Nope. It's already been confirmed that they're done for good. Palmer says it's because of the price to make them, but I'm guessing it also has something to do with the fact that it took like six months just for the first batch to sell out.

It's a luxurious retro gaming system that actually lives up to the hype. Nothing on the market is even close. If you love Gameboy and Gameboy color it's a must have!
Bro lol I saw this video and immediately hopped in my car and went to GameStop to buy the last one there. I've been eyeing this for so long thinking I could get it at Christmas and I was not missing out. 😂
I now have both the Analogue Pocket (AP) and the ModRetro Chromatic (MC). At first, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the screen of the MC. However, after switching back and forth between the two devices and closely examining them, I started to notice why people are so impressed of the screen. The build quality of both devices is impressive, and they both feel great in the hands. The controls, particularly the D-pad and buttons, are exceptional on the MC-by far the best controls I’ve ever used. The MC’s controls are a clear step up compared to the AP, which feels less responsive in comparison. Overall the build quality of the MC is a big step up from the AP. After switching between the two devices, I realized that the AP’s screen looks somewhat artificial and overly sharp, especially when playing Game Boy (GB) games. The classic GB look doesn’t seem quite right on the AP. At first, I didn’t notice this, but after using both devices back and forth, the difference became more obvious. For Game Boy Color (GBC) games, the MC is now my go-to device-hands down, I prefer it 10 out of 10 times. However, for Game Boy (GB) games, the situation is different. I really like the GB-DMG look on the AP and struggle a bit with the GBC interpretation of the GB-DMG look on the MC. In some games, it looks better on the MC, but in most, I miss the classic GB-DMG look. If the MC had an option to toggle a GB-DMG look mode, I would be extremely happy with it. Another feature I wish the MC had is the ability to save games. This is something I would really enjoy, as it would allow me to save progress and pick up where I left off, making the overall experience even better. In conclusion, I plan to keep both devices. The MC is fantastic for GBC games and offers superior controls, but I still prefer the AP for its display and the GB-DMG look for GB games. The addition of a save function and a GB-DMG look mode on the MC would make it the perfect all-around device for me.
Thanks for the detailed answer, that's what's important to me - GB-DMG feeling. But wait, what about switching color modes on MC? I mean u can switch between palettes while starting MC. Check out some tutorial how to swith to GB-DMG palette and pls give responce - how it feeling after that? AP GB-DMG vs MC GB-DMG

There's no way they don't make more. What's the point of a "1st Edition" if there's no standard run following it? So I don't blame people for not knowing.. I do feel the messaging could have been a little clearer... But at the end of the day.. ya snooze ya lose lol
Got to the end of the video and the point you made about it feeling more gameboy ish definitely makes sense. I can see the hardcore gameboy fan being excited about this.
i preferred analogue pocket for gb/gbc regardless. the whole getting the screen perfect thing was never true to begin with, just as bad as advertising "its not emulation!". until its a non-backlit screen that is the same as gbcs... its just not like the original at all. its just another screen taking place of the original that some might prefer
Well, there goes my plan for trading out my Pocket, lol. Ya, I feel that alot of units are just going to be hold and sold, sadly, so I don't see how many games are going to be sold. I can only imagine those games will be hold and sold, too
I got one when they announced the open source part. I am curious if they will open the source so you could build your own, thus enhancing the ecosystem without producing more units. Maybe only selling parts. Also making the original run just a bit more exclusive. I bet Doom will be running on it in no time. 😂
Only if you think you will really play it for more then a few minutes then end up putting it on a shelf forever, I already know pixel isn’t playing any of his consoles except when it’s for a stream or video. No way he would have any time to do so. I have waited so much money on things that just seemed cool that set uselessly on my gaming shelves, including most recently an analogue pocket transparent smoke grey that I haven’t even opened.
I always enjoy hearing about scalpers taking a bath on some item or another, so I enjoyed hearing that one of them sold theirs for $200. Unless it fell off a truck or something, that seller lost money when you take listing fees into account. Womp womp.
I thought they were making more of these... I didn't see anything on the website that said they were limited. Guess I must have missed reading that. **edit** Yepp missed that. It was on the about page. I also misunderstood I just assumed first editions were going to be what was unavailable and that they were making more.
Why spend time and money to sell one batch? Doing a Nintendo and creating fomo, as others have said. Unless the have thousands to sell at triple the price on the "reseller" market
Palmer Luckey was my biggest reason in avoiding this. I also didn't dig any of the colours they had available, they didn't have any colouring that really showed off it's a metal device, and reviews that mention it doesn't feel cold like metal weren't good either. Sure, it SHOULD be more durable, but I'm buying metal for the cosmetic and cold feel, not the durability.
This is a marketing tactic like analogue pocket. Scarcity + demand always right before holiday. If you want a "affordable" fpgbc (FPGA technology) for around 100. It comes in a kit. But Darn close to the analogue. All this is just IMO. ❤
They said it at the start that these were a limited release. Makes sense considering the manufacturing that went into it. If people want an FPGA gameboy color they can make one.
I heard (from Luckey I think) the gameboy clock speed is perfect on this whereas emulation and fpga is not. somethihng like that - before launch. haven't heard much about this aspect in any review and i've seen about 10 from reliable channels, so i don't know. I know i want it - i was going to get the matching headphones, we'll see if there's a 2nd edition i guess.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think people said they had issues running flash carts on these? I kinda wanted one of these I’d mostly be using flash cart. I do have a few games I’d be picking up bc they’re goated but yk the drill. Regardless I love seeing new retro tech and hope to see more in the future ❤
Unless you have a collection of GB/GBC games I dont know why anyone would buy this. Unlike the Analogue Pocket there is no emulation and the screen is exactly the same as the original Gameboy.
Yeah, I was holding off to prioritize Christmas spending, guess they don't want my money. I've already got an Analogue Pocket so I don't really need this.
The problem is Im not sure money was the point... Palmer Luckey said they werent making money selling these... More so just a passion project.. in my eyes if thats true probably to get the hype out there for the brand and continue with other projects to make money in the long run... I mean dude is a billionaire so I guess he can do weird business things others wouldnt think of doing...
@@Madlittlepixel Makes me wonder who is going to drop an FPGA GBA first... Palmer Luckey, Funnyplaying, or perhaps some new talent? It's exciting either way.
@JayrosModShop yeah curious to see what happens. The Analogue Pocket was the first handheld that shipped with GBA fpga support and can use carts, and its cool... But I think we are all talking about something that actually looks more like a GBA and has just that as a focus.
They've never told about limited education. So don't worry, after 1 model sold out, resellers bought every other models, but modretro will produce more

i preferred analogue pocket for gb/gbc regardless. the whole getting the screen perfect thing was never true to begin with, just as bad as advertising "its not emulation!". until its a non-backlit screen that is the same as gbcs... its just not like the original at all. its just another screen taking place of the original that some might prefer
Well, there goes my plan for trading out my Pocket, lol.
Ya, I feel that alot of units are just going to be hold and sold, sadly, so I don't see how many games are going to be sold. I can only imagine those games will be hold and sold, too
The screen to me is the only draw of a device like this. Maybe one day they'll release a cheap plastic version with the same screen and internals.
First edition: they’re going to change the color palette and a few minor changes and call it “second edition”.
Premium product? I already had to return one because of broken pixels...
I have Japanese orange
Got my midnight. I’m good
I got one when they announced the open source part. I am curious if they will open the source so you could build your own, thus enhancing the ecosystem without producing more units. Maybe only selling parts. Also making the original run just a bit more exclusive. I bet Doom will be running on it in no time. 😂
Ya snooze ya loooose I guess
Gamestop still has it in stock. I didn't think the other colors would sell out that fast. I should of bought the Bubblegum when I had the chance
If it actually sold out - then they’ll do another one. Stupid not to.
I always enjoy hearing about scalpers taking a bath on some item or another, so I enjoyed hearing that one of them sold theirs for $200. Unless it fell off a truck or something, that seller lost money when you take listing fees into account. Womp womp.
These all had the 1st edition label, im thinking the next batch will be the same colors but just without that stamp.
Oh whoops I would've bought one if I'd known they were gonna do this. I was waiting for the battery pack to be available. Oh well.
Didn't you buy three? 😅
Cope
Those were just the first editions I've heard
🙌 I start to work on a nimh back cover charger like on have made for the gpi case and the Gameboy. And custom buttons 🥰
scalpers got them and going to up the price
im sitting pretty with my analogue pocket. Dont really need to fall for the manufactured FOMO.
This vs FP GBC?
This is a marketing tactic like analogue pocket. Scarcity + demand always right before holiday. If you want a "affordable"
fpgbc (FPGA technology) for around 100. It comes in a kit. But Darn close to the analogue. All this is just IMO. ❤
I was going to get one after Christmas, oh well I’ve still got originals and two funnyplaying fpgbc, I will survive😂
Same!
They said it at the start that these were a limited release. Makes sense considering the manufacturing that went into it. If people want an FPGA gameboy color they can make one.
i thought the whole point of this project was to have a available product????
Still think they are so ugly but that's okay.
Literally says "1st Edition" on the product and website.
I'm definitely not selling mine. I've been wanting something like this for a long time, and the Analog Pocket is perpetually sold out.
Well, I already bought the leaf now I’m debating if I should buy an extra one from GameStop
I wasn't really interested, but now I regret not getting it... The FOMO is real
Everdrive works. Older ones and newer ones work.
Have you pre-ordered any New ModRetro games released date Qt1 2025
Unless you have a collection of GB/GBC games I dont know why anyone would buy this. Unlike the Analogue Pocket there is no emulation and the screen is exactly the same as the original Gameboy.
Damn, I was gonna treat myself after Christmas, but I guess not now.
For the guy that has 3 analogue pockets...why just why
There's still the Funnyplaying FPGBC. :)
Are you going to regret gifting them now?
It is OVER for the ModRetro Chromatic"???
And they've only. . . just. . . began???
Okay, who’s hungry?
J'en vends une 2000 euros, la orange, si vous voulez.
I'm happy with my ips mod.
I'm glad that I preordered.
They've never told about limited education. So don't worry, after 1 model sold out, resellers bought every other models, but modretro will produce more
