- We bussed to a new town to see what the locals were doing. Angkor Artisans in Siem Reap, Cambodia was such a cool adventure in seeing first hand how the Khmer people use local resources to create beautiful crafts. We witnessed stonecarving, metalsmithing, silk weaving and more. Here is a link to their website of you want to learn more about this program to support local Cambodian artists.

Their carving skills are amazing. Beautiful
Couldn't imagine getting a week into a piece and messing up. Those artists are so patient and talented.
I know the bare basics of weaving but adding threads with tiny colored spots to make a pattern is crazy cool! I'm fascinated with the carvings & the finished products.
It was fascinating to watch all of it. Weaving does look fun, but I'm sure even more difficult than they make it look.
Thanks for learning about Cambodian past
They've had a rough go of it. It's been a learning experience we won't forget.
Seeing the different artists and their crafts was so interesting! Their talents and the details of the arts was amazing and beautiful!
Did you buy anything? Like a rabbit or a puppy 😁
100 bonus points and mad respect for Liz and her Stuart Smalley intro!
Ha!! Take that Charlie!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful
Thank you thank you thank you!
Hello ❤going to watch shortly. Thank you for sharing 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for being so awesome!
Wow so many talented men and woman. It is amazing to see everything made by hand. You don't see this to often anymore. So much better looking than say machine made that have seams, that ruins the beauty in statues and figurines. Thanks for taking us along😊
Thank you ❤❤❤🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Exactly! We would have assumed they were created with molds, but nope. Hours and weeks of labor goes into it. Same with a lot of things over here like food prep.
Thank you!!!
I love your quote at the end. It's so true!
And those temperatures are deadly! My God! I hope you two are being careful! Stay well hydrated and watch your electrolytes! That was a neat tour! I can't believe they make all that stuff by hand! And when you think about it, taking a week to carve that small statue! Can you imagine how much time and effort went into carving all the panels at angkor wat! My goodness! Because there isn't a single area of that temple that isn't carved and it's all by hand! And that temple complex is huge! So beautiful though! I'm so glad that someone discovered it and restored it, before it was lost to the jungle and completely destroyed! It's far too beautiful to lose forever like that. The trees are already winding their way through it and trying to tear it apart! So thank you for risking the dangers of heat stroke, to bring these marvelous treasures of Asia to us! I appreciate you guys so much! ❤
We're so glad we did this before seeing the temples. It really did throw that into perspective. Angkor Wat stands as the coolest place we've ever seen. Hoping we did it justice in video. It's coming up for edit soon. Thank you Lisa! One day we're going to virtually bring you to China.
That was very fascinating watching all the different artisans. They lady on the loom weaving the silk was incredible! She is quite gifted at it. It was cool seeing them carve all the different things. The silk clothing was pretty, and it looked soft. I liked the bowls, too. Thank you for taking us along! That was fun! Enjoy the rest of your week, Charlie n Liz 😊
Thanks Shawn. It had us wishing we were more crafty. Very admirable what those artists can do. Take it easy! You take off for your canoe trip yet?
@@TheAdventureCloset no, I have not yet. I did go up north last weekend to do some rockhounding for moonstone (got 18 pounds) and to do some hiking.
Nice one video visit a awesome gallery
Thank you. There was a lot of talent there.
Thank you for sharing this very impressive video. 26:08/ 26:08
You're welcome. We appreciate you watching it.
I always find it interesting to see skilled people working at their craft. I wonder how long they have to do it to develop their skills. I was particularly interested in the weaving. I worked in the textile industry for almost 20 years. I’ve seen cloth made by machines many times, but doing it manually without making mistakes must be very challenging. By the way, Charlie is correct that most fabric is woven and then the entire piece is bleached and dyed. It’s much more efficient if the end product is going to be something like khaki pants, or a blue bed sheet. Sometimes a pattern will be printed on the fabric after it’s dyed. Yarn dying is only done for really intricate, beautiful, and expensive pieces.
Great video.
Thanks for confirming that. Funny the obscure things people know. We learn more in this comment section than anything.
Beautiful. Love you guys❤😊
Awe! Thank you so much. We love doing this.
Good video brother❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks you very much!
This was amazing. The bus-that ceiling and the tapestries, looked so cool! And then the artisans place tour-I am amazed at the art that was carved! I was hoping you’d ask the cost of a woven silk tapestry out of curiosity. So much work to create something would cost a small fortune in the USA. And those sculptures were amazing! I especially loved the carved elephants-I think some were carved out of wood? I was hoping you’d get a small one as a souvenir, but I guess if you got souvenirs of cool things, you’d have to ship it all by cargo freight! 🤣
I cracked a “geode” yesterday when I was out, and it turned out to be sandstone-funny that I’m seeing this now; I’m wishing I took the sandstone home to try carving!
I love seeing your interactions with people, like when you talked to the man about how long it takes to carve something. It’s so heartwarming to see you and them trying to communicate. Facial cues are everything there, huh?
One last thing, sorry for blathering on, but your intro was so funny! I don’t think you guys realize how sweet and funny you are.
Thanks for another fanTASTIC video! ❤ On to the next! 🎉
Thank you! Been enjoying your rock finds over on Insta. You find some cool stuff. Yeah we want to buy all kinds of things but we'd go broke and not be able to lift our bags anymore. Lol!
Really skilled artisans. Lovely products!
We were so impressed!
Beautiful video, love the slowmotion driving, and creative perspectives, I swear each video gets better and better! Anytime i need inspiration to help me open my mind and start thinking outside the box like you too. I miss you Charlie and Liz! Jess Lily and Jameson all say hello, watching on the big screen. Beautiful and amazing craftsmanship, wow! 8:35 incredible all by hand and who ever crested that is on another level! I definitely have my AC on, lol, sorry! 13:15 that's cool, what patience and time! Reeally makes me want to carve something! Great experience, I appreciate you both so much!
It really made us want to create something with our hands after watching them. They made it look so easy when we know it isn't. Glad you liked the slo-mo. We've learned that is the best way to capture stuff while in a moving vehicle. The quality of the exposure is lower, but worth it for the capture. It also smooths the video. We had some issues with a lot of our video coming out shaky. Turns out it has been that way a few months due to a setting being off. Super annoying, but the slow-mos are good. Hope you play with it. It's fun to inspire each other and see what the other creates with it. Hello back to you guys. We miss you all too. Gotta come see the new digs someday.
@TheAdventureCloset Def, anytime, you are always welcome. Can make a trip to Flow too, 35 min drive from my place.
