So appreciative of the SP team. They actually listen and care about the community that's been built up around this device. Makes me feel optimistic about the future of the SP scene. Personally, the only thing I can think of that I really want is sidechain compression, but other than that I'm delighted with this update.
you can get a sidechain like effect by using either the 303 Vinyl Sim Comp or Comp effects, crank your kick (or source for sidechain) and lower the volume of the rest of the tracks. The comp raises the volume of the quieter tracks til the kick or source sound hits. then those quieter sounds duck out of the way like it would with a sidechain comp
@rush2795 that kinda works but I'd like more control over the pumping. I rarely want an extreme amount of pumping in a track.
@@brianrainsfordmarshall2692 even then you could just bring the volume back up of the other tracks which would reduce the pump effect. all that aside, would be nice to have a dedicated sidechain comp
@@rush2795 What you described isn’t actually sidechain compression, but you know that rite? You’re just simulating the effect. Some people like the sound of it for whatever genre they’re working in, but I think he’s talking about true sidechain for mixing purposes.

The quantize after recording is huge!! That’s so awesome
This is such a great update! My number one wishlist feature remains elusive: full song or pattern stem export. While they provided tools that make tracking a fully composed song to your DAW easier, it still involves a ton of time and manual muting/unmuting. I pray for the day that every individual pad across my whole song could be exported to its own wav file. I like to start tracks on the SP and then move them to Logic but tracking out a whole songs length of kick drums, then snare drum, then hi hats, etc… is so tedious.

@@rorz999 the RAM is there because of the recording buffer that's always recording, though I suspect that something about the way it writes data to SD card might interrupt the playback process due to a CPU/microprocessor limitation. Hopefully it'd be something that could be solved with some smart recoding, though.

Great update! Especially love the VST support for the editor app and support for maximum SD card size increase to 1TB. Now DJ mode makes sense since u can load many many tracks..
The increase to 1TB cards is actually my favourite update of all. So handy having all my samples on one card now
How do you open the app as a VST? EDIT: Seems like the VST version is only available for Mac unfortunately.

did you try slicer? its a fake ducking effect with 32 different patterns. id sooner better workflow than more bells n whistles/effects.
@@8iamretarded8 to be fair sidechain is a staple of every genre of music the 404 is used to make.

Hello dear Roland team!
Thanks a lot for updating SP 404 MK2, especially for adding the ADSR in gate mode.
I've tested it and find out, that on Bass sample, even when decay is 3-4 it produces some noisy artifacts in the end (where decay is).
And when you use gate mode without adding longer decay - Bass sound produce the clicks in the end of the note, when you let go the pad.
Hope you will fix this and it will be possible to play BASS sounds without any clicks and noises.
I find a way to fight the clicks and noises - filter CUTOFF helps a lot, but even my old ENSONIQ from 1988 year do it better - just record the sample and play.
Another thing would be great is to increase the PITCH level, so i can play any sample whole keybord range ( like old ENSONIQ keybords do), because its feel very limited.
Another one important thing - is to increase the BPM range, for example, my sample is from vinyl record and its 78,6 BPM but I can't use fractional numbers in pattern mode.
Also, all type of filters for all the pads and sidechain compression would be great!

I pre ordered my SP and it took forever to finally arrive. I was disappointed. That said, thank you Roland for making it worth the wait!!! When 2.0 came out I was stoked to see so many features added and felt better about my purchase. 3.0 is more than I realized I even wanted (would have been pretty stoked with just the ability to more easily copy samples between projects)!!! The value added to this product after purchased is greatly appreciated and if your goal is "brand loyalty" THIS IS THE WAY to do it 💜💜💜

Almost there! I wish there was a way to record my guitar to a pad while a pad or sequencer pattern is playing the drums. Not sure if that's possible yet but that's the feature I've been waiting for.

This SP404MK2 already is one of a legendary classic. I've never experienced SUCH a support of the manufacturer and such a huge improvement in all things per updates. This thing get's newly invented with almost every firmware update. And then it also does many many many things SO well that I'd recommend one to EVERYONE who's dabbling with electronic music to some degree, even if you're solely DJing.
This thing is gonna be my next purchase for sure, I just wanted a fun sampling "toy" but this thing looks like it can produce entire songs on it's own once you get to know it well enough.
@@NachozMan The only thing you really need to learn is the shortcuts. If you know these, everything will be lightning fast and intuitive.
Roland love the new update and you definitely making moves to make this machine better .... I wish I could save more projects ... And make it easier to export my project as a wav file

i wonder if roland ever considers disabled users when they come up with these multi key press funtions. whilst holding don shift reverse and remain is trivial for users with functioning fingers for disabled people suffering with ALS like me and many others units like this become seriouly difficult to operate. double pressing the shift to lock it would be a godsend.

This is a fantastic update to be sure. I am now just waiting for a sidechain function to be added and then I think it's complete for me. If any SP tutorial video makers see this. I could really do with a full tutorial on using the SP. I feel like when these updates are added it makes a lot of my previous knowledge a bit redundant and could really use a course on getting the most out of it with the updates included. Beginner to expert style. But like I say overall, thanks roland for this as it obvious you are putting in great efforts with this brilliant tool!
tried slicer? if you want ducking. sidechain is pretty complex to process so dont expect it on the sp
@@8iamretarded8 is it really that complex though? It could be as simple as a volume envelope, which is already on the SP.
the only device out there that has sync delay that's a game changer for synic to diff clocks without a say an erm muliclock!

Is there a "cheat sheet" that has the ever-expanding list of key-press combinations and what they do?? Would be nice to have all the cool key combos listed somewhere in a PDF or something...

A really great Update!
It would be really useful if the users could choose in the menu, if the pad mutes mute the trigger or the sound being played on the pad.
For a lot of live performances, it's much more useful to mute the pad without the sound beeing cut of directly. Also, when unmuting, if the sample has been triggered while being muted, it instantly pops the volume up to 100%, which doesn't sound really smooth.
I get that there are use cases for this but especially for people using this as a device that plays back sequenced samples in a live situation (which this device becomes more useful for with every update) muting the triggers instead of the sound would make much more sense.
That's a good request actually. It would be good to be able to choose how the mutes work

Nice update, hope the next fills some of those blank spaces for effects , a better EQ would be top of my list or one with bell curves for low and high rather than shelves as an option. Or even one that dynamically changed from shelf to bell the higher you go. Really nice update nonetheless, ty.

Excellent update! What would like to see in the future is: A high-pass filter (HPF) A low-pass filter (LPF) & all variations of filters or EQ ( Like Koala) on each pad,sample and bank like we have pitch, envelopes and volume for each sample/pad. Yes please thank you Roland.
Really amazing job. I am quite fresh to the game but I can already noticed thing or two TH-camrs desperately wanted like the gated envelope, one shots or the copying between the project....so maybe start of a resampling without stopping the playback next time? Maybe ,maybe? Pretty please :) But even if not, still, hats off boys for such extensive and frequent updates.

Still needs a few improvements :
- In DJ mode : I don’t know if it’s a bug or what but currently when you load a track/sample, it affects the channel’s FX Bus routing. This isn’t the behavior I’m expecting in a DJing workflow. If it was intended, a setting to override the pad-level FX Bus assignment and force assign FX Bus 1 to Channel 1 and FX Bus 2 to Channel 2 would bring a more natural DJing workflow.
- In Pattern mode : some performance note input modes would be really cool to have (arpeggio, chords, note repeat).
- In Chain mode : ability to choose how many iterations the pattern plays. This would help creating more complex/longer arrangements more easily. It would be also cool to have the new bounce feature for Chains.
- Otherwise, as we can now use 1TB sd cards, some even simple multi-sampling and multisample playback capabilities would make sense.
It’s crazy how this update drastically decreased the size of my improvement requests list, yeah it used to be so much longer than that 😅
Keep up the good work Roland teams, this mk2 is becoming as cult as the original 404 with this new direction taken.
Excellent and sensible feature request list. Especially the part about bus assignments in DJ mode: As it is now, you have no way to change which bus your tracks are going to in DJ mode. To make that change, you would need to stop playback and make the adjustment outside of DJ mode. I agree that channel 1 should always go to bus 1 and channel to into bus 2.
@Alex are you still using the mk2? I discovered a slight improvement in bus fx workflow for DJ mode
