  • For this series I’ll be taking you with me through NYC to various Music Stores. Sifting through CD’s, vinyl, and whatever else the stores have to offer. Then at the end I’ll un-bag the loot and discuss why I chose the ones I did. Come on…let’s go to the record store!

    My son and I watched this today, before our James Bond film of the week. Very enjoyable, and you got some great deals! I've got several of those that you bought. When I was in NYC, I never went to any of the museums, which is something I'd like to see one day. My friend showed us all the music locations - Strawberry Fields, the Dakota, Greenwich Village, Soho, Washington Square Park, and the place where him and his buddy used to go to listen to Frank Zappa rehearse with his band every day. We went to Rockefeller Plaza and tried to get tickets for Letterman at the Ed Sullivan Theater, but it was sold out. He also showed us Needle Park, which is like this little island in the middle of a road, with trees and bushes and benches and stuff. It was all very cool, but I'd like to go back one day and see the art and the history stuff.

    Hi Brendon, I enjoyed your trip into NYC it brought back so many memories. I have been to NYC a couple of times and interestingly have stayed on 42nd st over the road from Grand central station and I have been to the MET and I love Ancient Egypt so also visited that part of the gallery too! I recognised so much in your video so that was really cool. I used to own that Best of Kansas many years ago. The only addition to my collection lately is RAUM on vinyl the latest Tangerine Dream album I picked up at the Leeds gig, that was so awesome!

    I love these videos when you take a trip to the record store. Can't get enough of them. Did I just see Izzy Stradlin and the Juju Hounds 1992 S/T debut album as one of the cd's you showed for $1.50? Unfortunately, I live in OH, not in NYC, but that's a cd I'd like to have in my collection. And I doubt I'll ever make a trip over to the Big Apple anytime soon in the near or far future. But that's a cool find, and I figured you probably already owned that one. And the Ian Moore S/T disc is really good. "How Does It Feel?" is the big hit from that album, one of the most underrated album rock radio hits from 1993. Another cool find for $1.50. I would have definitely picked up that one for sure, also. And Shania was Mrs. Mutt Lange for 17 years, and the couple have a son from the marriage. Mutt produced albums for various artists, 50 years and counting.

    I don't get rid of my various artists or individual "best of's" even after acquire the tracks elsewhere. There are many edits and mixes even that sometimes "sneak out" inadvertently. Occasionally an unfinished mix will pop up on a compilation without anyone knowing better. Furthermore, in the 60's you have the stereo vs mono mixes and many are not just the stereo version summed to one channel.

    If you like the New Wave sound which I think you do I think that you would like AFI and their latest few albums. They started out as Hardcore and then went Horror Punk and then Emo and now New Wave. They always evolve In a good way. I don't hear you talking about punk much except Ramones, Misfits and proto punk like MC5. I think you may enjoy The Damned. They started punk and evolved a bit going Goth and back to punk. They toured back in the day with Marc Bolen of Trex and with Motorhead. You may even like The Buzzcocks.. Just a few bands that I think you may like.. )^_-)/

The Misfits were very inspired by early Damned music.. And The Buzzcocks are very pop punk way before pop punk. With a little bit of Joy Division thrown in.. You may like them. I kinda dig 70's glam and punk. NWOBHM and 80's UK-82 bands.. Mainly GBH who used to be Changed GBH. You probably never heard of them but imagine Motorhead meats the Sex Pistols .. Anyways yeah.. Oh.. by the way, what ever happend with the “long boxes”? And do second hand stores ever carry them?

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The long boxes were created as a way to make it harder to steel CDs. The box was bigger than what someone could stick down their pants. They were eliminated for reusable plastic holders the size of long boxes. But eventually done away with when it cost more to prevent the steeling of the CD than what the CD was worth.

    • @timfaracy754
      @timfaracy754 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrendonSnyder The record store bins were made for LPs so the long boxes with the album designs or plastic frames used later raised the CD to make it visible to browsers. Eventually they decided vertical shelves were adequate for just jewel cases. I do find empty cases sometimes at Bookoff. I saw a CD in a sealed long box recently at Generation Records.

      The store doesn’t knowingly stock bootlegs. None that I’ve seen anyway.

    Just buy a pack of empty jewel cases!?

      Yes I don’t get that either. I am sure Brendon would be able to buy a fresh pack of shiny new jewel cases for effectively what he’s paying for 5-6 second hand CDs with second hand jewel cases and unwanted CD music/sleeves.

      The current jewel cases that are sold are so cheap and flimsy they aren’t worth it. I like the old school very durable much stronger jewel cases. So I buy the $1.50 CDs to get those.

      @@BrendonSnyder given the size of your collection have you ever considered getting rid of jewel cases and buying cd sleeves, I've done so myself just to shrink my collection it's getting unmanageable.

      @@BrendonSnyder A good point 👍🏻🙂 It is understood for us also 🙂 And if there is a good album on a disc packed in a "those days" firm jewel case made from normal plastic at USD 1.50 shelves like in this store where I could find something interesting for me for sure, it is a great deal ☝🏻🙂
