This was such a fun video to watch, I like to see the rough with the smooth as not every book is good. It's one thing I've learned this year is just because a book is pretty doesn't mean that it has any substance on the inside, it's been a painful realisation

Hi kimberly, your review was fun. I agree the author tried to do to much in one book. I had the same issue with a tempest of thee. I did enjoy the wren more than the tempest though because of the extreme confusion about WTF was going on i am extremely curious were she is going to take this. With the tempest of thee i just didnt care.

If book boxes don't stop the Romantasy books...Im stop my OC subscription. It breaks my heart...but I'm interested in fantasy....not romance

YES! Love OC but I am so tired of romantasy. They literally are making a box for it so stop putting it in the regular one!

Happy Anniversary! So this book isn't about a wren....or a library? It didn't appeal to me this first time I heard about it on TH-cam....so glad I didn't buy it. Really appreciate your honest opinions 👍

I actually decided to dnf this yesterday. I'm very happy I did and I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy it, but part of me is happy to hear I'm not alone with those thoughts on it. Mine was the fairyloot edition and I'm so sad that I haven't enjoyed any of my bookbox picks all year.

I didn't mind the book. I didn't think I liked urban fantasy but it seems I do and enjoy most fantasy books depending on the story (high, low, romance, dark, etc). I don't mind watching reviews of books that people dislike that I liked when they have valid feelings of why they don't like it. It's their thoughts, and if they didn't like what/how something was written it's their personal preferences. You always break down what and why you don't like something in a book and I like to hear it. Sometimes I hate a book and can't explain exactly why. I'm bummed you didn't like it when it was a book you were looking forward to for months to read. I felt that way with The Familiar. I was looking forward to it's release for so long and it was nothing like I expected. I didn't "hate" it like you did this book, but I didn't like it as much as anticipated. I remember you liked it more than I did.
This book seems like a cross between urban and dystopian since magical people and apparently vampires took over (which was more of a swift mention and quick scene) and the less magical or non magical people were left poor and crapped on forcing them to steal and take horrible jobs to get by. It seems like the author wanted to dip into Celtic folklore but instead of sprinkling it in throughout, put most of it at the end which was an odd choice. Maybe after a round of edits it was suggested to add the Celtic element and that's why it seemed rushed and tossed together that way? The publishers are finding that a pretty cover and sprayed edges will get books to sell quicker than a plain one. I see book boxes choose books that I normally wouldn't look twice at as their pick and slap a pretty cover with end page art and sprayed edges and after reading it I don't care for the book much. Other times they pick I book I think I wouldn't like and find that I did. Example The Unmaking of June Farrow. I didn't think I would like it and enjoyed it a lot. Then Masters of Death I was a DNF. I thought I would love it and many people were raving about it and I hated it. I couldn't even make myself listen to it anymore. Maybe it is one that I should have physically read, but I was so annoyed that I sold my copy.

I knew you kind of liked the video and 90% of the DO NOT WATCH THIS, was aimed at you 🤣🤣🤣 I didn't want to disappoint you

I'm so glad I never picked this book up. I've heard such mixed things about it but I was almost tempted to pick it up anyway just because it looked pretty. Now I'm glad I didn't because based off your review I think I would hate it and probably have dnf'd it after 5 chapters.

Yeah do NOT get sucked in by the pretty cover. It was a lie. I wish I was you and hadn’t read it 😅

@kimberlyreads It's okay, I had that happen with Heaven Breaker. I got sucked in by the edges and then was like "Oh gawd, I wish I hadn't read this" lmao

I actually liked the book and will read the next one but I actually do agree with you on many points. The ex girlfriend plot was totally pointless, and I also think the main relationship could have been written better and I really didn’t care about Kierses friends. lol I didn’t care if they lived or died.

Hi Kimberly, so sorry you hated it so much 😮 but thank you for your honest opinion of this book, I will try to do the same 😊
This was such a strange mix of Shadowhunters meets Crescent City but not in the best way. The whole supposed beauty and the beast retelling was not well executed also and it did this storyline no favors..Basically it hasn’t shown us anything we haven’t already seen or heard. That was my biggest quarrel with this book. It tried to be too many things, but it fell flat.. It was marketed well and follows all the trends, but sadly it doesn’t make it a good book. I‘m curious if you noticed how the names this author has chosen for his characters are either very weird or they are borrowed from another author (for example Lorcan, Ethan….??) I find that funny 😆 I did not hate this book but I didn’t love it either, so basically I am very meh about it. I liked it better though then crescent city books, that I have to point out, cause I have given those one star and have actively hated them - All my expectations were drown in senseless plot and boring characters and the worst world building ever… Now, this book I have rated higher after reading it, but after sitting with me for some time I am giving it very meager three stars.

Yes! I agree that it was such a weird mix of CC and Shadowhunters. It was so bizarrely done. I glossed over so much of the book, but I did pick up on the use of Lorcan and thought that was a bit fishy. Maybe she's a SJM super fan 😆
I'm so glad you didn't hate it. I was hoping most people would like it or at least have a somewhat good time with it.

I don’t generally like monsters or urban fantasy, so I didn’t even try to read this one, and now I’m glad I didn’t. Lol. I really enjoyed this video, though. I find passionate book reviews really interesting; whether the person loved or hated it barely matters. And it sounds like you passionately disliked this book. 😂

I definitely felt there was too much in this book, and the beauty and beast aspect was thin at best. But i didn't hate it. It was a 3 star for me.

Good! I always want people to at least somewhat enjoy the books! I'll take this as a win.

I had been curious about this book but never picked it up as I was hesitant. I don't mind a good romantasy but it sounds like this was not.
