    Nice to see a full play through of this after all these years. I used to have it on the C64 but could never complete it and would get lost on the map. Definitely one of the best alltime titles of the 80s and one of my personal favourites. Just four people and 48kb in total.

      i remember this from about 30 years ago when i was a kid wth a c64 the newer slim model :D never could complete it, the same as that Knightmare game which i couldnt complete either but still was a very good game

    these games had me and the family actually using our heads.
    alot of today's games pose no real mental challenge.

    I remember finishing it, I remember even individual rooms. The puzzles were so clever and smart, the whole game is very ingenious. I loved the different worlds and how it challenged you to think.

    one of the very first slick and well designed puzzle adventures, with no bugs and entirely possible to complete without inhuman skill, and it was a very cute game too.

    "I was dragged down to the Ocean dungeon to take a look at Head over Heels so I could get a good look at the characters in order to be able to create the cover art. It was a lot of fun to work on, even though I didn't have a clue what the game was about.
    The sheer weirdness of the characters made the
    job an absolute pleasure! The squares in the background were removed for the initial release but were left intact for the Hit Squad version. Creator Jon Ritman bought the original art from me a few years later."

    Nice game that I found quite hard to complete back in the day. This C64 version is clearly one of the ZX Spectrum ports.

      Indeed. It's a shame they didn't make use of the more colorful palette of the C64. Even the Amstrad port looks better.

    I think I was maybe 10 or so when I got to play this game...had a 2nd hand c64 with a HUGE amount of tapes full of copied games...
    Great times discovering whats on these tapes....

    This is the type of game that nobody would persevere with today. But back in 1987, games were scarcer, so you would be stuck with stuff like that.

    they could not have - they used the singlepixel to acheive high detail which came at the cost of colour which could only be done with doublepixels.

    that puzzle at 1:05:00 is a tough one. So did this playthrough show every room in the game? Looks like it did. Good play.

    whynottalklikeapirat It's kind of ironic then how C64 users would sometimes mock Spectrum games because of their "monochrome" graphics.

    • @MephProduction
      @MephProduction 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep this is identical to the spectrum, It was the Amstrad which added colour to each room... maybe the superior version of the game,

    sure its pretty but really - actually completing this looks like an insiders joke - and that made the game not fun

    • @Nemspy
      @Nemspy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Thomas Smart My mates and I completed it. Took a while, but we got there. The thing that stood in our way was the knowledge that you could pick something up as you were in the process of jumping. Once we worked that out it became much easier.

    Did anyone ever hack it so that damn ditty doesnt play whenever you change rooms? Goddam annoying

    • @gwishart
      @gwishart ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to hack it. You can turn it off on the main menu, using the "Adjust the Sound" option.
