  • Despite interviewing Bill Belichick twice, the Atlanta Falcons hired Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach. Morris was previously with the team as interim head coach in 2020 after firing Dan Quinn midway through the season. Colin Cowherd explains why the Falcons hiring Morris over Belichick was an "easy choice," then further breaks down whether the former New England Patriots head coach will not be on the sidelines this upcoming season. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are set to host their first AFC Championship Game in franchise history against the Kansas City Chiefs. Colin explains what an AFC Title would mean for Lamar Jackson's legacy.

    Everyone is missing this. RM was hired because he is bringing a hotshot OC with him. Do you not think that was discussed? Worked well for the Texans and Lions. It’s a copycat league unless you have a Mahomes or Jackson. BB absolutely wrecked the Pats roster. No one wants to give him total power over the roster for him to retire in 3 years. ATL would have hired BB in a minute despite his quirks if he would just coach.

    Belicheck aside Raheem is a weird hire. As Colin likes to point out he’s a defensive coach so that’s behind the 8 ball to begin with. His defenses with the rams were average & his defenses with the falcons were downright terrible. And his win loss record as a HC is 21-38. The falcons arguably should’ve hired vrabel over both bill and Raheem

      Great point. I'm a rams fan and I was very disappointed at a lot of calls on defense all year and especially in the playoffs. I know we don't have the best personnel on defense but I didn't think Raheem was anything special.

    • @phenoms10
      @phenoms10 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are points that cancel the theory that says... sure, Morris is primarily a defensive coach but who's worked on the offensive side of the ball (in Atl with Shanahan) working under Mike & Kyle (WSH/ATL) then McVay (WSH/LA). I'm not a Rams fan to question that squad & results but constantly signing older players to compete for a title is how I see that and was able to raise the level of later round talent (esp this year).
      Really, 17 - 31 for a BAD Tampa team who he took over post Gruden at 33-35yo.. Who in comparison (he) held the only double digit winning season until Arians & Brady linked up. Also after that 10 win season the Glazer family taking that team apart didn't help. His 4 wins in Atl post the DQ firing at 0-5 to start... It was about the shift in the play vs the record of that team.
      As a Falcons fan I wanted Harbaugh (who wouldn't) and Vrabel was in my top 3 but I assume it might of been too close to Arthur Smith and Morris was kinda a sweet spot of the 3 choices who had things that Atlanta wanted.

    In the end, it turned out that neither Brady nor Bill were some kind of magicians. Brady couldn't win his last game with them. Last game as patriot, he throws a pick six with his team down by 1. And with Bucs he couldn't put up more then 13 points vs the rams. As for Bill, last few seasons proved he's not superhero either, his rebuilding and drafting was not that successful, the team went down under his watch, he has to take his part of the blame as well.
    Still, I believe no team can stay on top for few decades, Pats would go down sooner or later, with or without Bill and Brady.

    Bill Belichick the GM got Bill Belichick the Head Coach fired. Everybody should want to hire Bill Belichick the HC, nobody should want to hire Bill Belichick the GM. If he wanted total personnel control, then it was an easy "no". Think about it; which Belichick would you be getting if you hired him? The 6 ring winner, or the 4-13 HC from last year? The most dominant coach ever or the one from the last 5 seasons without a playoff win? Knowing that he doesn't come with Tom Brady as a package deal. Knowing that you don't have a serviceable QB on your roster, do you trust Bill Belichick to find an offensive rhythm for your team? To develop the QB? And how long would he stick around? He's 71. It's not as easy a hire as people want to pretend it is.

    Raheem Morris is not a good head coach 24-38. Does he deserve another chance of course. But hes not a HC material.

    The falcons should have hired bill they never won the Super Bowl who cares about the vibes or attitude that’s why Atlanta will always be losers because they are allergic to greatness bill belichick is greatness he could have gave the falcons a Super Bowl

    First time I’ve agreed with Colin in a long time. It was definitely about control and vibe. For better or for worse, Atlanta is a “vibe” city. I’m liking the hire more and more.

      Granted. He has a ton of talent but he’s been so-so to bad in the playoffs. He’s one of those good regular szn QB’s but he just is not able to transition that against better teams in the playoffs.

    Impossible to take Colin seriously anymore. Before Tom left, Colin was calling Bill a god and going on and on about how just like he watches LeBron, he roots for dynasties and appreciates greatness. First two minutes and he’s killing Bill’s career lmao. I get he’s the hot take guy, but if you flip flop on everything, then you’re just desperate for attention and you don’t have any real opinions other than whatever you can think to say that makes your bank account bigger. And power to him, but if that’s your play don’t be surprised if you get zero credibility. It’s like a guy that has 15 favorite teams in the NFL and one of them wins the Super Bowl and he goes crazy to his friends and social media. Nobody is taking that seriously 😂

    Colin can you please consider replacing JMac with John Middlekauf. I used to be a JMac fan but lately he is obnoxious and gives absurd takes (constant obsession with Brock Purdy, coming for Cam Newton) his comments on the air are out of pocket And sometimes offensive. When you take days off and he fills in for you the show is literally unwatchable. He has no chemistry with Alex Curry you can tell Alex can’t stand him either. Nobody cares about his twitter beef with Cam Newton. The guy should not be on TV. He reminds me of Tony Romo. John is way more professional, respectful, and intelligent. Hes knowledgeable about what he does and you two have amazing chemistry. Im sure JMac is a good guy and a hard worker but good lord he’s hard to listen to. Just my 2 cents
