  • By plane, boat, or automobile the Jackalope Tube makes rods storage easy and low stress. Freshen up your transport system with a great rod tube with some well thought out features. Holds up to 6-7 rods if you Tetris them in there just right.

Joe, I think you have the Simms Bounty Hunter Vault. Have you ever had to gate check it? Do you think this Jackalope rod carrier is likely to be checked? Also, what’s your opinion on the Winston Rod case, similar to this fishpond one?

I do have the vault, and have carried it on (despite it being oversized) many times. It's kind of a PIA to put overhead if the bins are full, but the tubes fit well in the back if you are flying. I store some rods and reels in the vault and its a great "home base" for gear. I still like it but it has proven to be a bit cumbersome. The Winston is a very paired down version of this, for only $20 more you get a MUCH nicer product here in the Fishpond model.

@@redsflyshop Thank you, Joe. Yes, I always sweat it with the Vault, I never know what the overhead bin size is going to be or whether the flight attendants are going to make you check it. It’s nerve wracking!

Bought one these a couple of weeks ago for a trip from Montana to Florida. It says you can fit up 6 rods but I could only fit 3 rods, granted they were a 11wt 10wt and 8wt. I didn’t check it on the flight down but did check it on the flight back up and it help up nicely . Always good to have a solid case that you can trust as the the guys that load luggage are not gentle!

Good feedback, did you try to alternate directions with the rods and max at (3)? Those rods probably have really big stripping guides and grips.

Yes I alternated the way I stacked them. I felt like the size of the guides and cork was the biggest issues. I think I this thing could hold 5 “trout” rods no problem. In reality I only needed 2 of the rods I brought down but overall I’m happy with this rod tube and will use it for travel even if I’m only going 50 miles. It’s convenient.

Hi, can you give me the exact external length of the tube and largerst diameter (probably around the tube with the rope carry handle tight to the tube). I am trying to get one of the sent to me in France and USPS have restrictiction which I think will be pretty close to the size of this. Many thanks in advance.

Ok I just measured it, I got 31.5" x 5.5" on the dot. Not sure what the official specs are, but I personally put a tape on it!

Good idea, I really want a case for my ESN rods. The only one that jumps out at me is the Sage case for rods 4 pc up to 12'6". It's a very spartan tube, redsflyfishing.com/collections/fly-rod-and-reel-cases/products/sage-ballistic-rod-bulk-tubes-for-multiples?variant=15060812267569
