great tutorial. Once I started REALLY digging into rotoscoping and realized that they do it in pieces, not trying to track the whole object at once, it dawned on me thats the method to use for pulling clean mattes.. pulling color from different pieces and using other methods - combining in steps, other than the traditional "key" filters all at once. only thing in this tut that stuck out to me (which wasnt the purpose of this tut, nor your fault) is the green screen is right behind her and using that as a track for the mountains picked up a lot of jitter.. always wondered the best way to deal with that kind of parallax issue, other than just eyeballing a hand key. thanks for the tut!!
Thank you! Happy to help! In case you are also looking to key out shadow or darker colored hair, we made another keying tutorial just for that! :) th-cam.com/video/T8FSeBRx6Rc/w-d-xo.html
I have a daughter with very fine blonde hair that I plan to stick in front of a green screen soon. You may have made my life easier with this technique. Eager to give it a try.
I can’t afford after effects I wish there was a way you could achieve this on an iPhone! One app I have is alight motion which is similar to after effects but doesn’t have key light preset.
I must be missing something because when I place my hair key comp over my main key and set the blend mode to Add, it doesn't remove darker pixels of the hair key comp.
Hello! For black hair, it is actually much simpler, as you only have to worry of two colors in your plate: black (hair) and green (screen). So what you can do is just skip the subtraction method, and turn your hair plate into greyscale color using Tint. Then turn the plate into Multiply instead of Add, so now you will have your hair plate multiplied to your background plate. After that, you want to adjust the brightness of your hair plate using color correction to get rid of the grey-ish background that you receive from the multiply. :) Let us know if this method works for you! Hello! In this tutorial we are using Adobe After Effects, they have a free 7-day trial that you can check out! www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/free-trial-download.html
This technique works best with brighter colored hair. For keying darker colored hair, we have made a separate tutorial that you can check out! th-cam.com/video/T8FSeBRx6Rc/w-d-xo.html Let us know if there are any questions! -Danasa
@@ActionVFXofficial I think its the steps in your video, theyre specifically for blond hair. In my footage the actress has red hair, blackmagic 4k with low contrast to the green screen. It seems impossible to key out her hair. In your footage the contrast is high and green screen is not close to her hair color. In mine, too close. Im at a loss and behind in my project. Any ideas on possible a better third party key plugin?

I must be missing something because when I place my hair key comp over my main key and set the blend mode to Add, it doesn't remove darker pixels of the hair key comp.
I have the same problem!
but what if background is not greenscreen and has normal busy footage BG ??
This doesn't seem to work with black hair! Do I have to use other blending mode or am I doing something wrong?!
