    To add to your questions at the end, I went to this tour twice, once at a regional centre in the 'Big Top' and once at this venue in the video the concert before this one on the video. It was 'classic' John Farnham. Very personal, intimate, funny and just a great night/s out.
    I have seen a lot of Australian and International acts over the years (from The Eagles to Dire Straits to Def Leppard to Bon Jovi to ACDC etc) and no one comes close to how John can 'personally' engage/connect with his audience (even with the 'Dad jokes') and make a large venue with around 20,000+ people shrink and feel like he's invited you and a handful of friends around to his his place to watch him have a jam session in his garage with his mates (his band are his close friends, the mutual love and respect between them is obvious). He truly is a consummate performer and is more than just an amazing voice. He's also extremely genuine and 'down to earth' with barely a hint of ego about him.

    I think the concert was called The Last Time, but I doubt whether that was the last time John sang the song. He was 54 here, but he was still doing concerts when he was 70 and still sounding as great as ever. He headlined a concert about three years back that I got to go to, and he was still belting out his hits much to everyone’s pleasure. He was also doing concerts to raise money for bushfire victims and also for drought relief for the farmers recently up until Covid struck. May God bless you John and get well soon.❤️

    For a great concert experience watch John Farnham singing the AC/DC classic Long Way to the Top (if you want to rock & roll) live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1989 & released on DVD in 2005.

    John Farnham's Backup Singers are the best you'll ever hear. They are in total sync with him and are so good they are reactive to him, they move when he moves. Lindsey Fields "The man with the bun" has been with him since Whispering Jack in 1986.

    'The Last Time' tour was in reference to the name of the studio album associated with the tour, 'The Last Time' and was not his 'last time' singing. He mentioned in interviews around the time (and much later) that it was intended as his last time conducting the big solo country wide tours in large venues. For example this tour went from November 6th, 2002 to June 15th, 2003 with 94 shows in 34 locations being conducted nationwide with regional concerts performed in a 'big top'. He said he was getting too old for such a hectic schedule.
    He continued to sing in smaller venues/tours, and being the kind of human he is, many different fund raising concerts for national disasters etc.
    He even had a cameo on stage with Celine Dion when she was performing a concert in Melbourne in 2018 singing 'You're the Voice'. Even approaching 70 years old he belted it out in the same key he did in the 1980s, including startling Celine with one of the notes he hit. To see an artist at the level of Celine Dion being visibly 'star struck' singing next to John says it all. Even the band gave him a standing ovation at the end and Celine literally 'bowed down' to him and pointing at him at the end of the song when singing 'You're the voice try and understand it'. He would have to be close to the male GOAT.

    I was at this show, I remember Lisa Edwards being “presented” to the crowd with her baby.
    John Farnham had just released an album titled “The Last Time”, a title that comes from the cover version of the song by the Rolling Stones, and the tour was based around that album. During the concert he explained that it wasn’t going to be his last time performing, just that he didn’t think he could go on forever performing the larger venues. He of course has since done a number of smaller shows as well as popping up at numerous charity concerts with some of the worlds biggest artists, including Queen and Coldplay.
    The crazy thing is that if he were able to announce a tour like this today, there is no doubt in my mind that he would be able to fill stadiums like this again.

    It wasn't the last time he was still performing at least to 2019 , he used to joke that he had more comebacks than anyone , to the point we thought he would never really retire , our hope is he never does even giving his medical problems if he can perform he will . Its amazing how in the past few years social media and reactors have discovered what we Aussies have known since the 1960's , that Farnsey is one of the best singers on the planet ,no argument ,still we appreciate that the world is finally getting to see his undeniable talent . You will make my day if you react to my other favourite song the beautifully calming and peaceful COOLCHANGE which is a hit song by the Australian group THE LITTLE RIVER BAND which he fronted for a time earlier in his career , it was originally sung by another headline Australian singer Glenn Shorrick who also has a magnificent voice but I think John's version is better , see for yourself check them both out .

    This series of Last Time Concerts which toured for 6 months around Australia, was the last John would perform in huge venues. Although it wasn't the last concert he ever did. After a short break he started collaborating and going on tour with other artists like Tom Jones, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Nix and, Olivia Newton John as well as smaller solo tours, open air concerts and charity concerts. I don't recall if he sang this song at any of those concerts but I think he probably did as it was a fan favourite.

    No, that wasn’t the last time John sang live. I was at this concert and that was John’s first Last Time tour. Jilly kept sending him back. She told him he just lays around and gets fat at home. The last time I saw John sing he was 70 years old and I think he was singing with Celine Dion. She was singing his song and he joined her halfway through. He got emotional because she told him she was his number one fan. John never thinks he is special. I think that was the last time.
    Oh, nice, a Shure microphone. When we found out how talented our adopted baby was, we got her Shure microphones and she thought they were really special. She has perfect pitch hearing and we would record some songs for her to hear back. I remember her saying darn, those microphone’s pick up the slightest slip in pitch but she loved to be better.

    While John is only in his 50’s, it is true that his vocal cords would be thickening and stiffening with age and only the worlds best singers are able to maintain this level of skill after decades of use (think Whitney Houston, Placido Domingo, Tom Jones).. the key is in using the vocal cords correctly and this is something John worked on with his vocal coaches- but the fact that he smoked so heavily was a major mitigating factor and makes one wonder what he could have been capable of had he not smoked.

    • @tonyb4115
      @tonyb4115 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure about that , it's the fact that he could still sing like that whilst smoking that's amazing.
      But if you listen to his early pop records, then what LRB tried to do with his voice, then what he did himself with his own triumphant solo (later) career, well, it's clear his mastery is obvious. So yes I agree to a certain extent but really could his voice be any better?

      Hard to imagine his voice being ANY better than this. I think he just kept his vocal cords limbered up by singing wherever and whenever he could. You can tell he just loves it so much.
      Fir his sake, I sure hope he is able to sing again. Even if it's just for himself.

    • @tonyb4115
      @tonyb4115 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's if he had been a better singer if he didn't smoke.
      I think he extracted everything from singing talent that he could have. Smoking added nothing and took nothing away.
      His voice evolved because he did all the hard yards.
      It's a natural gift.
      And he just happens to be the best.
      He also said he never had many singing lessons ,it was always just there.
      It's a rare talent and one I've been in love with for 54 yrs.
      Hopefully, that gives you an idea of how I feel about him and his singing because to me, he is not just a singer he is a life time of enjoyment.
