She's hypercritical about a lot of her early work prior to Buttefly. She is absolutely right about the original Loverboy Firecracker mix, the final cut that she had to redo sounds so much better to me with the Candy sample.
@@IsaiahCarroll95 that's not the final product that we heard right now tho. It's just the original vocals from the session and just put the instrumental on that and that's it. I'm sure there's a final product somewhere but unfortunately she hated that era that she maybe burned all the recordings on that final version
She actually dissed not the song itself,but the "Someday" video here literally dissing specific shots.

She dissed “Someday” in her #1’s to Infinity liner notes. Mariah said it was overproduced and it basically ended up completely different from her demo version of Someday. The music video made things much worse.

She never said she disliked or hated Prisoner. She only said the “justice for Prisoner AND You Need Me” isn’t going to happen. Which is true cuz who’s going to play these songs. They weren’t even released as singles back then. And always remember how vocal she is about her aversion towards the over production of her debut album which is the reason she isn’t a fan of IDWC because of how the song sounded differently from how she wanted it to be. Same goes to the rest of the songs.

Technically, she never said she hated the song "Someday", she just didn't like the music video because of the way it looked. So that's a different thing. What she said about the song is that she preferred the demo version versus the final product we all hear on the debut album because for her, it sounded "over-produced" that it lost it's style that she had intended for the song to be.

It's crazy that songs from the first albums sound "overproduced" to her when songs from Butterfly or Charmbracelet are too loaded with extra vocals from her own voice. Sometimes, that feels tiring

Exactly ! She’s a real artist, and she’s even said how she’s had to fight for that artistic vision at times , I think if she wasn’t frank and sassy , things wouldn’t have become iconic masterpieces
She does it for two reasons, she is a perfectionist (which makes her be very hard on herself) and second is that she is insecure, if you notice Mariah tends to do a lot of self-deprecating jokes, a way to mask with laughter certain feelings, some which could be about inadequacy.
So yeah, has nothing to do with being mean, shading or dissing. I think it is a way to cope with some things, I see her for the most part as a person with a lot of resilience, emotional endurance which is something I admire about her and got to love her work ethic... when she is working haha. Her music is fairly uplifting imo which sets her apart from so many other artists, most of all today where sad tragic and depressive songs are abundant.

It's funny, I Dont Wanna Cry was the song that made me a Mariah Carey fan. That song made me stop in my tracks back in the day.
I Don't Wanna Cry is a masterpiece.
I remember an interview of Mariah in her 20s and she said she had never been sad about a heartbreak bc she never had one, so I can understand why she would say that "I don't wanna cry" is the least of her personality. That is actually a pretty mature song in terms of lyrical meaning. I'm actually amazed how well she could put into words feelings or situations that she hadn't experienced if you consider her first album, few of the songs were written when she was about 16 y/o. She must be pretty good at understanding, observing or just paying attention to what ppl go through, like those persons who can read a room when they just arrive.
I stay listening to You’re So Cold… that production still slaps to this day. The drama of it. The sass… she may hate it but I love it for my lifetime.
Absolutely. Her saying she doesn't like it and towards the end of the video not to listen to it smacks of bitterness. She seems to despise or resent that time of her career but that's when she made the music that made us love her.

Almost Home is SO good. Her vocals were fire. I love it. (I think she thinks to highly about herself on songwritting... I think her catalogue its really unidimensional).
Because Crybaby, #Beautiful, My All, Migrate, Meteorite, Breakdown are similar to Hero and We Belong Together... right.

Funny that she hates "Hero" coz I feel the same way. I think that "Hero", "My heart will go on" and "I will always love you" fall into that category of boring predictable ballads. They were number one songs, but they annoy the heck out of me.

the thing about the 90s is as an artist your either a hit or a miss, many many younger generation people need to check her catalogue & her stats, every album she came out with had momentum & had sales. numbers that can no longer be achieved, the only artist close to achieving that would be adele. but many artists of her time have come & gone. there should be more MC appreciation in my opinion, same with Whitney Houston.
She hates all my favorite songs and loves all my least-liked songs. Maybe she just disses anything made during the Tommy days? And c'mon Prisoner is the GOAT! In fact the entire back-half of her first album is some of her best work!

Mariah sabotaged herself with that Firecracker ordeal, the Cameo sample was way better and instead of celebrating it her anxiety overshadowed everything about Glitter and scarred her in ways that could have been avoided but it's all part of her journey I guess,
But it's not that easy. If you have a plan and are convinced something is right, it is right. It takes a long time to adjust those thoughts. Plus it doesn't change the fact that it was still stolen from her.
@@pa1738 of course but someone else would have jumped on that Cameo opportunity and brushed it off faster and waited for the right opportunity to revenge properly.
But she couldn’t do that because she was coming off of 10 years of being overly protected and in no way capable of handling the hardballs that her ex was sending her way.
She’s definitely toughened up since but the damage caused by that episode would’ve been far smaller had she not been so vocal about it. Easy to say for sure. Bless her in all cases.

@@j.c7719 keep in mind that we’ve had it engrained in our minds for decades. The Firecracker one is less in your face but something tells me the released version isn’t exactly what it would’ve been had it been finished. As I said before anger and anxiety (which was very understandable under the circumstances) got the best of her at the time.
She said it does not represent her personality in some of those songs. I admire her truthfulness.

@@kennethsoshi03 Mariah herself stated that it's indeed the original version on her memoirs and on the album booklet. Knowing how much she hates the Loverboy incident, I doubt that she would recreate the track just to include it on the Rarities album. If the track wasn't ready, she would just ignore it and not included on the album.
@@RadioCJG idk the beat was soooo modern like early 2010s sound so I doubt that. The whole album was 80s themed and I don't hear any similarities on that song to the other tracks. Even Save the Day and Loverboy are both similar and can be cohesive on a particular album and STD created in the early 2010s or late 2000s if I'm not mistaken.
I am glad Mariah did not end up with the Firecracker sample cos it was horrible.. Loverboy with Cameo sample was a hundred times better.

Sorry but I kind of agree with her with respect to “you’re so cold”, and Emotions is my favorite album from her overall (though I go back and forth between Emotions and Daydream). “I don’t want to cry” is excellent. She didn’t say that she doesn’t like it. She just said that it’s least reflective of her personality, which is okay, and which I can kind of see.
