Well, not my favorite dragon, if its about "favorite dragon legendary from Hearthstone" its Malygos (if I spelled it correctly anyways), if its from the lore then it is Deathwing. BUT if its about any dragon card I would go with the Azure Drake, I put it in almost every deck (almost).
well alex is certainly my favorite, it saved my ass and gave me the win so many times(since i play freeze mage). i really like deathwing too, too bad i dont have it :(
TBH I really enjoy this Frost Giants constructed. For the most part, I hate watching constructed save a few decks. However, the win conditions of cycle decks always intrigue me more, as it reminds me of the consistency you would aim for in MTG. Everyone hates freeze mage, miracle rogue, etc, because you often can't stop your opponent from winning.... but that's how card games should be played: You vs your opponent, not your minions vs his. These types of decks are where the game will inevitably go when the card collection is expanded and more win conditions are established outside of basic minion play.

That last warlock messed up. By casting Soulfire first, he has a 16.66% chance of winning (33% chance to discard amani X 50% chance of landing the knife). However, if he had played the knife juggler first, and then the soulfire, he'd have a 25% chance of winning (50% chance to discard amani X 50 chance of landing the knife.).
I suck at making my own decks so I have used yours. Having the deck list on the side is super helpful in addition to being a nice display of editing for the viewers. Holy hell, it's good but it comes down to the wire a lot of the time. You sure know how to use some real bleeding-edge decks. Even delivered a win against someone that had gotten to the legendary ranks themselves at least once.

Can anyone explain how legendary ranking works? For example how many ranks you can expect to climb or drop after a match. Trump possibly implied facing a higher ranked player means you can climb more, but that may just be me reading too much into it. I'd appreciate an explanation or a link to a good source of info.

I feel like Antonidas is weak in this deck. Trump rarely plays him, and while his ability is amazing when used, I feel like it's too situational. Maybe it's because of the rank he's at, but things are always too neck and neck to "set up" Antonidas so to speak. I'm not exactly sure what I'd replace him with, but he just doesn't seem that strong here.
That's exactly my opinion, too much win conditions in this deck: alex, giants, antonidas. Pyroblast is much easier to execute. But interesting thing about antonidas is he can draw attention and make you live longer. Similar to thalnos: he can be used for spell dmg or cycle. Maybe this is the reason. BTW, adding mage wyrms in this deck, compared to Otter's version, makes early game very good. Very good addition.
rruzgarr97 to get fireballs from antonidas usually you cast mirror images/coin/frostbolt+ice lance with him. It's low cost spells. But usually this spells are already used vs aggro decks, so antonidas truns out to be just 5/7 minion. But you are right, against warriors/healadins antonidas will definitely help.
Antonidas is good against decks that have a lot of damage mitigation like heal and armor. You almost can not win against control Warrior with this deck but Antonidas makes it much easier to win.
People complain about Hearthstone being pay2win. You don't need to pay for boosters like in other card games, and when you do they are like $$2 not $7~ (AUS money) nor do you need to pay for travel to go and play against other people. Also, no need for storage of your collection or card sleeves, life counting dice or whatever you fancy there. Yes, money helps but if you want to play a card game Hearthstone is probably the cheapest one you can play, so the complaints that it is pay2win are pretty silly when you compare to like every card game ever. Also, cards which are rare? 1600 dust or hundreds of dollars? 1600 dust is a lot cheaper if you ask me if you are gonna pay money. Building my collection on Hearthstone is hard, and I gave up playing Magic due to money issues, but the thing is... without money you CAN build a collection on Hearthstone unlike with any other card game.

Pay to win or not . - As Trump says you can get most cards from just doing quests and arena. - However the adventure cards seem like a necessity to me. So its - Pay a little to do your hoppy (which is fair) - Pay to save time if you feel like it.
Warlock at the end should have played Juggler first, then Soulfire to the face, 50/50 on discarding the Berserker, then played Doomguard, 50/50 on knife to the face and Doomguard charge to the face for the win. Needs a fair bit of help from RNGesus but could still happen.
As a new player (who has watched for a while now) I don't think it's pay to win. Using a variant of Trump's F2P shaman deck (A variant because I don't have all the cards) I still have the potential to beat people with decent "top tier" decks. On the other hand, I think it's a pain having to grind it out to get the fun decks. Such as token druid, freeze mage, etc.
Sorry long question but could be very interesting, you may have already thought about it. At around 30 mins you are hoping to draw Thalnos as your 20th card. Intuition tells us you only have 1/11 chance as there are 11 cards left. The thing is at the start of the game, the probability that Thalnos was in the first 20 cards was 2/3. Not sure but, Based on a concept in probability theory called the 'Monty Hall Problem' I think that the probability that Thalnos is card 20 is still 2/3 and there is only 1/3 chance of being in the remaining 10. Have you heard of this?
An interesting though charzy, but I think this doesn't apply here. What you're saying is true only for the very beginning of the game, when the deck has 30 cards in it. However, at every draw the remainder of the deck changes and you must re-apply this analysis each time this happens. Of course, the cards in the remainder will be drawn in the order determined by the initial shuffling, but this doesn't matter, from the probabilistic view the deck is a black box for you. A simple counter-argument: suppose you label each card from 1 to 30, and Thalnos just corresponds to one of these numbers. Thalnos is no special from other cards in the remaining 11, so using your theory you could say that any of the remaining cards has a 2/3 probability of being drawn (since at the beginning it could have been in the first 20 with equal probability). Obviously then you cannot have a 2/3 probability of drawing each of the 11 cards :)

If you played for free it would be much harder to win so often and you'd have to play for so long just to get enough gold for more and more packs.
Joroko Korojo This is what i did for a good start :P : (I love alex so much) 1. Made a new account. 2. Won the 6 games , then opened the first deck. 3. Got A golden legendary , it was a popular one , i can't remember though 4. Disenchanted it right away , and crafted Alex Well , that first deck you open has the highest chance of getting a legendary, and i have tested it a lot , the time before that i got Deathwing from first deck , try it. (Malygos another time , and Ysera from first one) I mean i did have an above average collection on the other account , but it had no legendary cards , and i wanted to play Freeze Mage , which Alex is the main card in it. And i wasn't really enjoying other decks than playing a deck that wins late game :P ( I am not a fan of playing agressive , why not play passive and one shot your opponent in late game right ? :D)
After you win enough stars at rank 1 you get moved in to legendary ranks and you get a gold hexagon as your rank symbol instead of the usual ones. The number is what rank you are in the region you're playing in compared to everyone else that is legendary ranked.
In legendary rank, the hierarchy is based on your win rate against other players (plus some maths). The lower the number, the better the player/deck combination is. Top 16 legendary is notoriously hard to get into.
As far as the paying thing: Yes, in order to be rank 1 legend, you need a lot of expensive cards. But fact of the matter is, 99% of the people wouldn't get there even with those cards. 99% of the people will still be at much lower, and over there you can also get by with cheaper decks. And the 1% that are good enough to get to a "professional" rank, got there by playing SO much, that they earned enough gold to buy all the good cards with ingame currency anyway.
Regardless, let's just say this game is pay-to-win with the option to spend a ton of time to get the cards for free. Now someone find me another collectible card game that has that option and is cheaper than Hearthstone. I'm not too familiar with anything other than Magic the Gathering, so there very well could be one out there somewhere. But if we're just looking at Magic and its clones (Pokemon, Yugio, ect), then Hearthstone is far FAR more forgiving that that game is cost wise. Anyone who complains about Hearthstone being pay-to-win is obviously new to this type of game and has no appreciation for what Blizzard does with its business model. Hearthstone is the only CCG game I've been able to play for free and still have all the rarer cards the people who spent money have. And I'm not even that great of a player.

+Koffciak Depends whether or not you value it for spell damage or card draw. Thalnos is a weird card to replace because of how much you want both, but it's a preference.
After. First he tanks is rank with Warrior, then begins the Freezer Burn mage with Otter. Then he makes adjustments and follows up with the similar Giants mage. (You can tell if you look at his Twitch stream archives.)
The main problem with hearthstone concerning pay to win that I have is that there aren't a lot of great 8 mana+ cards that aren't epic/legendary but that's just my opinion.

Knife Juggler, Soul Fire, then Doomguard. 50/50 shot the Soul Fire doesn't discard Doomguard, and 50/50 shot the Juggler hits Trump. 1 in 4 chance to win.
Your way would be impossible because doomguard would discard both amani and soulfire... but you're right in saying that the warlock made a mistake. The way he did it, he had a 66% chance of discarding either the knife juggler or doomguard, which is bad. If he had played the knife juggler, he would have had a 50% chance of discarding the doomguard. Slightly better odds, but that could have made the difference. Of course, there would always be the 50/50 on the knife anyways, so his chances at winning were low.
Because I've played it and compared to Druid, which is what I nearly always play, if requires no thought. Although some midgame hunters require thought. It's called huntard for a reason buddy
Just try contemplate how greed infested some people are, where they can not register the concept that they downloaded the game for FREE. That means that a team of people spent months, and months of their time to create a game, and then spend weeks smoothing out bugs, so you could have a good gaming experience. Then after all that, you get some people who still complain that it's not fair that some people are buying cards, because it will take to long to earn the cards with gold, and the only reason they are loosing is because the opponent has better cards. It's like some people, feel the developers owe them something, when in reality it's the biggest slap in the face. If the P2W problem is to distressing, the simple solution is just to uninstall the game and find another free game to play.
about the pay to win stuff: ofc you could have the entire selection now without spending money... you make a lot of gold from arena if one is not good enough to constantly get a profit from arena runs then it is gonna take a friggin loooooong time to get enough legendaries to build some high tier decks in my opinion it couldnt hurt to give players options to get more gold daily... the quests get a pack every 2 days on average and the 10 gold for every 3 wins... well even if every match is won that is still like 1 pack in 2.5 hours if every match is only 5 minutes long thats pretty ridiculous and makes it kinda obvious how p2w this game actually is (at least if you are not a pro and only play like 2 hours daily on average) that being said i still like hearthstone and im gonna keep playing it
Well I payed only at the beginning of Closed Beta (1 arena entry) just to get Golden Gelbin. And thats all. Playing VERY casually (somewhere 7-10 games in three days) don't have any problems in ladder. In ladder I play priest only and all dailies doing in arena. At this point have 2k gold (for nax) and almost all top tier legendaries. One suggestion. Never buy packs. Buy only arena. even with 0-3 stats it is good collection wise (you gain more dust than just by buying pack and later on dust is the only thing you need cause packs won't give needed legendary immidiately while dust can)
The issue is you're using your gold to buy packs. Use your gold for arenas. The more you play the more gold you get. Plus the free packs of course. Even if you're not a pro, going 3/3 will get you a pack and usually enough gold to break even. Not good enough to go 3/3? ...well then your issue isn't with the cards :P
It is a collectable card game, ofcourse it is pay to win, you need cards to play the game! If they gave out the cards for free then how could Blizzard make money of this game?!? The whole discussion is stupid and results from people not understanding the basic concepts of "collectable card game" and "money-making companies". Besides all this, if you play your Quests every day (or 3 quests every 3 days) and you spend a normal amount of money on a game (you pay for normal games, so buy a 40 pack at the start and you basicly bought the game) or play Arena decently well a few times then you can build a very decent deck to ladder and earn more gold with. If you want to play Control Warrior then you will have to safe up gold for a long time or spend money, if you want to play Aggro Pala/Lock/Rogue then you can get into it pretty much immediately, swings and roundabouts as they say...

- As Trump says you can get most cards from just doing quests and arena.
- However the adventure cards seem like a necessity to me.

Warlock at the end should have played Juggler first, then Soulfire to the face, 50/50 on discarding the Berserker, then played Doomguard, 50/50 on knife to the face and Doomguard charge to the face for the win. Needs a fair bit of help from RNGesus but could still happen.

As a new player (who has watched for a while now) I don't think it's pay to win.
Using a variant of Trump's F2P shaman deck (A variant because I don't have all the cards) I still have the potential to beat people with decent "top tier" decks.
On the other hand, I think it's a pain having to grind it out to get the fun decks. Such as token druid, freeze mage, etc.

Sorry long question but could be very interesting, you may have already thought about it. At around 30 mins you are hoping to draw Thalnos as your 20th card. Intuition tells us you only have 1/11 chance as there are 11 cards left. The thing is at the start of the game, the probability that Thalnos was in the first 20 cards was 2/3. Not sure but, Based on a concept in probability theory called the 'Monty Hall Problem' I think that the probability that Thalnos is card 20 is still 2/3 and there is only 1/3 chance of being in the remaining 10. Have you heard of this?

An interesting though charzy, but I think this doesn't apply here. What you're saying is true only for the very beginning of the game, when the deck has 30 cards in it. However, at every draw the remainder of the deck changes and you must re-apply this analysis each time this happens. Of course, the cards in the remainder will be drawn in the order determined by the initial shuffling, but this doesn't matter, from the probabilistic view the deck is a black box for you.
A simple counter-argument: suppose you label each card from 1 to 30, and Thalnos just corresponds to one of these numbers. Thalnos is no special from other cards in the remaining 11, so using your theory you could say that any of the remaining cards has a 2/3 probability of being drawn (since at the beginning it could have been in the first 20 with equal probability). Obviously then you cannot have a 2/3 probability of drawing each of the 11 cards :)

If you played for free it would be much harder to win so often and you'd have to play for so long just to get enough gold for more and more packs.

2. Won the 6 games , then opened the first deck.
3. Got A golden legendary , it was a popular one , i can't remember though
4. Disenchanted it right away , and crafted Alex
Well , that first deck you open has the highest chance of getting a legendary, and i have tested it a lot , the time before that i got Deathwing from first deck , try it. (Malygos another time , and Ysera from first one) I mean i did have an above average collection on the other account , but it had no legendary cards , and i wanted to play Freeze Mage , which Alex is the main card in it. And i wasn't really enjoying other decks than playing a deck that wins late game :P ( I am not a fan of playing agressive , why not play passive and one shot your opponent in late game right ? :D)

what do the numbers mean in the gold hexagons on the upper and lower left corner
After you win enough stars at rank 1 you get moved in to legendary ranks and you get a gold hexagon as your rank symbol instead of the usual ones. The number is what rank you are in the region you're playing in compared to everyone else that is legendary ranked.
In legendary rank, the hierarchy is based on your win rate against other players (plus some maths). The lower the number, the better the player/deck combination is. Top 16 legendary is notoriously hard to get into.
Pack luck is a factor also I have spent no money and only use gold to buy single packs so far I've pulled 2

As far as the paying thing: Yes, in order to be rank 1 legend, you need a lot of expensive cards. But fact of the matter is, 99% of the people wouldn't get there even with those cards. 99% of the people will still be at much lower, and over there you can also get by with cheaper decks. And the 1% that are good enough to get to a "professional" rank, got there by playing SO much, that they earned enough gold to buy all the good cards with ingame currency anyway.
Regardless, let's just say this game is pay-to-win with the option to spend a ton of time to get the cards for free. Now someone find me another collectible card game that has that option and is cheaper than Hearthstone. I'm not too familiar with anything other than Magic the Gathering, so there very well could be one out there somewhere. But if we're just looking at Magic and its clones (Pokemon, Yugio, ect), then Hearthstone is far FAR more forgiving that that game is cost wise. Anyone who complains about Hearthstone being pay-to-win is obviously new to this type of game and has no appreciation for what Blizzard does with its business model. Hearthstone is the only CCG game I've been able to play for free and still have all the rarer cards the people who spent money have. And I'm not even that great of a player.

The main problem with hearthstone concerning pay to win that I have is that there aren't a lot of great 8 mana+ cards that aren't epic/legendary but that's just my opinion.

Your way would be impossible because doomguard would discard both amani and soulfire... but you're right in saying that the warlock made a mistake.
The way he did it, he had a 66% chance of discarding either the knife juggler or doomguard, which is bad. If he had played the knife juggler, he would have had a 50% chance of discarding the doomguard. Slightly better odds, but that could have made the difference.
Of course, there would always be the 50/50 on the knife anyways, so his chances at winning were low.

He played a miracle rogue. To be honest, rogue itself can be difficult to play, miracle at the most extreme.
Because I've played it and compared to Druid, which is what I nearly always play, if requires no thought. Although some midgame hunters require thought. It's called huntard for a reason buddy

Just try contemplate how greed infested some people are, where they can not register the concept that they downloaded the game for FREE. That means that a team of people spent months, and months of their time to create a game, and then spend weeks smoothing out bugs, so you could have a good gaming experience. Then after all that, you get some people who still complain that it's not fair that some people are buying cards, because it will take to long to earn the cards with gold, and the only reason they are loosing is because the opponent has better cards. It's like some people, feel the developers owe them something, when in reality it's the biggest slap in the face. If the P2W problem is to distressing, the simple solution is just to uninstall the game and find another free game to play.
about the pay to win stuff:
ofc you could have the entire selection now without spending money... you make a lot of gold from arena
if one is not good enough to constantly get a profit from arena runs then it is gonna take a friggin loooooong time to get enough legendaries to build some high tier decks
in my opinion it couldnt hurt to give players options to get more gold daily... the quests get a pack every 2 days on average and the 10 gold for every 3 wins... well even if every match is won that is still like 1 pack in 2.5 hours if every match is only 5 minutes long
thats pretty ridiculous and makes it kinda obvious how p2w this game actually is (at least if you are not a pro and only play like 2 hours daily on average)

Well I payed only at the beginning of Closed Beta (1 arena entry) just to get Golden Gelbin. And thats all. Playing VERY casually (somewhere 7-10 games in three days) don't have any problems in ladder.
In ladder I play priest only and all dailies doing in arena. At this point have 2k gold (for nax) and almost all top tier legendaries.
One suggestion. Never buy packs. Buy only arena. even with 0-3 stats it is good collection wise (you gain more dust than just by buying pack and later on dust is the only thing you need cause packs won't give needed legendary immidiately while dust can)
The issue is you're using your gold to buy packs. Use your gold for arenas. The more you play the more gold you get. Plus the free packs of course. Even if you're not a pro, going 3/3 will get you a pack and usually enough gold to break even. Not good enough to go 3/3? ...well then your issue isn't with the cards :P
It is a collectable card game, ofcourse it is pay to win, you need cards to play the game! If they gave out the cards for free then how could Blizzard make money of this game?!?
The whole discussion is stupid and results from people not understanding the basic concepts of "collectable card game" and "money-making companies".
Besides all this, if you play your Quests every day (or 3 quests every 3 days) and you spend a normal amount of money on a game (you pay for normal games, so buy a 40 pack at the start and you basicly bought the game) or play Arena decently well a few times then you can build a very decent deck to ladder and earn more gold with. If you want to play Control Warrior then you will have to safe up gold for a long time or spend money, if you want to play Aggro Pala/Lock/Rogue then you can get into it pretty much immediately, swings and roundabouts as they say...
AdmiralKnight i already adressed arena... i said if one is not able to constantly make gold from these runs its hard to get a lot of packs fast
and going 3/3 which is the average for a casual gamer will not make a profit
