The PS2 startup was always creepy and mysterious to me as a kid, especially when I was in my room alone in the dark hearing the eerie sounds fill the room. And the 1st Xbox startup for me as a kid as well was the coolest out of all my consoles I had.
You can kind of pick up on themes of each generation. Early systems were sort of like playfully showing off, showing the senses of humor of the programmer as much as the artists. Around the 90s, we start seeing the "Welcome to the next big thing" posturing. At the turn of the millennium, we see a split; ones who rebelliously cling to a certain image, and ones who resign themselves to how much more businesslike video games are becoming. Mid 2000s sees the last bits of energy popping out in abstract ways, before everything becomes so sterile and corporate. It's not about making something exciting anymore, it's about making a product.
2:03 and this one only came out in europe and canada in 1993 but the release to the US in 1994 got canceled this was also a flop but thats a story of an angry nerd

He also only showed the PS4 mantanence screen. It's the screen that appears when you first buy the console. That's technically not the start up screen.
11:07 PS1 is the only console startup that never fails to bring me goosebumps everytime I hear it. The PS1 startup is not only the definition of epic, its epic itself.
Sadly I never grew up with it. PS2 was me. So I still got the classics and a cool boot up but gosh the sound. There is something about boot up sounds back then like Windows 95 and the PS1 and 2 that I love.

This is gonna sound so basic lol, but the PS4 intro puts such a big smile on my face every time I hear it. It’s just been such a mainstay for such a big chunk of my life, I can’t help but feel like I’m being welcomed home when I hear that intro.
Especially SEGA. Sony almost killed them, because in E3 1995, they announced that the PS1 will be cheaper than the Saturn, resulting in a economic disaster for SEGA, which led to the failure of the Dreamcast, which was killed by the PS2 announcement. SEGA was literally two steps away from bankruptcy back then.
Some facts about each console. PlayStation Pocket: It only released in Japan, and had a very short lifespan of 3 years. This console was extremely tiny, it literally only weighed one ounce. Vectrex: This console was very unique, because you couldn’t plug it into a TV, they just give you a CRT monitor with it. It also used vector graphics. The console, like many of the other consoles in this video, did poorly, because it was made one year before the entire video game market crashed in 1983. Magnavox Odyssey 2: This was the sequel to the first ever video game console ever made, the Magnavox Odyssey. One unique thing about this console is that it had a keyboard on the console, even though it wasn’t a computer. This keyboard could have been used as a secondary way to control the games. Sega Master System: One of Sega’s first consoles, and isn’t really talked about that much. It was a remodeled version of Sega’s Mark III, and it sold more than 10 million units. The console was a lot more popular in Europe and Brazil. Satellaview: This is a unique one. The Satellaview was an add-on for the Super Famicon, known as the SNES in every other territory in the world. It only released in Japan, and it was one of the first entirely digital consoles ever made. You couldn’t get any physical games for it, you had to download these games from satellite broadcast. Neo Geo CD: This was a more cheap version of the Neo Geo console that used CDs instead of cartridges. There isn’t really anything that’s interesting about this console. Neo Geo: This console was made to play SNK’s arcade games at home. This console was really expensive, costing around 650 dollars in the US. The cartridges were also gigantic, being 19 centimeters by 13.6 centimeters (which is 7 inches by 5 inches), and these cartridges were extremely expensive, costing around 300 dollars. Atari 5200: The sequel to the Atari 2600, this console is very well known for not being good. Atari 7800: The console that Atari made after the video game crash of 1983, and this console wasn’t really noteworthy at all. It’s basically just a 2600 with better graphics. Super A’can: This console existed. It released in Taiwan and didn’t do well because it only had 13 games and it costed too much (2900 Taiwanese dollars, which at the time would have equaled 160 US dollars) Amiga CD32: This console only released in Europe and it sold only 100,000 sales. This was one of the most unsuccessful consoles of all time, and caused its developers, Commodore, to go out of business. Atari Jaguar: This was “the first 64 bit home console” (those quotes are necessary, because most SNES/Genesis games look better than the games on the Jaguar), and this console also was a failure. It only sold 250,000 units, and the console had a whole bunch of technical issues.
Tomy Pyuta (seen at 2:26): It was a computer released in 1982 that was marketed towards children (and in the USA, it had an educational theme despite the fact that every game for it (with one exception) was an arcade-style game). Don't expect SNES-like graphics because it says 16-bit; it's only slightly more powerful than a Texas Instruments 99/4A computer. About 140,000 were sold throughout the USA and Japan (including it's two revisions)

I never owned an Xbox but I remember going to my babysitter’s house and some guy had brought his and left it there for us. I never really played but I would watch everyone else play things like GTA or Red Dead Redemption or something like that. Those were the days.
The late 90s to mid 2000s was the real sweetspot for console startups. The PS1, PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Xbox 360 startups are the most iconic console startups period.
Man, the startups use to be so cool, welcoming and relaxing like you were being greeted by a good friend when you got home. Now it is so cold and nonexistent it sometimes gets annoying how long takes for everything to boot up. Ps1's is so relaxing if they would've kept it basically the same with minor changes they could've made it seem like the console was aging with you. The Xbox's had mostly an amping you up effect and the 360 is a balance of both.
Ps1 intro is goated. The music is so sick and how the animations and text combine with the instrumental, the fade out/fade in. Straight up 🐐. Best intro off all time
Almost all of the 80's - mid 90's consoles were virtually screaming "We're in 3D guys, WE'RE IN 3D!!"

Glasses&Mouthplates you sure 80s? Cuz I’m pretty sure my NES can’t play 3D games
It's like looking at a series of rejected Windows screensavers.

These startups are mostly a demo of the hardware. If it can't even run that, there's something wrong.
they botched the ps2 bootup
BIOS?
They basically act as the POST (power on self test) screen so you know the video and audio is working.
Well most startups require a disc or cartridge for the adequate startup. If you didn’t have one these are what you got.....
Case in point: The Game.com
Designing these bootup screens and jingles must be hard. It's literally the sound and video people are gonna see every single time they play, better make it special.
It’s not like they put any effort into them now

You can kind of pick up on themes of each generation. Early systems were sort of like playfully showing off, showing the senses of humor of the programmer as much as the artists. Around the 90s, we start seeing the "Welcome to the next big thing" posturing. At the turn of the millennium, we see a split; ones who rebelliously cling to a certain image, and ones who resign themselves to how much more businesslike video games are becoming. Mid 2000s sees the last bits of energy popping out in abstract ways, before everything becomes so sterile and corporate. It's not about making something exciting anymore, it's about making a product.

Console companies when the ps2 came out: We're in the endgame now.
Especially SEGA. Sony almost killed them, because in E3 1995, they announced that the PS1 will be cheaper than the Saturn, resulting in a economic disaster for SEGA, which led to the failure of the Dreamcast, which was killed by the PS2 announcement.
It released in Taiwan and didn’t do well because it only had 13 games and it costed too much (2900 Taiwanese dollars, which at the time would have equaled 160 US dollars)
Amiga CD32: This console only released in Europe and it sold only 100,000 sales.
Old technology is always a treat to learn about. Though, with a creepy tone as well.
Please continue fam

@@damasterofskitsees or for some Forza Horizon
The Sega startup noise and other 80s consoles makes me so happy for some reason I was born in 2001 so not sure why
Same Case
Got me hyped was born on 1998 when games were still great
Nostalgia about things you haven't used and were created long before you were born? That's ok. I have the same thing.
The fearful harmony is less terrifying than the basic ps1 startup
The late 90s to mid 2000s was the real sweetspot for console startups. The PS1, PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Xbox 360 startups are the most iconic console startups period.
Hell yeah. Couldn't agree more.

The noob files dubstyle cus too much editing and effects are happening at the same time
Man, the startups use to be so cool, welcoming and relaxing like you were being greeted by a good friend when you got home.

Playstation 1 startup makes my head explode with nostalgia.
Some of these consoles I didn’t know existed but I’m gonna look up each one.
Ps1 intro is goated. The music is so sick and how the animations and text combine with the instrumental, the fade out/fade in. Straight up 🐐. Best intro off all time
