I see why Beyoncé released her whiskey in competitions without being knowing it was from her. Y’all judge it based on celebrity names and not the quality. Luckily she won awards when no one knew the whiskey was from her.
The fact it's Beyonce's doesn't bother me. I've judged it only on the whisky, and I say it's pretty good!
whiskey awards are bought not earned. You have to pay a big entry fee and almost everyone wins a metal. Congratulations!
Considering the Celeb is part of the selling point they would judge that. I bought Conjour, D'usse, Bel Air, 19 crimes to see did it match up to the drinks we would usually buy.
I am a very seasoned whisky drinker and I will be getting one of these after trying a sample.
The balance is spot on and the finish is long with that sherry.
It'll be a perfect into whisky for friends.
Great review! Sounds like an interesting bottle. Cheers, Vin!
Interesting is definitely the word!
I've been drinking Whiskey for 50 years .from wherever and whom I can find .
I just opened the bottle, and
Surprisingly. It has a smooth roll off the tongue taste.
I'd say it's a great sipping whiskey
You all will be impressed.
.
Theres a lot of naysayers out there, but it is objectively good liquid
Good to hear its good Quality. Some celebrity products are just money grabs like Fragrances.
Yeah I mean its still 100% a cash grab lol, but at least its a tasty one haha
I think the bottle is pretty and will make a nice Christmas gift. 😊
I really like the bottle! I'll probably keep it, and I never do that usually
So not a fan of celebrity booze!🍸 Surprised she chose Rye. Gin or scotch might be more popular! Interesting review!!
I'm also surprised she went with a Rye! It would have been so much easier to do a generic bourbon or something
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Agreed! Mind you I am not much of a Bourbon fan and even less so when it's a celeb spirit! Cheers Vin!! 🙂
In America Gin and Scotch isn’t as popular as American whiskey. She choose rye (not straight rye) because that allows you to add sugar, wood flavor and other artificial crap. They use this to cover up the cheap and young MGP whisky. With Bourbon you cannot add sugars and other artificial flavorings
She chose rye whiskey based on her great grandfather being a whiskey moonshiner. Its names after him
Well I'm glad it tasted OK. I can't imagine ever putting out the money for this. Fun, and good for those with all the cash. Happy to enjoy as a gift though. Cheers!
Those in the know will be aware there are better drams out there for less. But then, it's not really a release for the likes of us
I was wondering about the distillery itself
It's more than likely MGP. Have a Google. It's huge
Got a bottle about 2 weeks ago at the recommendation of the store person.
Hope you enjoy it!
thanks for review. makes me feel better I got a bottle, now I just need to pop it open. cheers
Yeah I don't think it's worth saving to be honest. I've seen quite a few on auction already, and selling for much less than RRP
Not good, not smooth, burns my mouth and throat when drinking straight no ice. Trash very disappointed in Bey for this BS! Not worth $20.
JayZ and LVMH own Ace of Spade champagne so I’m not surprised at this move for her.
Great review, it could maybe get beyonce fans drinking it mixed in a bat maybe.
I can certainly imagine it being popular in cocktails for sure. Always good to have a robust rye in some
I do want to try this so I’m tempted
Definitely worth trying! Expensive, but I'll bet you'll see it on many bars soon enough
I been waiting for this review. Thanks for the outside perspective. Between the celebrity status and it being low proof, I’m not expecting good reviews here in the states.
Thing is, people will take an easy road and just trash it. Yeah it's a bit expensive but it's not bad juice
Seems like a lot of bots here. This stuff is GARBAGE lol. Some of yall need to drink real whisky.
There's no denying there are better whisky's out there for the price. But you're thinking about it all wrong. This will bring new people in and some of those will start to try, as you say, "real" whisky.
If a celebrity is endorsing anything as premium, of course the price will probably surpass the quality. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed it at least as i think a lot of celebrities just see a chance to make some $$$ even if what their backing isn't that good at all.
Cheers!
Yeah that's my good takeaway from it. I've not enjoyed so many celeb whiskies so that has to be a win for me
I’m very confused. Celebrities are human beings lol. They have other passions outside of being famous. I think people should be open minded trying everyone’s products since you’re reviewing it. It’s hard to trust someone’s opinion when it’s already biased.
Queen B, I need to try this! 🐝🥃
Cheers Vin, I was wondering when I'd see this review after your live show confession, if your still up for another MGP rye we do have their Remus 6yr Highest rye 54.5% I'm fairly sure it has a 10% malted rye component although the UK site doesn't specify it.
Yeah had to get this review out pretty quickly I thought. I'll definitely check that one out!
Solid review Vin, I do wonder what the "Bey tax" is on this and what the cost of release would be without the name? Either way, I can see it being a great way to get whisky into other markets and seems to have a good chunk of passion behind it. Cheers.
Yeah I'd love to be privvy to that information, as well as how many bottles there are in the world!
Probably $30 whisky with $60 marketing. Keep in mind this isn’t straight rye. So they are free to add sugar, wood flavor and a bunch of other artificial crap to it
@@steveno7058 I'm of the mind that it isn't called Straight due to the finishing period rather than some shady attempt to mask crap, but I don't have any evidence for that
@@NoNonsenseWhisky nope. If that was the case the label would say: straight rye finished in PX casks. That is the naming convention used by 99.9% of finished straight ryes. This isn’t a straight rye because they needed to add flavorings to cover over the harsh 2 year old rye
Fair point. Still, if people buy it and enjoy it, and are happy with the cost, who cares man? Let people be people
I think it's an odd choice to go for (only) a rye whiskey.
If she herself is a huge rye lover, I'd have gone for a set of 2 or 3 with a bourbon, rye and a high proof something instead of just a rye. If she loves all kinds of whisky, a rye is a bit of an odd choice for your first release as most of her fans (who generally don't drink whisky yet) will most likely not enjoy it much while the seasoned rye drinker can get better for less.
An American single malt or bourbon's the logical choice for a first release.
I actually completely agree but in a way it's a good thing that she didn't pick a "sure thing" for the release. In a weird way of thinking, it sort of gives a bit of credibility to release something a little out there
She picked rye (not straight rye) because you can add sugar, wood flavoring and other artificial crap to cover over extremely young rye whisky. With Bourbon you can’t add sugar and other additives even if it isn’t straight Bourbon
I'd wager that she took rye because there's considerably less competition in that market and it has a much less established classic flavor to the point that she can bastardize it with many additional flavors that would cause actual rye drinkers to do a spit take, but which her fans will think is just wonderful.
Appropriately, if traditional ryes are orange juice, this kind of sounds like Sunny D.
@@AJHart-eg1ys as someone who doesn't like rye, but enjoyed this, you could well be right there!
@@AJHart-eg1ys you are correct. Especially since Bourbon won’t allow you to add sugar and other crap even if it isn’t a straight Bourbon. This is basically a rye cocktail in a bottle for $90
Hi Vin! Thanks for your great content and contribution to the community! Love your honesty and breadth of reviews. I do feel this is very pricey - out of interest would you rather have the Sir Davis whijsy!
EDIT - @NoNonsenseWhisky apologies for that, my phone has a few technical issues but now all resolved! My question would have been: at the price, would you take a bottle of SirDavis over a couple of integrity malts e.g. Deanston 12 & Loch Lomond 12, which you can pick up for the same price or less. Thanks again for the great content!
Thank for the kind words!
If you mean the original Sir Davis moonshine? I would definitely love to go back in time and try it! I imagine it would be pretty rough by todays standards though
You sold me when you said it was sweet and taste like cherry Coke. It was a winner now I have to try. 😂😂 today was my first time hearing about it. I was looking at you too, and the girl was talking about how she drove all over her town looking for Beyoncé Drake and I was like I didn’t even know she had a drink and then come to find out it was whiskey. I was like what I’m not a whiskey drinker 🥃 are Beyoncé fan but now I must try. Thanks for sharing my friend.❤❤
If you get it, make sure you come back and let me know what you think!
Unlikely to be one I'll reach for but interesting to hear your thoughts. It may well up being discounted once the hype is over. Nice looking bottle but prefer the Glenturret bottle for my infinity blend at home.
I'll be really interested to see what happens to this when the dust settles. Seems to have sold out everywhere so will likely end up on 2ndary soon enough. Maybe a 2nd wave of stock will hit in the near future
@NoNonsenseWhisky still available at the whisky shop for £79. W club members get free postage too.
I'm typically a cognac drinker. I don't drink a lot of bourbon but the bourbon I do enjoy a lot is bullet just to give you a context for my pallet. I think beyoncé's whiskey is pretty good. I'd give it a 6.8. it's pleasant but I'm not an expert. Just my opinion but definitely not worth $95 is what I paid after tax.
Im cognac lover who also likes Bulliet bourbon . So good to see comment for a cognac consumer. I love the bottle.
Would you agree with the marketing in that this is the future of whisky?!
@@simonsherratt1484 absolutely not. And one of the many reasons I don't read the marketing, only the facts. It's just a decent whiskey, albeit an overpriced one
2 year old $30 MGP rye with added sugar, sweetners, artificial color, wood flavoring and other crap. This is not an American straight rye so all these additives are allowed. Moet Hennessey does this to their low end Cognac
@@steveno7058 do you have any evidence of this? Genuinely asking. Because I would love to delve into that
@@NoNonsenseWhisky the proof is in the naming convention. If there were no additives it would be labeled a straight rye or a straight rye finished in PX casks. I don’t think MGP even sells any Rye that doesn’t meet the requirements of a straight rye
The marketing for it is crazy, I had a well known whisky writer interject into a conversation I was having with someone on FB about the lack of crossover between Beyonce fans and rye drinkers and how likely they are to repeat buy. When I questioned the promotion on his timeline, he went mad. That alone put me off
That's the thing about this one, we sort don't know how it's going to go down amongst her own fan base that are really whisky drinkers. I wager most of them will love it just because it's Beyonce. And I'm there for that
Question , when Paul Newman released salad dressing did we expect only Paul Newman fans to buy his products? The reasoning behind disliking someone’s products because of their celebrities status is behind childish. This is why Beyoncé had to release her product ominously so people like yourselves wouldn’t judge it based on a name. And her drink won mutiple awards when they didn’t know it was from her.
@@jjw1920 you're making assumptions of my opinion of Beyonce. You're also completely making up the fact that nobody knew it was the "Beyonce whisky". It's also difficult to compare a product sold for a couple of pounds to one nearing a hundred
Not a bottle I’ll be getting just a cash grab and it’s way overpriced for what it is. I’m sure she really has zero to do with it seriously. Is it ok sure but it’s a 40-50 bottle yes the bottle is nice but not worth 95+. So a total pass.
Yeah that's totally fair. This ain't gonna turn anyones mind over to it.
yeah the last sentence is enough for me Vin. Glad you liked it mate, it makes me happy when things are not just purely marketing. I'd like to give it a try too. Cheers!
Yeah I think we get bogged down in price sometimes. Would like whisky to be cheaper? Sure! But if people are happy paying whatever they paid, then who am I to judge?
I dont like beyonce so I'll never pay for it or try it 🥱
Then why comment at all
