What are your memories of playing Spy Vs Spy? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1984: tinyurl.com/1984-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I have read the comic strips from the MAD magazine, watched the old cartoon shows from MAD TV... And, of course, played all three SPY VS. SPY games on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 😺👍🕹️. Absolutely and retrospectively brilliant comic tie-in 😺👍🕹️.
I have the best memories of this game with my family. I was not great at the game because I was younger but! I have the golden memories of my family taking turns, laughing and smiling and really enjoying the game and each other company, those days would not last for my family but because of your video, I was able to remember the bowls of popcorn, the chips and salsa, Cans of pepsi and Dr. pepper.. I remember the outfit i had on one of the days man... the radio was on and we were having a blast. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Cheeky.
It HAS a remake, for the original Xbox, and still playable online with Insignia servers. I'm not sure how active the game still is though, I haven't tried the Insignia servers myself. But there are videos of people playing it last year.
Loved that game, played it to DEATH, sooo many hours of playing it, solo and especially with my brother and various friends. SO damn good! Like the sequels too, especially the 2nd one.
First time I saw this was on a friend's dad's old Apple 2 computer that he had built into a wood case. After that I got the sequel for the 64 and LOVED it with similar memories to what you mentioned. The theme to this game and the second are hard coded into my brain and constantly find myself humming them. Great video!
Ahh yeah there's 2 more but I'd say the original was the best one - however that's just my subjective view. There were some that liked the 2nd one more 😇🕹👌
Refreshing game (still is). Wonderfully balanced. The PvP mechanics look very simple but there are plenty of tactics you can develop from them, combat is a bit messy but mostly avoided. Loved these PvP split screen titles ; Pit Stop II and The Decathlons that year were awesome as well.
This is the tutorial I’d needed back in the 80s. This was a game I know I wanted to know how to play but I never understood just how, neither did my friends it seems.
If only we had TH-cam back in the 80s! It would have save d alot of headaches and heartaches when trying to figure out a game - I was way too impatient to read through the instructions, I just wanted to load the game straight away 😇🕹️👌
Ahh thats what I love to hear, because its that kind of nostalgia that spurs me on... to hopefully bring back some great memories for everyone. Definitely good times... the best times 😇🕹️👌
Loved this. As a MAD Magazine fan, I was already familiar with the concept when I discovered the game. It was tricky to play, in the sense that the controls seemed over-sensitive and the traps wouldn't always stay set! But it was a clever idea and very compelling for "one more go". Many hours spent playing! Good fun. :-)
Superb in 2 player mode... I'd set the maximum size map and leave a massive trail of torture for whoever I was playing with then watch all of the booby traps go off 😇🕹️👌
This game was a real hoot back in the day, I used to play against my sister or my Dad, and would always be looking at the their half of the screen to see where they set the traps and hid things :)
An absolute cracker of a game. Me and school mates always trying to out do each other and kill each other. This was a very fun game. This and SvS 2 where some of the most fun games to play with friends. Great vid.
Some good nostalgic memories right there - I used to play the same style as you, setting traps all over for my friends to walk into 🤣 used to bring a lot of laughter this game 😇🕹👌
One thing I found fascinating about this one: it was relatively easy to lure the other player to a door at the top of the room and trick them into losing the fight by triggering a bucket-trap on that door (since button-up could be interpreted as "open the upward door" rather than "swing baton upward"). And... despite, obviously, not playing with a joystick- the computer player could ALSO be tricked into making this mistake.
8:40 What you didn't show, but which was fundamental to why the game was so cool, is that you could do 2 player over the modem. This was 1986 so we only had 300 baud modems, but just the idea that my friend could be at his house, me at my house, both of us telling our moms we were sick, skipping school, and setting traps for each other, that was so profound it blew my mind.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer 😅 It wasn’t the internet. Back in those days you could buy a 300 baud modem for the C64 and direct dial someone. So that was the other problem, not only did we both have to skip school but we had to tie up the phone line for hours 😅 but it was worth it! It seemed soooo futuristic to play PvP from our houses because previously you had to sit next to each other on the couch.
Love it in 2 player mode... just to wreak havoc on my unsuspecting friends and I litter the whole level with traps and watch them lured to their impending doom, mwhaahaha not that I got much pleasure out of this, of course 😇🕹️👌
Still a very addictive little game, however it may be a little dated now... depending on your age. Still, I think its worth playing for sure. Much better with a friend in 2 player mode 😇🕹️👌
I've always been extremely competitive (I assume it has to do with me growing up with karate and being in tournaments ever since a small child), so Spy VS Spy was high up on my favorite list to torture friends with. I very, very rarely lost :P
Haha I guess mmyou was similar to my brother... he'd hate losing at anything, where I was much more passive. However, when we'd play together... it was WAR! 🤣🕹👌
I just about preferred the sequel but this is such a fun game, as long as you have a mate to play with. Again, this was pretty much a new concept at the time, but we were getting new experiences every other week in the mid 80s. Having been brought up in the UK on a diet of Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy, this sort of madcap slapstick violence was hard coded into our DNA and was a big reason these did so well here. Hell, we had a sitcom that was basically a grimy version of this in Rik & Ades masterful Bottom.
Bottom was good fun, that and the Young Ones were my favourites growing up, daft humour but was definitely very much at the forefront of my kind of comedy back then 😇🕹👌 great memories
Much better game in 2 player with real people - the computer character was always a little bit too predictable and very easy to fall for your traps 😇🕹️👌
Just a quick message to say I'll do a shoutout for members, but as am a little ahead of scheduling for videos this may be end of May, hope thats ok buddy! 😇🕹️👌

I used to play this game back in 1987-88, the background music was hypnotic.
I used to have it as a ring tone a while back hehe, never get tired of listening to the music 😇🕹️👌

Cracking game this, played it loads with my good buddy back in the day 😇🕹️👌

Doctor Pepper still has to be one of the best drinks to play games with huh! Even after all these years, its my go-to soda for gaming 😇🕹️👌
Loved playing this as a kid with my brother. Definitely deserves a remake - it still has so much potential!
Its still very playable even to this day, had some good fun making the video 😇🕹️👌

One of my favorites too ! I've read Spy vs Spy in MAD magazine as well, brillant ! i loved the last, foldable, page too !
The magazines are good fun to feed, amusing and definitely very collectable 😇🕹️👌
Loved that game, played it to DEATH, sooo many hours of playing it, solo and especially with my brother and various friends. SO damn good! Like the sequels too, especially the 2nd one.
Hopefully I'll get around to the sequels over the next few weeks. This was definitely the best of the three though 😇🕹️👌

Such an instantly recognisable piece of music, one that invokes a hundred memories every time I hear it 😇🕹️👌
Loved this game - no idea there were 2 more - will have to download them.
Ahh yeah there's 2 more but I'd say the original was the best one - however that's just my subjective view. There were some that liked the 2nd one more 😇🕹👌

Ahh Pitstop 2 was another great 2 player game... Decathlon too, although I needed to eat my weetabix before playing that game! 😇🕹️👌

Yeah same for me, I could get lost in this game for hours and hours with friends 😇🕹️👌 good fun game
Reminds me as a kid reading mad magazines. I like that madtv in the earlier seasons animated spy vs spy.
Some good nostalgia right there... the comics are awesome 😇🕹️👌
Loved this game with my friends , always a good time with knife fights when we end up in same room ! hours of fun!
Haha yeah, "Take That!" whilst whacking the other player with what looks like a cane of some sort. Great fun 😇🕹️👌
I used to play this game with my dad when I was a kid. At the time, I was blown away by the split screen multiplayer. Good times.

Great, relaxing tune. 👍 Thanks for your video! 🙏😉
Easy to get lost in the music - added to what is a fantastic game 😇🕹️👌
the amount of hours spent playing this back in the day , was good when i got friends around to be the player 2

Haha that must have been frutrating if you did that in 2 player mode. I think my brother would have rage quit and give me a thick ear for that 😇🕹️👌

Had many hours of good fun with this one as a kid 😇🕹️👌
