Thanks algorithm, I love this guy
you'll not have to get a day job ever again!! thanks for the more than useful tutos man
Mr. Dan Devon. I discovered your channel a few months back looking for interesting ways to use the SP and other equipment. Your work is inspiring and I'm a huge fan. Keep up with the content!
You are authentic, and it shows. Subbed
dope idea. i have a separate field recorder & mic set up (pcm-m10 & clippys), & i love the sp404. this may not be something i do, but this is my favorite thing about the sp404 community: thinking outside the box & finding incredible ways that fits their use case.

I found your page on a modular subreddit & enjoy your experimental approach! I want to pick up an elektron digikat or adjacent, and record acoustic/field recorded sounds. Would a microphone like yours do the trick?
Thank you for your support. Using a condenser/shotgun microphone for field recordings would be best. However, a dynamic microphone, like the Shure 57a I'm using in the video, can suffice, depending on what application you looking for.
@2:02 According to the specs the SP404Mkii records at 48khz/16bit , not 44.1 as mentioned on the video. The old SP-404A/SX was at 44.1 I think. Thanks for the video.
Is this good or bad? I got an MK2 and im worried about the quality before i hop in on this hobbie
@@jatu5708 It is good. 48khz/16bit is better than 44.1khz/16bit (=CD quality) .
Thanks for the correction
I love the creativity you e got going here! I can see my SP404mk2 as a kind of Swiss Army knife , will consider it for integrating natural environment recording. but also bringing in its resampling, chop, loop, slice tools in novel field environments. I use a Zoom H6, Tas DR40 etc for higher fidelity when I need it, so not worried about the SP404’s specs… Thanks Devon!
Nice mate. I also have a good field recording rig but this gives me an idea to feed that live into the SP for experimental treatments and resampling!
I've been meaning to reach out and subscribe... Besides you and Takeo I don't see anyone using the SP as a sample based, environmental artist...I need a camera setup. You are so inspiring. I want to record both myself, and the environment in a mix that doesn't drown each other out...
Boss level would be to bring the MPC Live 2 for field recording!
Thanks for this, it's really helpful!
Pulse-quickening for sure. So what buttons do I need to push to record and set it up properly? Thanks man.
I use my iPhone and the audioshare app. Recordings come out pretty good.
Great idea, bigger than most field recorders but it works
Yeah there’s definitely easier methods. This is just one creative way to use the SP that I thought about under a tree one day 😅
I am a little terrified of bringing my SP-404 outside since the pots are pcb mounted... One wrong move and I would be crying sad sad tears. But this method is way more immediate than what I end up doing, which is take my zoom recorder out to get sounds, upload to my computer, trim, take the card out of my SP-404, put the new recording onto the SP-404 card, put it back...
the more I think about it the better your method is looking
Superb matey: really useful, engaging, entertaining and inspiring. Ta muchly :)
Glad you enjoyed it
no dayjob for u, i just subscribed!!! 😤

since sp404 has no phantom 48 volt which needed to power up the condenser mic, the other alternative maybe by using 'self powered condenser mic' even with only using 1.5 volt battery..
You can make a 48v battery array, or use 12v Dewalt in parallel 4x.
Good observation. Thanks
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed
Thanks Dan great info
Great idea.....But just get yourself a Zoom H1n fieldrecorder for 50 bucks....It rocks and is WAY LESS cumbersom (SP....Powerbank....Mic....Decksaver..)....You can call it portable all you want but that's bogus and you know it....And if you want higher quality, you give good examples yourself.
Given its size it is also pretty vulnerable (specially at that price).
Also that cheap zoom records beautiful stereo. I personally dont need to see a church mic ever again
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome. Thanks. Shalom.
Interesting username 🤔
That's a subscribe for me
The microphone capsules of field recorders are not the same thing as a conventional mike. The only resemblance of the SP 404 to field recorders is that it is portable and can use batteries

I’m working on an idea. However thinking of videos that are explosively cool are very hard to think of. Thanks again for supporting the channel 🔥
Wish people would stop saying M K two. It’s MARK two. Mark.
