my rims like yours....used a soft brass wire wheel (got all the hidden corners and creases)...rust came off easy....then used brown cutting compound and polished with white compound.....perfect used this same process on all the aluminum engine covers....again perfect
very good video........ Let the WD40 sit for a day or two, it'll make much easier work of removing rust. (first thing I do with a new bike is saturate all the chrome, aluminum and painted surfaces with WD40 and let it sit for at least 2 days). I only use 0000 steel wool on chrome and aluminum..... I use a cotton towel on painted surfaces. After sitting a day or more in WD40, the heavily pitted areas can be cleaned up quickly by carefully, very carefully, using a razor blade. After that the sky is the limit with metal and chrome polishes. Thanks for posting.
Dude- Your videos are so good. have a 69 CL350 and will definitely use these as reference. Question- Why no soke the rims in Evapo rust would that work?
Thanks! They aren’t perfect but they are pretty good. Surprisingly the rear rim was way cleaner than the front. It really didn’t take too long either to knock off 40+ years of crud. WD does a great job. That brass brush really helped too.
Really good video. I don't know if anyone else has asked, but would a product called "Brasso" be equivalent to Colonel Brassy? Thanks, I am going to try to freshen my BSA wheels using your methods.
I might still try to clean up the original spokes with some Evaporust or vinegar. Might clean up. I dunno. I just went with new spokes. That was an adventure. The WD and steel wool did great on those rims. Could have done the same in the fender I suppose but I enjoy trying different methods. :)
That really sucks, Greg. I’m sorry! I tried to use official store links to avoid any issues. Looks like it may be hit and miss with the products from Amazon fulfillment. I’d seek a refund/replacement. Vertexind.com is the manufacturer. There are contact options there. Good luck. Really bummed the product is not to standards.
@@KeepOnWrenching I really shook it today. Even tapped it on the bottle base. It has helped. The liquid has a little grit to it. I'm going to keep this up. Also had some help with Hand Cleaner with Pumice in it. It helped with the rusted rims.
Yeah. It’s just for cleaning here. Definitely not the best for long term protection. Works great on removing rust but metal needs to be cleaned and protected afterwards.

The process can definitely be expedited with electric assist. I went old school on these.
Boy I’m glad I found this. I have four motorcycle wheels that I thought would have to be replaced. Maybe there’s hope yet!
It’s worth a shot. Might not be perfect, but respectable.
Just did the wheels on my project this way today, worked great!
Awesome to hear, man! WD is some magic stuff! Hope you’re doing well, Nick.
Damn amazing how good these rims look as to when you began.
It’s pretty amazing! I bet a lot of rims get thrown away because people there is no hope. Thanks, Steve!
This is the greatest a best wheel cleaning video in the world...... tribute
It’ll get the job done. Thanks!!!
Love your crispy clear explanation. I'm working on my first project and this helped alot.
That’s great to hear! I hope your project is going smoothly.

Definitely. Great points. 0000 and WD can go a long way!!
Great job! Appreciate you. I'm going to have my wheels sand blasted. I'll be painting my wheels.
Good luck! I hope they turn out well.

It takes a ton of Evaporust to do that.
Rims look good, way to go!

Brian, you are amazing. Thank you for all your clips :)
Top job man,real nice result👍
It can be done!
He sounds just like Jack Black, I was waiting for him to break into some Tenacious D songs
People keep saying that. Lol
plot twist. He is JB , this is his underground channel.
Busted
@@KeepOnWrenching My favorite is your sentimental ballad Fk Her Gently.

Different product entirely but I’m familiar with it for sure. Worth a shot as long as it is safe for chrome.
Another great video man I was curious were you going to try and use the same process on the spokes because they looked really roached

Let the WD do its thang... love the accent 😁👍
Ha ha. Thanks.
Thanks for the tutorial
No problem! I hope it was helpful. Good luck.
Best results are obtained with Royal Purple penetrating/anti corrosion oil spray.
Will look into it!
Brian My Colonel is watery out of the bottle. Yours looks like its creamy. Did I buy the wrong product?
It shouldn’t be watery at all but it can settle out if it has been sitting for a long time.Try shaking vigorously.
@@KeepOnWrenching Been doing that. Thinking sitting on the shelf at Amazon awhile. But thanks

Were you able to contact them? I’m really bumming that it wasn’t as advertised.

fish oil is cheaper. whish is the main ingredient in wd40
Yeah...I prefer the smell of WD. Ever take a fish oil pill and burp? Lol
How does the wire wheel not scratch the fuck out of the chrome?
Only used the wire wheel on the inside edges no visible
Yeah, fish oil is good for lots of things....
WD-40 does not contain fish oil, contrary to a popular myth, nor does it contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
@@KeepOnWrenching Uh huh. That's what they say.
The internet doesn’t lie! Right? Lol. Just messing!
@@KeepOnWrenching yeah, I suppose.
