    This is a really easy to use infotainment system and I love the large touchscreen; if I had one complaint is that because it is high up it is hard to touch precisely what you want while driving.
    This is fixed in the next gen models as the touchscreen is in the middle of the dashboard making it easier to reach.

      Yes that is my one main annoyance is having to bend forward to use the infotainment system...very annoying and uncomfortable. My current 2018 A4 is a breeze to use with the wheel control system...

      I've had an Audi A4 for 14 years and I'm in the process of buying the new A4 35 TFSI. I must admit that at my advanced age a lot of the screen features are a bit daunting. My wife and I do not own a smartphone (we make few calls and use our land line for those) and have limited experience with a tablet.
      I very much appreciated this overview but have to say that for me it could have been slower and a little more detailed. I expect the user manual will contain all the info we'll need,
      but it's so much nicer and easier to have it explained by someone!
      Finally, it's disappointing that new cars no longer supply a CD player. I have a huge collection of CDs that I play on long trips and hope that a portable CD player can be plugged into a usb port and played on the car's speakers (?). Scrolling through lists of songs seems like a lot less convenient way to play songs that are all in one place on the selected CD!

    Thank you for this wonderful video! I’m considering replacing my 2019 Volvo S60 with either an S4 or M340i. I used iDrive 8 in an i4 I tested at an event and liked it. I also used the MMI in an S4 I test drove last year. The S4 can be had at a discount compared to the M340i. Would you say the soon-to-come re-design of the A4 to have the integrated MMI screen like the A6/A8 is worth the wait? How does this outgoing infotainment system compare to the new one? The graphics, etc. all look the same and seems like it’s only a matter of design and screen placement. But if it’s all that much better, then maybe I should wait another half a year or so before pulling the trigger? Again, thank you for the very informative video!

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure the next version of the A4 will have an integrated screen and I imagine it may even come this year but I don’t know for sure. I really like the new infotainment software on BMW and I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I would say both Android Auto and CarPlay benefit from a larger display and right now BMW have that advantage over Audi.

    Good review. Thank you. Once you get things set up, can you fold away the MMI so it doesn't stand upright in front of you all the time and only pull it out when needed? I find the screen out of place and in the way.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. If the MMI folds automatically then you will see it right away when you turn the car on. Some older Audi models did this. The newer models have the screen integrated into the dashboard and not sticking out. Only the mid-cycle models that were not fitted with new interiors have the stuck on look displays.

For example when I use my A5 sport back, it tells me to “to take right in 1mile” but it doesn’t not show how many miles left till I take a right such as 1.5 mile, 1.4 mile, 1.3 mile left. Is there anyway in the setting I can change it to show the 1.5, 1.4 in the navigation??

      You don't want to use it. You can make a wi-fi hotspot but you either have to pay an extortionate amount for it which makes it uneconomical or maybe, you can use your own sim card but the newest cars from Audi don't let you even do that. @@TechInTheCar Thanks, I see. My car is like yours and has the 2 little bars at the bottom of the home screen. I see some have 3 - this must be the cars that have the 3 tile screen. Annoyingly some cars with the same 20 plate as my car have it but mine doesn't. Its something I really miss from my previous BMWs. Do you know if the update will appear over the air or is it a dealer only update?

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Audi do not not do updates on any cars over the air except the newest e-tron models. It might be possible there is an update your dealer can install but I doubt it. Audi wouldn’t spend money updating cars for an extra display of widgets unless there was a problem and that was the solution.

      @@TechInTheCar Ok thanks again. I'm quite happy with the car but the MMI is a big disappointment. Its frankly very poor compared to BMW's latest iDrive. The navigation is poor and the nav's spoken instructions sound like they're being said by a German robot trying to speak English. OTA updates that give extra funtionality are something BMW have implemented in recent years. My previous car (BMW G20) received 3 in the two years I had it.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think that the latest BMWs are better in terms of infotainment and the new iDrive 8 takes it to the next level. Audi don’t offer OTA updates and it’s a shame (at least not feature updates). Audi were the launch partner of Android Automotive with Google and it seems that they will transfer over soon.

    Does anyone know how to reset this 2021 version? The touch feature is not responding to touch. Ty

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The touch isn’t working at all? The first thing to do is turn your car off and leave it for 10/15 mins. If that doesn’t work you will need to take it to Audi. If you have a scroll when you will be able to go into settings and reset it but on the 2021 models and newer it is only touch as you will know.

    I have a 2020 a5. I just had issues with the mmi and the dealer put a new one in, think he said it was from a 2021. But now I can’t get satellite maps. The option is not even there.
    The other day I did a mmi reset, all of a sudden the option was there again in map settings. For satellite. But the maps actually wouldn’t change to satellite. Just stayed on normal maps.
    But then after starting the car again, the option was gone again in settings. What the heck?
    Any idea what the issue could be?

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be that the licence is expired or incorrect as the MMI is new, I would contact Audi digital support. The other is much more simple; the internet is needed to load the satellite view and maybe you just have bad connectivity.

    I've just today taken delivery of a 4k mile A4 Sline. Like it so far if quite a change from 3 previous 3 series. I find it odd I can't see tyre pressures? This is pretty standard now I thought (my earliest 3 series had it in '15) and the manual seems to suggest any car with tyre pressure monitoring should have it displayed? Other than that, I find the voice of the directions lady rather odd, and also the frankly poor method of connecting my phone to the car with the app needing a 10 digit code which I don't have :-(

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't have the TPMS system you won't see the individual pressures. The connection of the app to the car is like that to make sure you are the owner. However that is only to access remote functions!

    • @73henny
      @73henny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TechInTheCarThanks. Is the TPMS system an option? Surely not? It also seems that you need the app connection to remove the annoying warning message each time the car starts?

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn’t standard; although the region you buy in may have different options. You shouldn’t need an app to stop warning messages. It is normal for it to maybe tell you your engine is cold on start like with my RS3; but that warning goes away eventually. If your seeing warnings that don’t go away I would suggest taking the car to Audi to check it as that doesn’t sound right.

    • @73henny
      @73henny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TechInTheCar Thanks. Very odd about the tyre pressures (I'm in the uk). Son's cheap as chips Corsa has it as standard!)
      The warning messages are because I don't have the 10 digit code and always a 'guest' in my own car. Can't seem to get rid of it without the code.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two kinds if tyre pressure displays; one that just stores them and doesn't tell you what they are but alerts you if they go down; and one that actually in live time reports the pressures and temperature. Your Audi will have the basic reporting but the specific live pressures would be an option. As for the code I would ask your dealer but typically the code you want would come with the key I believe.

    It's good to see an explanation of the tech. But Audi/ VAG are making it so drivers have to take their eyes off the road to adjust settings. Not a fan! The BMW system still keeps a wheel and actual buttons, other manufacturers should listen to drivers needs!

      I would recommend connecting your phone and using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay maps as it is faster, more accurate and works better. You just need to plug your smartphone into the car USB and follow the instructions. If you want to use the car navigation then tap the navigation icon and it should have a search button (or a looking glass symbol) that will bring up the option to enter an address. The other way if you can’t find that is to use the voice button and ask the car to navigate to the address. I hope that helps!
