I was just laying on the couch on Amazon ladders and came over to YT to search so glad i came across your video this is a lot cheaper and safer for a single lady! Thanks! 😊
Pipe! I have a Greenworks 80V blower that I love. I also bought a kit for an older,plug-in leafblower that doesn't fit my Greenworks, but I just use Gorilla tape to attach it to the Greenworks tubing. Almost all my gutters are around 10' up,so cleaning them is pretty fast. I am a senior, and used to get on a short ladder for the job, using my blower, but that cleared about 15' at a time, then I had to move the ladder. If the leaves were wet,I could blow out about 8-10 feet at a time.
I have Pineneedles stuck on the top of my roof actually they’re all over my roof… my husband is disabled so I have to get up there to get them off… I’m terrified of heights . Do you think I could make this pipe longer to where I can stand on the ladder but not have to actually get on the roof? Thank you in advance for any advice you have.
Pipe.........Why not use a "reducer fitting" first of PVC to go over the blower end. Then you would be able to use a smaller diameter of longer pipe, instead of the wider diameter. It would be both lighter and have a more forceful air flow volume. You also might be able to then employ a far longer PVC pipe to be able to even reach those higher gutters on your house. Nice job and work. Cheers!
Great Vid, I especially like your taped gloved hand, I don't feel so bad about my same remedy, oh...you can use another piece pf gutter pipe to lessen the weight
Pipe. Thank you so much. I really need this. I know I’m not gonna have enough strength to hold it. Can you try to invent because you’re so good at this some kind of just Y-shaped bracket on a pole like people sit on at the polo races that little chair that’s just one stick in the ground and you balance it And I’m gonna try to come up with it too thank you so much for this video. This is going to save me so much effort!
Yep, but that requires going inside, taking off my boots, going upstairs, contorting my arm to get the right angle only to find out the window doesn't open far enough just to go back down stairs, put on my boots and do it this way. Haha
PIPE, Hey, good idea. I was thinking of stepping down a pipe to a smaller diameter for lighter weight and more air pressure. Looks like you have plenty of air pressure however. I need to reach about 17-18 feet to gutter guards. I just went from Ryobi cordless to DeWalt and will look into their blower. Thanks. And thanks for your thoughts if you get time to comment.
I am in the design phase to build one for my gutters where some are 21' up on the 2nd floor of a 3 story home with very steep roof. I considered using a shop vac, but I have a lot of pine/tamarack needles since I live in North idaho, so given they tend to clump up, thought there may be a lot of clogs with little suction of a shop vac doing a less than stellar job. Also considered my air compressor as I already have an aluminum extension pole to hang christmas lights over 30' on my roof, but a 75 yard walk to the shop, or putting in the UTV is a lot of work, and has the power issue like with the shop vac you have to keep moving as well. So, the answer I believe is attaching to my gas blower, which does have a lot of pressure, but for weight, and some added pressure, I think I will reduce it rather quickly to 2" schedule 30. I will play with it because it still needs to be rigid, but weight is also an issue. I think this will be the ticket and should be done this week, so will post the results. I do like the 45 degree elbow vs the 90 for both allowing less air resistance but also dry fitting for adjusting on the fly. My only concern is if it accidentally pops off and gets lodged in the gutter, so maybe a quick safety string screwed on from the end of the main tube to the top elbow will do the trick. I am not going to risk my life to recover it, LOL. Either way, it seems the blower is the best option, and still can be used on the roof areas to get needles out of corners, but also clean up the debris you just blew out.
I'm putting one together with square 2x2" vinyl gutter downspout... That matches my blower hose diameter the closest and is VERY light weight.... Aluminum downspout is also light weight but the smallest I can find is 3x2" or 3" round shape which is much bigger than my 2" radius blower connection.... Anyways: I did find those 2 materials are very lightweight options... available in 10ft lenghts
Hose clamp a handle on it would probably help control the attachment. Nice video, In the process myself. I think I'm going to knock it down to 1" 1/2 black ABS
Hello sir, love the channel. I am located in MN as well and would love chat with you about your SLC build not sure the best way to connect but I am planning on building one and would love some advice. Thank you -Chris
Pipe is not the most glamorous subject to make a video about. But Eric is the only dude who looks good doing it! Regards to the family!! #BeardAndMoustacheOnPoint
Even better, I have an extension like that for my pressure washer. Do the math and visualize how well THAT works with a gutter full of tree poo. My wife found it endlessly amusing however. ;-)
Pipe. “Well that’s it for me at gearhead daily” checks last upload date: 5 months ago. Can we get a pool session scheduled? I have some things floating around my brain I’ve been meaning to ask you about.
People have been blowing their leaves out of the gutter for years now including myself. The problem is that this pipe is way too heavy to reach the second floor gutters.
That's an awesome DIY project. I'm wondering are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts and chains for chainsaws and maybe we would work together to help more DIYers in the community. I shot an e.mai.l to you.
Big flaw with this system, and many like it, is that blower is at the bottom. Its does not have the head to blow higher than a few feet before you loose power. This one works OK because you have a very short run of pipe - maybe only double what the blower came with. The solution is usually to get a more powerful blower. if you read reviews of systems like yours - they all suck. You need to move the system up to the top. I have a cordless blower 230 CFM that's about 7lbs with battery. I've made a similar rig to yours on the top of the blower with some drain (very light) PVC and flexible rubber boot. Key difference is that this gets attached on top of my snow rake pole (snow rake removed). Now the blower, and a very short adapter, are all up top near the gutter. If you reduce your pipe size a little and also make a deeper bend, you can hang the rig right on the gutter as a guide while you go along. Its not hard to lift or control at all and you get much more power and can go way higher. Mine can reach about 18' up. Also, heat up the exit end of the pipe with a torch and use pliers to squish it a little, this will improve velocity and spread. You're losing a lot with a big circular hole. Here is mine: th-cam.com/users/shortsa9NzCvxP6vo?si=Hef308M7KbUZyqMu
Thankfully I don't need anything that complicated! HA!! I do have a few spots that are pretty high though. The short run is even enough for the thing to be unwieldy at full arm stretch

Work smarter. And safer. And faster. I'll be giving this a shot for sure. Thanks!
Thanks! No ladders = safer
Thanks Eric. I don’t have leaves but I do have pine needles. Will try this later today.
Good luck! this doesn't get all of them, but a good majority

I think that's doable, I'd get thinner wall pipe as this can be a bit heavy after 30-40 mins

Bigger pipe = More volume. That's why all my dust collector pipes are as big as possible.
@@GearheadDailyWith smaller pipe you get more velocity and force and that is why most blower attachments reduce the size at the end for this. 🎉

Fantastic but you can also blow from some of your upstairs windows too!! Smarter/Harder. Love the invention thank you.

That's a good call, a handle would make this better.
Eric How do you like the gutter guards you installed? I am looking for comments on how good are they .
They are decent, not great for pine needles, but what is? Definitely better than what was on their before.
What schedule pvc did you use?
Don't quote me, but i think 30?
Thanks...i did see where one guy reduced it down to a 2" pipe, which would make it a bit lighter@@GearheadDaily
Not a bad idea@@jimherchenbach9902
What angles are the three pieces at the end?
probably just 45's
Well what good is the leaf guard then?
It keeps out leaves.... but not needles, otherwise it would be a 'needle guard' HAHA
The pipe needs to be the same diameter as the leaf blower nozzle end. That seems it would be a narrower pipe and therefore a lot lighter?

So do you still keep the leaf guard screen in place? I am tempted to get rid of mine, because like you said, it doesn’t keep out the pine straw!Grrrr

Have you thought of using 2 inch pipe with a 4 inch to a 2 inch reducer? Has anyone tried it?
You get less cfm that way. That's why dust collectors want bigger pipes
