    @Digital Stereophony: Thank you so much for doing this comparison. It does not matter how old speakers are, when they sound good they will remain good until they break. Which does not happen that often. I bought Bowers & Wilkins DM 302 bookshelf speakers when I was 28 and now I am moving on 52 and I still listen to them ! Likewise, the T20 series II will not be dumped because it is "old" or something, but I wanted a second set for my daughter's laptop and had almost bought the T40 series II because it looks bigger and the price was very similar to the T20 now. Thanks to you having done this comparison I now quickly scrapped that idea and have ordered a second pair of T20's for her. It is much cleaner sounding and transparent than those T40's. Hearing the rock music segment opened my ears so to speak. Just muddled. So again, I appreciate all your time and efforts you have put into all this.

    Another classic comparison starring two Creative models, T20II and T40 II. Those speakers are few good years old now but they still seem to be popular, so I decided to give them a go and compare them. When I tested smaller T20 II few months ago I was actually pleasantly suprised by them, they turned out to be solid sounding budget speakers. How does bigger T40 II compares? Is it worth the extra money over smaller T20 II?
    T40 II has an extra bass driver so there is more bass coming out of T40 II, but unfortunately its bass is also more boomy. T40 II also has warmer sound signature with more recessed upper midrange and top end so it will be easier to listen on longer sessions. Overall T40 II does not offer much improvement in sound quality over smaller T20 II, while also costing more. T40 II is also significantly bigger than T20 II, very easy to tip off to the sides. If You are choosing between those two than get the T20 II, as the price of T40 II puts it very close to speakers like Edifier R1700BT which are much better choice IMO.
    What do You think? Let me know if You find T40 II better sounding and worthy the extra cost! Cheers!

    After giving my 1st gen T20s to my mother, I purchased T40 Series II speakers, and I am not impressed. Couldn't compare side to side, but the impression I have is that the mids feel slightly richer, the bass isn't necessarily any better, it even sounds muddy in comparison. I was impressed by the smaller ones, T40s aren't worth the extra cost.

  • @drew1665
    @drew1665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    After just buying the T20's I was a little disappointed in the fuzzy sounding bass that blankets everything destroying clarity in the mids. It's definitely recommended to buy a good 2.1 system so this can be controlled.
    However I found a fix. Scrunch up a couple of tissues and stuff them relatively tightly into each bass tube hole, then turn the bass dial to max and wow!! All that reverberating mess is instantly tamed and bass is much tighter.
    Feeling a lot better now, phew!

    The T40 has significantly more pronounced bass, you might not hear it that well outside the bass-test due to the overexposed mids.
    If you're unsure wich to buy and you can afford the higher price i would go for the t40. EQ can easily get this sounding better than t20 can.
    Buyers beware tho:
    If your creative speakers starts to have audio-issues after a while, open them up and clean the pot-meters with electronic cleaning spray and work the pot-meters.
    They aren't the best quality and are easily affected by humidity.

  • @Livert79
    @Livert79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I think T40 adds some to the mids, but also sounds a tiny bit more boxy. On most songs in the demo I liked T40 best, but actually not sure if it's worth the higher price.

      @@BillyKueekSG Thanks for your help. I use the Pioneer headphones SE-MJ22T-W. I'm especially interested to know the audio quality of something like the Piano Sonata No. 8 of Mozart, because the piano recordings are the ones with the lowest volume and therefore there is a lot of space for increasing the volume with the speaker to obtain an immersive sound.
      Orchestral recordings, as well as rock pieces, are already loud and don't need so much amplification, unless it's a live concert (an other useful test would be with a live orchestral concert, like for example Symphony No. 5 of Beethoven).
      Now, I read that the speakers in itself are loud when used as pure speakers (is it correct?), but what I need to know is if they are also loud when you connect the headphones, because it's the way in which I usually use my pc speakers. So, if you have a high volume setted in your speaker and you connect the headphone, the sound you hear in the headphones is as loud as the one you heard before to connect the headphones or does it have a lower volume? How much loud is the sound compared to the one you hear if you directly connect the headphones to your pc with the same system volume? Is the sound distorted when th speakers are setted at a consistent volume, or is it clean?

    T20's got some crisp audio with just enough bass to fill them out. The T40's are far fuller in the mids to lows. You could probably tune down the bass a touch and substitute with some highs for a tiny bit more pop. Either way- I'm looking at getting the T40's.

    • @rdolle990
      @rdolle990 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends in the type of music you are listening. The Kratos S3 seems like a typical gaming setup with adjustable LED lights.... and with single drivers in the satellites they're not so much focused on (critical) music listening I think. Just 55hz for a subwoofer system is also not really digging deep here. Edifier r1850db will be way better, and if you think it lacks low end, you can still add a (used) small active sub.

    Something interesting here. The T40 are supposed to be 16 watts x2 but when I took mine apart the two main drivers are rated at 10 watts 3 ohms each, plus the tweeter which is 4 watts. So that's 24 watts per channel, for a total of 48 watts. The audio amp is the Texas Instruments TPA3123D2 which can handle 25 watts per channel. So my question is why would Creative still rate the T40 Series 2 as 32 watts instead of 48 watts? In comparison to my T20 series 2 which use a 10 watt 6 ohm driver and a 4 watt tweeter for a total of 14 watts per channel for a total of 28 watts, (which is the same as Creatives website says) I can hear a clear improvement in mids and lows. Maybe the particular set you used in the video is older or something, since the photo's I've seen on the net don't match up at all. The drivers and amp board are totally different compared to mine.

      I have both of them (T40 first release and T20 II ),. T40 are so much better - it's hard to compare. T20 are boomy bass sounding and highs are to brittle. T40 are distinguish and fancy in mid range. Vocals sound much much better on T40. T40 are not neutral but very musical and more plesant to ear. this is not possible to setup T20 bass/treble to sound sweet when listen to in example Susan Wong. T20 are good for traveling because of less weight.

      T20 is much better. I hear the difference with very expensive studio monitors. If you want more bass and volume, T40 is ok.... If you want a more accurate reproduction of sound T20 all day.

      There's a comparison between T40 and T100. Both T40 and T20 beat T100, but T100 has more features such as Bluetooth. I wonder if it's possible to plug a Bluetooth receiver to T20 for wireless capability.

    • @heavybizness
      @heavybizness 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shiouming Thanks for that, I actually settled on a different set of speakers (Edifier) because I was so unsure about the options for Creative and the T100 had barely any reviews because they'd only just been released.

      @@heavybizness Glad to hear that you found something good for your need. I'm still struggling... I'm looking for small wireless speaker for home use. Started by looking into those portable BT speakers such as JBL Flip 4 and Charge 4, Creative iRoar Go, etc. However, despite their higher price tag, I'm not sure if their audio quality is as good as cheaper 2.0 options such as Creative T20 and T15, which are still reasonably small.

      There is an upgraded version "T40 or T20 series II" ... I am using T40 ii , as its just USD$10 more than T20ii at the time of purchase. Both are some of the better or might be the best 2.0 compact PC speaker around with a small footprint.

      @@heavybizness I got it last year 2018, and I think it is discontinued model already. There is a replacement it seems for the T50W , which is the T100 ( sg.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-t100 ). I think the R1280T shld sound better due to the physical size being much larger, I did consider Edifier and Mackie speakers but in the end, I can't as I needed one with a smaller footprint due to my desk size limitation. However the T50W is pretty good for the size and price. I live in Singapore where creative is from, so T50W was selling only for USD110.
