    I love people taking the time to share their trades. My mom asked if I could make her a cinch. Watching your videos to decide if it’s something I can do

    Hi I love your videos thank you for sharing the trade. I’m curious about making mohair headstalls, breast collars, and halters if they are woven the same way?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Breast collars are woven the same way as a cinch. Just smaller in size and on an O ring. Headstalls and halters are braided, not woven. You can find directions for those in many books. Look for braiding horse gear books.

    Great videos but is there any chance you could make a video on making an english girth?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016

      Probably not. I just don't know enough about Enlish style to be knowledgable.

    Could you give me some guidance on how to do the bottom section of the breast collar where it attaches to the small Dee ring that attaches to the leather tug? It seems to be a different type of weave/knot.

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bottom section of the breast collar is often done in leather. The woven ones use the same knot at the top as done on the cinches, that is, the larks head knot. The bottom of that section is done the same as the roper cinches. So you are using a combination of the two. I don't have a video on roper cinches but you can find one at UBraidIt. Simply, the mohair cord goes over and under the bottom ring. Then you weave a few rows to hold the cord in place.

    When making breast collars, where do you get your tugs to attach to the saddle?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can probably find them at a local saddle shop. Maybe a feed store? If you have a local leather crafter they can make them for you. That would be the least expensive alternative. You can also purchase them at UBraidIt.com They are under Leather Accessories - Breast Collar Tugs.

      Panhandle Leather for the hardware and 4 ply or UBraidIt has everything. Both sell online.

    I love your videos! I really want to make a mohair breast collar, but am unsure how much mohair to purchase and the length of each side of the breast collar. Can you help me know how much?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each side is approx. 14" not including the hardware or 16" including the end ring. You will have about 9 warps, again depending on your hardware. Multiply the number of warps time the length and add another yard to cover the knots and that will give you the about of mohair you'll need. Keep notes so you will know how much you use for the next one!

    Any suggestions where to buy a cinch weaving frame?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UBraidIt.com has frames that can be shipped. That's the usual problem - they are too big to ship. You can also check on Etsy. Also check some of the Facebook pages devoted to mohair cinch weaving.

    How much to make, estimated for 28 inch, straight cinch?

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roughly estimated - 17 strands x 28" = 40'. Allow a couple extra yards for knots, etc.

    • @carolinespurgeon6016

      UBraidIt.com used to have several types of looms available but last time I checked they only had one style. You might try them. You can also try Pop Wagner. UBraidIt has the mohair yarn and hardware. Hitching Post Supply also carries the yarn.

    • @carolinespurgeon6016
      @carolinespurgeon6016  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I made my own. It is made of 1 x 2s. The sides are 4’ long. The top and bottom bars are 12” long. Legs are about 15”. The bars that hold the hooks are however long to fit inside the frame. Those need to be made of a hardwood like birch, hickory or ash so they don’t wear out.
      I considered selling them but too hard to ship. U Braid It has a similar one but I’d change the hooks to face outward rather than down
      Hope that gives you some ideas.
