So much to see in this game... A surprising amount, actually! From out of bounds, to lap skips, physics and just plain weird, this game has it all!
It took a while to create, but it was worth it. Seriously one of the best episodes to date!

3:04 There is speculation from the TCRF Talk page for this game about why the loading zone under Hot Top Volcano exists, and there is evidence from the game itself to back it up
- It isn't confirmed for sure, mostly because nobody either looked at it thoroughly or payed any attention to it, but the Official Nintendo Player's Guide for DKR has an excerpt where if you follow a pterodactyl, you'll find a secret. The only pterodactyls used in the final game are used as decorations for three tracks in Dino Domain, so why would this be significant?
- There is a pterodactyl model that is grouped with the other bosses in the games memory which, alongside an unused sound effect of a pterodactyl getting hit, an unused snowy version of the boss track in Dino Domain, and the pterodactyl boss model having the animations necessary for a boss (except for a talking animation), this means that there was once a pterodactyl boss. You can also see this in action by using a cheat code to play as the bosses, and you'll find the unused pterodactyl that way.
All this means is that the pterodactyl was once a boss that you would defeat, but it does provide the best explanation about why the warp is under Hot Top Volcano in the first place, since it is the only place where both the pterodactyls and the warp exist
All these years of me playing this game and beaten it 100%, I NEVER knew these tricks. Awesome video.

7:17 Not an expert, but I believe this is because you hit a trigger near the entrance of the cave.
This would be here for a couple of reasons the first is to stop the camera from blinding the player if the camera clips through the wall while racing and the second is to create a subtle fog affect to improve the atmosphere while inside of this cave

Yano... The very first race I did on this game was against Wizpig 1 when testing the Hub world out of bounds glitch. Huge mistake.
Thought I'd never get anywhere in this game after that, but it turns out the boss races are just hard compared to everything else 😂

3:10 i wonder if that loading zone is there because the devs making that level would ALSO find themselves out of bounds frequently on this stage? someone should reach out to a level designer if possible. would be a fun interview

@MikeyTaylorGaming Absolutely. DKR has never really had a huge speedrunning community, and has always been this underground type of speedrun, despite it being truly one of the best N64 speedruns, in my opinion. Whenever high quality DKR content is made, it makes me hopeful that more people will discover and pick up this speedrun someday!

I had no idea the checkpoint glitch was even a thing, I'm surprised this was not any more useful for other bosses/courses, especially for the walrus out of bounds potential that seems to be so close to being useful.

And to answer that, the intro talking has been cut from this episode and replaced with a regular "Voice over video" intro. I ran a poll and saw that most people don't want this, but I'm testing this new intro to see how retention is on the channel.
Retention drops an unbelievable amount at the intro so... It may be why the channel is still failing and videos aren't being recomended. Worth a try to change it, and so far seems to be working! (as much as much as I like those intros ahaha!)
Loading zone under a finish line is WEIRD
A strange one indeed... But very helpful!
It's even weirder than the video shows, because it can warp you to a few different places, or in some versions, just crash.
@@renakunisaki this is true, I had the Japanese version of the loading zone in the script but things were already getting a bit complicated 😅

The are too many of them... The speedrunning community really showed me a LOT! Couldn't include even one quarter of them in this ahaha
So that's why the AI is always stuck on that loop wall in Darkmoon Caverns. They're trying to cheat! 😆
The Japanese version you can beat the game with 11 balloons via wrong warp to Dragon Forest in a plane. Neato.
Yep, I had to scrap that from the script as it was getting a bit complicated already, and most people watching only have NTSC/PAL Carts anyway! 😁
Very annoying that I have the PAL 1.0 version. The loading zone in hot top volcano functions but doesn’t take you anywhere when you enter it.
It's a pain isn't it, but emulators are 100% capable of recreating these glitches if you'd like to try them out 😁

Unfortunately they're not the same, so I don't think any of these will be the same for the DS version sorry!
DS seems to be an entirely different engine with different physics.

I skiped this game in its geneation assuming it was just another Mario Kart clone and i could not have been more wrong..
And what a feativle of glitches!
Rare had a habit of taking what Nintendo did and doing the same but better. They saw Mario 64 and made Banjo-Kazooie. They saw Mario Kart and made Diddy Kong Racing. They saw Goldeneye, forgot that they made that one themselves, and made Perfect Dark. They saw Zelda and... tried to make Dinosaur Planet, but didn't have time to finish it.
Sometimes I wonder if Nintendo refused to buy them out because they were embarrassed. lol

These ARE glitches and not cheats for sure, because this game is form the era when games had ACTUAL cheats built in that aren't tied to paying money. XD Freeforall, Blabbermouth, Jointventure...
