Thanks, I enjoy ginger beer, it's m favourite drink. I just made a gallon of ginger beer and two gallons of sorrell. I"m going to try this recipe next. I used more ginger than you did but didn't have the bite I was expecting. I think it may be the type of ginger I purchased at the Asian supermarket. Thanks for the recipe. Do you have a sorrell recipe. I don't have cream of tartar but I'm using 20 grains of rice to ferment each gallon. Wish me luck!!
I made this and it is awesome!!! The chew stick is readily available here In my area, and since I wasn't sure, I used it and a tiny bit of cream of tartar. Thank you so much.
Mam Beautifull Woman💐. ,i like how you did the presentation of making this beverage ,it was really homestyle mood ,relaxed ,funny and raw and Beautifull thank you for sharing .✋♥️💪
I have powder clove .I must buy other clove .Some people do without rum ,but this is delicious . I must buy rum. Maybe I will do without rum this time .
Thank you so much for sharing, i definetly will be making some ginger beer now. Do you need to put in the cream of tarter or can it be done without it. I have never come across it in the supermarket.
Thank you, Fay. I appreciate this recipe. So, if the ginger beer is to strong/spicy I should just add more sugar not more water as well? Also, what does the cream of tartar do?

Ginger beer is really high in antioxidants. I want to learn how to make it but I'd like it to have some natural fizz
thank you so much for this video, I look forward to checking out the rest of your content , much love and respect from Canada
THIS is very helpful information. I can't wait to try this.
This recipe rocks, my wife loves it, my neighbors love it, even my mother in law (who hates me) loves it. Well done!!!
Muzeekjam lol
Chew stick is Liquorice, the natural yeasts in the bark of it and the liquorice help add to fermentation process. Great add on the rum. Thumbs up.
+Claire Will thank you for watching!
Thank you, because I was confusing chew stick with the actual bark AA would chew from Slavery to clean their teeth 🤦🏽♀️

+lclb1990 thanks for sharing this bit of information. Glad to know Jamaican culture is alive and well in Costa Rica.

Fay, you are beautifully wonderful and I really love the recipe. I am now a professional GINGER BEER maker thanks to you.

I love this recipe. I love the over night fermentation, not the days worth that produces more alcohol. Love, love, love your video(s).
I want to learn to cook Jamaica food, drink, everything, and I believe you are perfect teacher.
Thank you very much beautiful Lady.
I love your Kenwood mixer! I have one that was made in the ‘60s or ‘70s is still in regular use. It’s strong enough to knead 2 kilos of bread dough without any problems at all. They’re real workhorses!
3 years later I came to the comments hoping someone would ask or say what that is. Thanks!

I like the white rum in the ginger beer. It gives it a kick!
FYI the large 1 gallon bottles are called demijohns in the UK too, they're around £5 in Wilkinsons
My Jamaican mother in law makes it the best! I recently changed from ginger ale to ginger beer it’s much healthier for your health.
Love your recipe! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful treat!
I make my own ginger beer and I'd like to say thanks for the lesson. Side note, demijohn is the same word we use for that kind of vessel here as well. It's commonly used in wine making, another hobby of mine.

Thank you! ❤ Sweet lady! Can't wait to make this. Bless.
Cream of tartar is a thickening agent, not a rising agent.
Don't know why she was advised to use it.
Good looking stuff. Gonna build me a batch.
Just pick up a little brewers yeast heat up the mixture and stir it in... bottle and wait 2 weeks and it'll be super fizzy and delicious.
omg I love her! adorable! thanks for the recipe!
I only want to try it if granma is making it. She rocks!
Salute this queen

Cream of tarter is in the spice aisle not near the soups like cream of mushroom. Most supermarkets have it.
Ummm delicious...thanks
+Maycie Urriola Thank you for watching! Do you make ginger beer in panama?
