    Thanks again Chris for inviting me to speak and putting this together! I really enjoyed our conversation!

      Thanks a lot for the PID toolbox!!

      Echoing what Limon said, thank you for this excellent tool!
      With bringing this tool to the masses, have you ever envisioned a future where pid toolbox is integrated with betaflight to the point where we can have an automated tuning process?
      I imagine it could look like PIDtoolbox deciding how a current log compares to a previous log, look at the PIDs for both, and provide a guess for a better PID setting.
      Thanks again for all you do for the community

    Great conversation! Definitely agree with what Brian said about PID fundamentals being less talked about these days. It's hard for a beginner to know where to even start when it comes to PID tuning. To this day I have no idea...

    Fascinating conversation. I have 3 AOS frames and used Brian’s tuning method with each one. Without people like you and the Betaflight devs investing so much time in this hobby I don’t know where we’d all be. A huge thank you.

    Awesome interview gents!
    It is awesome to see how far we have come now with PID understanding in relationship to quads. [ The KEY base relationship: D --> P --> i ] 😁
    51:51 -- 💯
    Side thought: I think the plague of the cinelifter folks is also electrical noise on the gyro from the 4-in-1 ESCs (x2) that are used more and more.

    • @ChrisRosser
      @ChrisRosser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could that key relationship now be D->P->FF->I as it seems like the ideal I term now depends heavily on the leftover delay from setpoint to gyro after FF is tuned?

    It was only a matter of time and schedules for this nice conversation. I've been following you both for quite some. It's great to see great minds come together in the FPV world.

    Great interview, I have a lot of respect for Brian, he’s made a fantastic piece of software and he went above and beyond to help me with an issue by actually calling me and working through it.

    Chris. I love this interview! Brian is great. I feel like I learned a lot from your videos and they definitely deepened my knowledge but as far as an easy to follow process with not as much guesswork for an idiot like me Brian's basement tuning method worked so well!!!

  • @OCD_FPV

    I just got back into the hobby after a 5 year gap. Wow the changes are incredible, stock pods, bidirectional dshot, dynamic filters, pittooolbox and more.
    I always wondered why we couldn’t just look into flight data more in depth back in the day for tuning. Glad someone created a monitor tool to be able to review gyro set points to get a good scientific tune.

    Too weird, I found Brian and his legendary tuning status in the cinelifter community while searching around FB groups yesterday. I have a cine70 and another x-class frame coming this week :)
    Edit: I'm having flashbacks of my EE controls course watching this video, the most painfully informative class i've ever taken.

    Great video. Brian is the man!
    Brian, if you ever planning to jump off Matlab, check Julia language. It's modern, open-source, its as clever as Matlab (similar syntax), and has a bunch of math libraries, designed for scientists, all kinda fancy plotting. But it is also as fast as C, you can compile it into a native EXE without the necessity of any runtimes. And it can be even a web app :)

    • @Quick-Flash
      @Quick-Flash 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure it can in practice hit c levels of speed, but still a very cool language. Itd be cool to see pid toolbox written in julia.

    • @IvanEfimovLimon
      @IvanEfimovLimon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Quick-Flash well of course it's not exactly. But relatively to python, Matlab it's very fast.

    • @Quick-Flash
      @Quick-Flash 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IvanEfimovLimon I was actually curious about the speed as there are relatively few c speed languages, and this has some claims that it is that dont quite seem to pan out. But pidtoolbox would likely be more accessible if we could ditch matlab and it would likely run faster as well. Right now rust has been my favourite language to play with, so perhaps we could see a rust port...

    • @IvanEfimovLimon
      @IvanEfimovLimon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Quick-Flash hase the rust actually made for science and plotting tho?

    • @Quick-Flash
      @Quick-Flash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IvanEfimovLimon wasnt made for one type of programming, but there are ways to do all these things in rust. Probably today would be easier to do in julia if I were to guess.

    fill the cinelifter arms w expansion foam like a LOW deflection pool cue- these are done this way and sealed w a vaccum effect that leads to a serious vibration dampener in pool. seems like it could apply

    The neg part of tuning PD balance via PI Gain is that when tuning slider from down to up you start with high D instead of slowly ingcreasing the D Part. One of my ESC Mosfets burnt through because of that. Tuning the D Gain slider from bottom up is way more safer

    Hi Chris, I bought an AOS 3.5" frame and built it with HGLRC 20x20mm, DJI O3 Air unit, and Emax ECO II 2004 Brushless Motor 3000KV with 6S battery. I can't get the tune right. I've tried BF 4.3 preset for AOS 3.5" still it does fly right. I can't seem to get rid of the flottering with mid or high throttle. Do you have a good tune for this frame that I can try out? or any suggestion for me to try with? Thanks. PS. I'm part of the Chris Rosser bought me a coffee.

    Why does more D term allow I term to build up even more? Cuz it slows the response for P, creating more error over time, so more Integrative correction needed?

    • @ChrisRosser
      @ChrisRosser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Higher P & D gains reduce I term windup. Once you have the righ PD balance P&D term increase together to maintain the correct ratio so sometimes when I talk about increasing D I also mean increasing P term as well in proportion.

    Is the 3x motor harmonic due to 3 bladed props or something else?

    • @cinemoriahFPV
      @cinemoriahFPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frame resonates in certain modes at fundamental and harmonic frequencies that are integers of the fundamental frequency.

    • @ChrisRosser
      @ChrisRosser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      3x the motor harmonic is strong because of 3 bladed props. If you use biblades you get stronger noise at 2x.
