I would IGNORE my moms comments about not leaving, and get those friends, who are close enough to CHECK ON HER, to GO GET HER OUT of there BEFORE the storm hits! at 79, shes pretty helpless. DONT just go along with what she says, i will b fine, etc. TAKE ACTION.....
Hopefully the loss of his Mother will serve as a strong reminder to heed any evacuation warnings that are issued. So very sorry for her family and loved ones.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother may her soul rest in peace. Seniors are a stubborn breed. I also live not far from the beach and am a senior. I was told by my adult children that I should evacuate my mobile home. My son who is local and more inland as well as friends offered refuge from the storm. I too chose to stay as not to burden others. I was surprised by the power of this storm. I see a possible copycat storm that may take a more direct path to West central Fl. closer to the Tampabay area. I will probably evacuate this time as it's just not worth the risk. Although I love living in paradise I too think its best to move to a safer region in the country.
There are people saying in the comments they would never live in coastal Florida. If you choose a nonevacuation zone to live in, you can be at the beach in 10 minutes, and still be safe.

So sorry for your loss prayers to you and your family honestly i would never live near the ocean i think Zephyrhills is actually to close im ready to get out of Florida all together after 8 years living here its time to go Ive seen my fare share of bad weather and destruction and its not worth staying yes Florida is pretty and the beaches are beautiful but its better to visit and vacation but not live here yes people are going to rebuild and move on untill it happens again how many times does it take for folks to lose everything untill they see its time to move to a safer area praying for everyone that lost everything and those that lost their lifes .
Pulte, Lennar, GT Homes, MI homes or one of those other Republican donor land companies will swallow land for pennies on the dollar, knock everything down and build more concrete jungles. WATCH!! And then the flooding will only get worse.....WATCH!!!

As a mid-western it's hard to understand why people want to live on the coast of Florida. Although Florida is the poster child for climate change in the US, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation this past May that erases most references to climate change from state law. So their thinking is, if you don't talk about climate change it will go away. Florida is a state of denial and a very strange place.

We MUST elect someone next month who - unlike Trump - actually believes in climate change, or we will see more and more of these terrible events coming closer and closer together. Harris/Walz are willing to tackle this issue and have plans set to go to do so. Voting blue up and down the ticket will give them the backing needed to get 'er done. My prayers are with everyone suffering now because of the storm(s) this week across America.
