2018 Shelby GT 350 at Daytona International Speedway

- So best laps this year were 2:04 and best last year was a 2:03, the added white strips at the "bus stop" really upset the car and suspect that is the reason for the slower lap times this year. You will see the McLaren and the GT500 really pull away on the banks and straights, but always seem to keep them in sight.
Good. My Shelby's hood is not the only one that shakes at 120+. That was scaring the hell out of me. Guess it's normal.
Nope, so they all do it....at 170MPH the back of the hood at the windshield is raised approx 3/8" at the hinges. My GT500 does the exact same....scared the crap out me the first time I saw it!

Yep, so thei is astandard GT350 (non R), so needed a little work to do to get it really dialed in. I used the Steeda lowering springs and front, rear sway bars, camber plates and the IRS support braces. Then I changed the wheels which are approx 33lbs each to the P51 wheels which are approx 21lbs each (the R wheels are the Carbon wheels at approx 18 lbs each). The last big item is the I use the Camaro ZL1 1 LE tires....Goodyear F1 RRR......that tire REALLY is Fantastic and sooooo much better than the Cup 2s. Those changes make the car really competitive against the ZL! 1LE, even though it still has nearly 130HP more then the GT350. @@lakerdude42 No engine mods, although I did do the resonator delete on the exhaust. Also, did not change anything on the the brakes, as they are already so good.....the older models like mine have the drilled rotors and the newer GT350s have a smooth rotor, the drilled rotors brake better on the track.....I have compared my 2018 to the 2020 Heritage model and my buddy and I both agree, I have better braking after we were swapping cars to see handling and braking differences between the 2 cars.

Thank you!!! Yes, so on the first laps it was a white GT500 with black stripes....later was a McLaren and the GT500 running together. You could see they would pull away on the straights, but I would reel them in on the braking zones and in the corners. The GT350 out brakes and out handles the GT500, but does not have the HP to keep up on the banks or on the straights. If you want to see fast laps in a GT500, go to my home page at watch me in my GT500 and power past a Camaro on the banks. So best lap times I. The GT350 were 2:03 and GT500 were 1:58.....the GT350 is still my favorite of the 2.

@@scottsmotorsportsofpalmbeach That GT 500 was pulling away from that McLaren on the straight! I wonder what modifications he had done to his Shelby. I just love it when Shelby's put it on Ferraris, Porsches, and McLaren's
@@ceetee21 so the is a 2020 GT500 with the Carbon Fiber package. Larry owns it and he is pushing over 900HP, that is why he is pulling away. I have no engine mods, so I am about equal with the McLaren on the banks and straights....but I too enjoy taking on the more expensive, but in class cars and making them sweat it out when they see an American Mustang that they can not get rid of in their rear view mirror. Glad you are enjoying the videos....I enjoy watching them as well.
That’s the wrong date or that corvette was a prerelease by a year cuz the c8 came out in 2019 not 2018…and that was the announcement not the official selling but overall dope, my dad had the same color gt350 and we did 171 on the front stretch
Checked the dates, it is correct.....did not see the C8 in the video....which lap did you see it in?
Nice driving man. You got the line down looks like. What group did you run with? I got the Garmin Catalyst for Christmas. Can't wait to use it.
We were in an advanced group, but there were several car that should not have been in there.....but was a ton of fun. On the catalyst, I have had several runs that would not save....would say there was an error....I have heard of other folks having the same issue. So I pulled the memory card and cleaned it up and then replaced, saved all the laps after that. Really easy to use and then load up on TH-cam.

Yep, that is actually a buddy of mine from the Palm Beach Drivers Club. He and that car are the reason why I bought the GT 500.....needed the extra HP!
how are the P51's doing?
Still have the originals on the car and still track it at Daytona, Sebring and Homestead......they have been great. I have heard from a few folks they are weaker which explains the significant weight difference. Also, I now use the Goodyear F1 RRR tire squared ....so using the 305s....has been an amazing combo for track use.
@@scottsmotorsportsofpalmbeach Thanks for the replay! share some more daytona runs...put the camera behind your head or on your helmet so we can see the wheel and gauges as well as the out the dash! great fun but will suck if you bite it!
Surprising there are no Dodges on the track.
Agreed, although they definatley have the Horsepower, they do not handle well on road courses. When you do see one on the tack, they are getting passed as they do not handle or brake well. If you want to see one for a moment, I passed a Dodge and Camaro ZL1 1LE at Daytonabut was in my Shelby GT 500....see this video on my page - 2020 GT500 at Daytona International Speedway
