Rob, the way you deliver your message and story telling is amazing. I can understand why you are a teacher. Leslie, the passion you show for saving the stables and the ideas to develop them is wonderful.
Merry Christmas from Moose Jaw. I have enjoyed Electrolux throughout my years. I enjoy hearing from you daily, and weekly throughout the year. Loved your family when I lived at ‘Port as a young wife. Thank you for sharing your life and experiences.
I so love your videos. I’m an elderly woman and most likely will never get to go to France or see a chateau. But I get to go with you in every video. Thank you so much. ❤
A tip for the vacuum, I use a batter powered blower (you can use any blower) to blow out all the filters. It works very well on the Vacuum too. You defiantly need to be way outside to do it as the dust cloud will be massive. It is good that being frugal is not a trait that your supporters share in common with you Rob 😁. Sometimes in life you need to just spend $ and enjoy doing it😁.
My husband and I fought through our fear about possible move to France, and we made our plane reservations last night for March scouting trip to the south of france. Wish us luck.
We moved from the US to the Dordogne three years ago and we are very happy. We find the weather generally quite good although last year had more rain than anybody in the region can remember. Bonne chance!
Rob, love your beautiful Chateau even with all of its problems. My Daddy could always figure out how to fix things with just a little tape or glue. He would always say when something broke, " oh it's just a little something that can be fixed. " You don't have to have everything new and free of scratches or little dents that need to be repaired to have a wonderful home. We have lived in our home almost fifty years, it's not perfect but it's ours, we have lots of wonderful memories here, its where we raised our children and now our grandchildren & great grands come and go so it's perfect for us. Best wishes, Kathy USA
Loved your lesson today. When I was very stressed over a problem I would say I was frozen, paralyzed. Eventually I would start working at something and yes I would feel better or at least be doing something constructive. As a nurse I recognized this applies to patients who are depressed or overwhelmed. I would say just get up, have a shower or brush your teeth. Start moving ahead. Sometimes this helped . Also I laughed when you fixed vacuum with that wire. I’m from Saskatchewan and we call that a farmer fix. We lived on a farm. My son was and is very strong. He would fix something really well. Unfortunately it would be made (what we came to call) ‘Keller tight’ which meant that he could undo it but no one else could. We use this phrase still when we encounter something we can’t open. I love your engineering mind.
Analysis paralysis. Great term, not sure who coined it. My 11 yr old nephew will love the vacuum lessons, he's obsessed with all things vacuum. He's our future engineer.
Good job Rob. I confess I imagined the advent series would have been different. Btw, I think the filters are washable actually which is great because they are reusable. Save on filters and even repair time.
Having the roof fixed must give you a great sense of peace. I find that the hardest part of anything is starting!!! Once I get going all is good but that initial push sometimes takes a little talk.
Loved your life lessons using the vacuum cleaner analogy. The concept of recreate the problem, diagose and fix is natural to me (retired IT person) but seems absolutely foreign to so many young people. Your students are so lucky to have teachers who teach them real-world lessons in simple ways they can understand. Good for you!
I know you're cold and trying not to use heat. I do the same. My saving grace is I have a working fireplace. Do you have a working fireplace? If you do, I recommend finding a stove you can put in it (90% efficiency vs 40%) You do bonfires with the students and have a forest so a source of wood (free heat) is not an issue. I realize this isn't practical for the entire chateau, but one or two key rooms would be great for you
Rob, you *must* absolutely have Dutch blood in your veins -- frugal (that's a biggie), mr. fix-it (related to being frugal), persistent (some would call this stubborn), and learning life lessons at the end of a vacuum hose. Yup some ancestor in your family tree was Dutch. Or Scottish, they are very similar. 🤣
It’s always good to fix it yourself if you can. I prefer to save the money for other things besides paying someone to fix it for me. I just had a refrigerator go bad or so I thought. Right after paying someone to fix my car. 🤦♀️(I know my limits!) I remembered something from school after the initial panic, of course. KISS- keep it stupid simple. I tried a different outlet with a heavy duty single extension cord, and 💡 the outlet had just gone bad. One of the few that hadn’t been swapped out yet. A friend helped me change it out and it’s all good! Thankfully because my only other option was a mini fridge my daughter left here from college 😂
Sometimes, life sucks. Please wear a mask when cleaning dust off the vacuum cleaner filters. You don't want to inhale that dust. Speaking from experience. Enjoy your vlogs.
The front lawn is well manicured and beautiful
Im so ecstatic to see the growth in the hedge!!!

Tastey, tastey, tastey! I love it!! That snack looked so delicious! Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your wonderful adventure!!💕
We used candles for warmth, too, when we lived in Germany . Had to open a window a few times for air 😮. Great color inspiration Ĺeslie.
I personally love you being frugal, Rob...🐱

Much love and a very Merry Christmas from Georgia, USA.
Agreed, you will always be more successful if you learn/teach yourself to think outside of the box.
the chateau is so beautiful - from each angle ❤👍
Your DIY always work & that's the great thing about it.
The filters are the first thing to check with low suction the same as clothes dryers
Enjoyed from Texas 🎄❤️
Watch the Petherick deck repair that Michael repaired the joints to prevent basement kitchen leaks

Postcard picture at the end with the snow. Beautiful

Another Great Advent Day Video, on Vacuum makes me LOL LOL Cheers from Calgary, Canada

Fight or flight response 🎉

Or German. We are stubborn and self sufficient as well
@@lt1jane Probably a lot more nationalities can claim those traits, I'm only familiar with Dutch. Glad to hear we are not to only ones!!
I am left-handed as well. We are in our Right mind. I think we do see some things differently..
Leslie needs an electric bike with wide tires and a basket
Do you like Rob's vacuum cleaner repair stories and gladiator movies?

next time try a snake that plumbers use...might save cutting it😉

stasis - a period or state of inactivity or equilibrium or as the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey would say " A state of chassis!!!
lol, I just unplugged 2 vacuums in the last day.
I washed my hose.. it worked
lol, "look at all the dirt, eh" soooooooooo canadian
The word might be "immobilized"
Young adults dont know or have time to make vacumn cleaner work...
