As a wildlife photographer this hymn speaks to me! It reminds me that every click of a creature is a photograph of God's creation! Truly, praise Him, ALLELUIA!
I sang this beautiful hymn in the 1940's 50's 60's and 70's after which this one and many others were phased out by the more modern praise songs. Miss them terribly so it is absolute joy in singing them with you. Thank you so much Luke as I felt the older hymns always had more substance.
I definitely have special memories of singing this song growing up. I love it! This song was a very popular one to sing as a call to worship, our first hymn of the day on a Sunday morning.
I love this hymn and all the other old hymns that are still found in the Episcopal hymnal at my church. I remember first hearing this hymn on a beautiful Sunday morning. The sun shone through the tall stained glass windows of the church my family attended. I was just a little girl, but the music and words of this hymn moved me.
Yes, I do and I did❤ My favorite hymn. The crescendo to the final verse is mighty and I feel the love of God profoundly. God bless St. Francis of Assisi for these incredibly beautiful and powerful verses. I am deeply moved by the last two verses. Ralph Vaughan Williams works are inspirational and also a favorite. Thank You❤

@ hahaha Beautiful voice &we’re singing this hymn at choir Sunday . Ive been to St Francis’ hometown &shrine in Assisi -LOVE this Blessed Saint !🙏✝️🛐📿🙏
Being a church organist, I'm looking forward to letting rip with this wonderful hymn over Easter. Lent is lovely but very solemn, many minor key hymns and no Alleluias. The tune is called "Lasst uns Erfreuen" - let us rejoice, and there is joy in the music.
Sir I am enjoying learning . I grew up in an Anglican church and these songs went over my head but you never forget. Now I know Jesus, relearning these songs carry such weight This is a beautiful platform . God bless you in all that you are doing for the kingdom.
I woke up this morning, and this song was in my heart, then I realised it was in my heart through the night, GOD asking me to just praise HIM. HE is a great GOD. Amen.
At the beginning my wife and I did not remember this, until we heard the background music played. It is so sad that institutional congregations fail to explain to congregants what is behind the liturgy of three hymns and a sermon. Again, another word of appreciation for your work and analysis. Yours is a find ministry.
This is my favorite hymn, & my favorite memory is when a choir director transposed the 6th verse to its related minor key. "And Thou most kind & gentle death ..." After many many searches of the internet I have yet to find this variant anywhere, so maybe my choir director was inspired to create it.
I sang this hymn in the 1960's at school in Hong Kong ( Diocesan Girls' School) . We had daily morning assembly. Grateful we had the chance to know all these old hymns .
I've known it from childhood, and sung it at school and church. At the church I attend, this is the version in its hymnal; & we use the tune you shared. It's a lovely hymn & I love it!
Haven't heard this or sung it in so long Sang it in churches growing up in the 1950's and 1960's after we were married in 1962. Then when more contemporary music came along it kept pushing our the hymns.....not that they weren't beautiful in their own way, but we started to lose memory of the words so that now at age 80...learning and so greatful to you for sharing them, playing your piano to them is so wonderful...makes me choke-up at times because it brings back the fullness of their meaning and brings them alive in my heart once more.. and especially today. .for it was brought to my attention by the Lord earlier today that I needed to forgive two people, and I thought I had earlier this evening, during my private Bible Study, but then had to do something and He you you to remind me that it needs to be confessed more thoroughly, to give up holding on to this many year family hurt .....or how can I truly praise Him Thank you for being used as His "instrument" of chastening and His "trumpet of God" to lead me to forgive and so be able to join in "real" praise of Hum once more. The hymns really do accomplish that in me..
"And thou most kind and gentle death waiting tohush our final breath...was forgotten by me....maybe because we were so young, but now it gladly makes me think of going home ..of being forgiving....of cleaning up the slate ...of being at "the gate"---- if heaven ...almost there...." most kind and gentle death" ...that will usher us in...past the gate....in, ....in,....into His loving arms....on the other side ...no more pain, no more sorrow, no more tears ...and His creation, His heavenly one ...will be praising Him there... Amen....
God is sure blessing you in your channel. He brought me to your channel. I love to worship him in these old hymns. I have never heard this hymn, it is beautiful.
We sing a different version to this in Australia. Also in more recent times we sing the Sovereign Grace version. By the way, Scripture teaches us that God is a consuming fire! We only have to look at the children of Israel being led through the desert by a cloud by day & pillar of fire at night. I do like the Sovereign Grace version best!!
Oh come you birds and mount with eagle's wings! Soar through the skys to honor now our God . Oh sing you earth and give him laud! And with the birds may pastures, hills, meadows valleys sing, giving honor to God , Creator King! And to the sun, now proclaim like a Bridegroom coming from his chamber and publish now to every land the works of the Almighty's hand! And now Oh moon take up your wondrous tale. And nightly to the listening earth repeat the story of her birth. While'st all the stars that round her burn and all the planets in their turn: Confirm the tidings as they roll and spread the Truth from pole to pole! What though no real or voices sound amidst their radiant orbs be found! The birds and all creatures great and small with sun moon and stars rejoice and utter forth in glorious voice! Forever, singing as they shine. The hand that made us is divine! 🎶 🎶 🎶
I love this song!!! We don’t sing all those verses where I am near Boston, Massachusetts, USA - but I enjoyed learning the history and the new verses. Thanks Luke - God bless you & congrats on 25,000 subscribers 🎉
To be honest, it's hardly a Christian song: "Mother earth", that's Pagan, "Thou most kind and gentle death" how could death praise God? Death entered the world because of the Fall and is always depicted in the Bible as negative: oh death, where is your sting?"
THANK YOU LUKE. ALWAYS SO VERY BLESSED LISTENING TO YOU. SUCH MEANINGFUL WORDS. STAY AWESOMELY BLESSED AND KEEP SINGING FOR JESUS.
I always loved this song. It's very moving when sung with passion.
As a wildlife photographer this hymn speaks to me! It reminds me that every click of a creature is a photograph of God's creation! Truly, praise Him, ALLELUIA!
💯
I love and treasure the hymns. The words are beautiful, and touch the heart, humble you, and bring you closer to God the Father.💜🕊💜

I can identify with this. I love the old hymns.
Glory to God
Sang this hymn in Sunday school. Love it
I definitely have special memories of singing this song growing up. I love it! This song was a very popular one to sing as a call to worship, our first hymn of the day on a Sunday morning.
❤My heart was touched by all seven verses and wrote them down. It makes me weep to listen to your voice sing it.

The whole universe is the handicraft of GOD,God's glory has been manifested in this song.I like this phrase pray in humbleness.

God bless you in all that you are doing for the kingdom.
This reminds me of the Book of Daniel chapter 3. Asking all different parts of creation to bless the Lord ♥️
Very very glorious,
Something from south african.
You are a chosen,
Just like the man who curried a Cross around south African.
I woke up this morning, and this song was in my heart, then I realised it was in my heart through the night, GOD asking me to just praise HIM.

The first hymn I ever heard, at my brother's primary school when I was three, or maybe four. Loved it then, and love it now, nearly 70 years later.
Great!
I've known it from childhood, and sung it at school and church. At the church I attend, this is the version in its hymnal; & we use the tune you shared. It's a lovely hymn & I love it!
Thank you enjoying this
I walked down the aisle at my wedding to the tune only
on the church organ.
Thank you and God bless you Luke! Hallelujah! Praise God!
Thank you Luke, greetings from South Australia.
St Francis had the stigmata -wounds of Christ . 🙏📿✝️🙏💙
Thank you so much! I sang this many times in Lutheran churches through the years. I never knew it’s history. Thank you again 🙂
Luke
You Truly do an excellent work educating Us

Praising God Christ

This hymn is now 800 years old in 2025!

Should be "used by Him".and should be "and also sung them in churches after we were married in 1962, and for many years after that, but then ...."
Should be , "learning the words to them once more"
"And thou most kind and gentle death waiting tohush our final breath...was forgotten by me....maybe because we were so young, but now it gladly makes me think of going home ..of being forgiving....of cleaning up the slate ...of being at "the gate"---- if heaven ...almost there...." most kind and gentle death" ...that will usher us in...past the gate....in, ....in,....into His loving arms....on the other side ...no more pain, no more sorrow, no more tears ...and His creation, His heavenly one ...will be praising Him there... Hi Luke, beautiful song
This is still sung in the Episcopal Church today. 2024
God is sure blessing you in your channel. He brought me to your channel. I love to worship him in these old hymns. I have never heard this hymn, it is beautiful.
Very interesting details. Thanks.

Should be "Him" not Hum...my arthritic fingers miss the correct letters ...sorry everyone❤

Not "if". BUT "in heaven"
