WOW !! Talk about a blast from the past...got this from a car boot sale on cassette must be 20 odd years ago.
No instructions...'didn't know about joining up..picking up ,or anything! But something about it made me need to finish it...Eventually in the days long before the tinterweb...Perseverance won through and me and a mate finished it .
Happy days ! Still my favourite game ever .. Brilliant!
respec!
This is an old favourite of mine. Completed it when I was around ten years old on my amstrad, downloaded it on my mac for free from retrospec and can't even get near. Need more practice I guess. Hats off to this guy, who never even lost a life. They don't make games like this any more!!!
Thank you for this awsome movie!!! This was a nostalgic trip like no other =) I only played it on C64, but I rememeber it took some months of training before finishing this game - Phew!!! =D
just found out this was released on switch.. i know what i'm doign this weekend, finally going to stick it to the emperor!
They need to release spy vs spy. Hours of fun on that game.
I love this game! Was on the point of finishing it (had 4 crowns) when we dropped the disk and it broke! Have just downloaded it about 15 years later and trying to finish it again!
I only ever played the C64 version so it's nice to see the game in colour.
Super beau ! Je ne connaissais pas la version Amiga.
This game brings back memories
I prefer the sounds of the Amstrad version (In Amiga the sound of the doors is missing).
mental i remember all these rooms. this game used to freak me out a bit. have no idea why
Impresionante la música me encanta porque es de algunos juegos conocidos de Commodore Amiga.
It's really funny how many people fail to read the video description
It's a GREAT game, I love the remake by Retro Spec from 2003!
as of roomcount, that might be because Amiga version had to re-enable some speccy limits to keep the gfx high, whereas C64 is apparently more optimized so all those "cut up" rooms could be counted as one room rather than room parts - hence the difference.
Why would the Amiga do that. The resolution on Amiga is exactly the same as the C64. To me it just looks they based this port on the speccy version
30:10 That's Turrican 2 music
Hi Bro, Absolutely. I have mame and a graphics card which outputs pure Scart RGB to an old Sony CRT TV.Plus Tons of the original consoles and computers. Once had an arcade machine but it was far to heavy to get upstairs LOL.Its hard to believe that these games were based on fun and high scores compared to today's pop idol status of Cod and Hype. Me and my bro used to shop in Town on a Saturday drooling over the spectrum games artwork. Manic Miner still drive me potty even today. Thx bro :)
Surely that's the theme to Bubble Bobble?
Jeeezz i remember this back from when i was a child back in the 80's but i had head over heels for the ZX Spectrum 48K but i could never get the gist of the game on what i had to do tho lol! so watching how its done now is pretty cool with me :)
Note the room where there's an enemy running on the spikes and you stun him (and deactivate bomb in platform) before going for a tray of bullets? In Retrospec that room is dark, as is the room with yellow's last savefish before they unite
@tonyuk1977 No I realised what it was in the end - a game called Solstice for the Nes. Glad I finally found it!
@LadySezzy Yeah thanks for the help guys, you're right - that's the one!
but retrospec merges any rooms that are supposed to be one room, such as the 2 volcano bumps or the spring level for the bottom guy. This can complicate things quite a bit.
Music is MUCH improved over the Speccy and C64 versions....but isn't that the _Bubble Bobble_ music at the beginning of the level?
Is this a joke? The Amiga version had no music other than the intro music (0:14). And the sound effects were inexplicably terrible compared with their 8-bit counterparts (I still don't know why they were so bad, since the Amiga had good sound capabilities). Good thing that the rest of the music in this video is random background music which does nothing to do with this game, so the horrible sound effects are only heard in the background.
@Rich7714 Defiantly Solstice I believe. One of my faves. It was for Nes
dem feels ;')
28:20 This screen is different in the Amstrad version (The row of blocks is missing).
8-bit classic, updated for the Amiga.
@Rich7714 Its possibly 'The Immortal' - Megadrive? the genre is 'isometric' or 'isometric puzzle game' or 'isometric puzzler'
What a complex game this was and still is, I really miss the isometric 3D perspective view games.
@Rich7714
Solstice for the nes followed by Equinox on the SNES. Pretty sure that's what your looking for.
@weds9994 Mmm, that wasn't the one I was thinking of. I remember a lot of platforming involved with jumping on blocks & some spikey floor tiles. I think so anyway - it's frustrating trying to think back with such vague memories! The rooms were more square-box-like, like in this game, and it wasn't an RPG. Thanks a lot for the help though! I'll try searching using those terms you suggested!
It has the music from bubble bobble !!!
The only thing that sucked about this (otherwise excellent) game was the lack of a save option. Sure, you had the resurrection fish things, but it was just too long a game to try completing in one session.
@weds9994 No, that's not it. I used to love playing Toejam & Earl 2 though! I found one person's list of isometric games so far but it's not there. I'm sure the one I'm after was definitely a 16-bit, early 90's one. I'll keep searching! Thanks!
This was back when game makers believed a game should be really really hard to complete. I love this game, but there are so many little traps in it that are purely designed to piss you off!
This is a bubble bobble song bruh
If Sony got there act together they could release remixed versions of games from the Spectrum and Commodore days. I would buy them ina flash. Imagine this game with HD waterfalls and crazy stuff in each room and new levels or maybe Wizzball and Uridium. Heck even manic Miner - I miss the days of gaming like this.
So many missed jumps...
Patience = the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.
12:30 o shit
God how much better the by could have made the Amiga/ST version of they had put some effort. This is basically the Amstrad 4 color version with a little extra 1 step shading. If they would have remade the graphics from scratching would have looked amazing.
Almost thinking it should be pretty easy to rip the graphics. Repaint it and load it back.
Same could be made with the music..
Maybe a fun winter evening project.
What's with the rainbow Island music in the background?
wow bubble bobble tunes fun, the amstrad version didnt have any music
There's 2 PC remakes.
Retrospec remake has lighting already finished and has much nicer gfx style than the headoverheels2[.]com (french GPL) version).
Is it the original musics, or have they been mixed? Just wonder about those Turrican and Dune (Cryo) Musics
yeh i used to buy a Spectrum game every week with my pocket money. boy were they hard compared to todays games. didnt help when the control option were poor, i hated that Spectrum joystick, always reverted back to keyboard for more accuracy. QAOP & space for jump. lol
The author used different music. And, the old Batman (along with a werewolf game) had about the same engine. You can find a better-looking isometric Batman on Retrospec
Is there a name for this sort of box room genre of gaming? I'm searching for this other game of the same genre that I used to have on maybe the Megadrive or Snes. If I remember right, you controlled some kind of cartoony ghost person like Vivi from Final Fantasy IX
Looks like the original Batman game for the PC.
And why is the music from Bobble Bubble?
One person wants to play with himself. :o)
Sorry, but I'd have just played Head out fully 'til the meetpoint, then do that for Heels. btw, I never achieved full victory, 2 crowns was my best IIRC, but it was in Retrospec version (the better-looking of the PC remakes, apparently more Amiga-faithful, the other one being more Speccy-faithful)
@Rich7714 Toejam and earl?
wth why is there bubble bobble music?
@Rich7714 You not thinking about Landstalker are you?
What am I looking for here...?
Wow, such a unique game. I read about it in retro gamer (issue 34) and had to take a look. You can find the magazine scan here if you want to read about the making of it: emuparadise.me/magazine-comic-guide-scans/RetroGamer.Issue.34/1520

Kkkkkkk eu
Eu tbm
I had this game on one of my old apple laptops (IBook clamshell 10.3.9) but my game was different, it had more better graphics than this one
I think it's about time this version was deleted and a proper longplay added to the channel which fits in with the standards you have today. The added music in the background is utterly atrocious, as is the added intro screen with screaming guitar music. It's actually really cringe :/
just buy a PC. emulators is the key word
Bubble bobble soundtrack does not belong here. Terrible.
Sucky music dubbed over ruins the video
