A few ways that may help you if you want to become a airline pilot. 1.join the air cadets. It's a millitary organisation but if you join it Dosent mean you have to be in the RAF or the USAF. Flying is free (well you have to pay subs but yeah) and paying £12 a month (that's the price on my squadron) is a lot cheaper than £60+ per lesson if you buy it. You will get a feeling for flying and know how to fly small aircraft. 2.do your research, If you learn how different parts of a plane works will help you in your writing tests. Personally I want to be a thyphoon pilot in the RAF ( i would be a a-10 pilot of I was American but :P ) 3.take every opportunity, if you have a opportunity to go into the cockpit of a plane, do it. Hope this helps Oh and do well in school
We had a lady pilot, on our holiday flight last year no problem with that, but when we got to our destination airport, we had to wait over an hour, whilst they brought a male pilot out, to park the plane
If your inbound aircraft is late, how do you manage to complete a proper preflight, cockpit set up and briefing, as well as clean the cabin and cross seatbelts before departaure? Do you check destination weather and alternate weather before or after cleaning out the seat back pockets?
APU is a smal turbine (not 4 thrust) torque (rotation) it provides electrical power & air for engine start & airconditioning w the air packs. It's auxiliary when engines aren't running but the pilot will keep it on just for emergency on take off or landing. Airplanes also have the RAT (ram air turbine) is a propeller type, it provides hydraulic power if lost on the engines hydr. pumps it will help deploy the landing gear & move essential flight controls. It's always stowed so u won't see it.
@jbjumpback: For the manual extension of the gear...the belts are what allow the gear to drop when the main gear selector handle fails to lower the gear by electrics/hydraulics.
They are called night wand's buddy :) I don't know if they call them anything different elsewhere, but that's what I have in my aircraft maintenance notes :)
Reading some of the comments on here, it's pretty disappointing to hear such sexist remarks; if someone is qualified to do a job, they can do that job. A girl can be either a good or bad pilot, same as us guys. My instructor up till the end of private licence training was a beautiful 24 year old girl who was one of the best instructors I've ever had. It's 20fucking14 now people, if you can't accept that everyone deserves an equal chance then we don't need you up there.
I don't know about female pilots but gives me a smile when I see 1 in the cockpit when I'm going to a gate call but honestly I have the biggest respect to a female A&P mechanic.... I salute u my sistas ya'll know what we do and if u haven't gotten hydraulic fluid on your eyes yet u haven't beeing baptised yet lol.... happens to the best.
@aroundtheclock I see. Well I can tell you as a former Airport Authority employee who used to clear snow off of and inspect runways, taxiways and aprons, Westjet is superior to AC. Their pilots and ground crew are friendly as well as appreciative of the work we would do. Plus Westjet treats their employees and customers far superior than AC does. I don't know much about Porter so I can't comment. But in the end You gotta do what works for you.
I've loved commercial aviation since before I could read and write. Pilot was what I always knew I would be but the life in the airlines continues to deteriorate and I feel that pursuing aviation will not allow me to make an impact on my community or achieve happiness. But I'll always love aviation, I'm just reluctant to go for a career in aviation. But hey, if a unique opportunity reveals itself to me then maybe I'll go for it. But the traditional route is not enticing.
Nope, as long as your vision can be corrected to 20/20 with corrective lenses or Lasek Eye Surgery, you can acquire your Class 1 medical certificate. Only if you cannot acquire 20/20 vision with any sort of correction you may not fly. It's not a deal breaker to wear glasses but in some countries it still is. In Canada and the United States as long as it can be corrected, you're good but I'm not quite sure about the military. They still may have the restriction though in the military...
what i know about west jet is that when you are a pilot for west jet your not allowed to take the plane off autopilot. like thats no fun at all. like i know for air canada or air transat that they let the pilots hand fly the planes. but west jet only allowing to be autopilot is no fun at all
Dream yes, but in one of the most crowded countries in Europe with even more crowded skies flying is €500+ per hour(for small stuff, bigger is more expensive). And then you need someone to instruct you, not a bargain either. A full license for the big stuff with passengers is €450.000 and climbing(as gasprices increase). Even if you sell your apartment you can't manage that here. I only fly a microlite and even that requires a mass amount of paperworks and thousands.
Title is misleading....80% of the video was about their mechanics...and the actual pilot part was just a quick walk around and pre-start...change the title of the video
I didn't make it as a pilot.I started "ab initio".I failed to do my "first solo". Does that mean I am an idiot? Is it advisable for someone like me to try again or is flying just not for me? I was doing my training in England and unfortunately the English weather didn't do me any favors.
I am American, and I'm not neglecting what our British allies have done for us. However, if you think that what comes out of America is war, religion and oppression, you are more than a bit uneducated with our History, our Government, and all the things that make us this great country today.
when you've been on an aircraft especially a 737 which can last 11 hours in the air without refueling with little option to sleep i think it is fair the pilots don't have to clean up I'd be wanting to get some sleep.
i don't fly any canadian airline cause it cost 3 times as much in the states--but canadians are used to gettin up tha wazzu when it comes to pricing--besides who wants to visit the north pole anyway--everytime i turn around canadians are comin to nevada or arizona....
I'd much rather be in a Marine Air Wing, pulling 6G turns @ 700mph, climbing from 10,000 feet to 30,000 feet in less than 20 seconds with full throttle and afterburners.
Congrats alhfgsp, good choice. FYI, a high school grad you will be enlisted and only able to work on AC or be a crew member on one (i.e. C130). You will have to get your college degree and become and officer to be a pilot. Either is an excellent career choice and all the best to you.
+BloodstainedSinner You forget to mention eating in the Mess tent, dodging scorpions and capital sized spiders in your sleeping bag. Either two can rule or dry as a Muslim.Freezing at night, burning a' day. and then you are on.. F## STANDBY all day.. like yesterday. like the day before.. and like the last two weeks before that.. no thank you my friend... I choose a civilian life now. But I do have all the respect and homage to who ever want to continue serving at the front for us!
They may have passed some exams but that does not always mean they would be as skillful as dealing with an emergency situation as other qualified people may be. I think this one is a judgment call.
@ny1fanta no you dont understand airline schedules. you go out for 4 days then you're off for 4 days. there are no "days of the week".....all that for some of the lowest wages in the world.
@easyamp123 Bald. The jet I fly never seems to wear evenly between the tires. Until it wears through the tread and starts showing threads, it's good to go!
Just a question, is it your eyes? Because as of now they're adjusting the regulations. If it's because you don't know how to start, go to a college like Central Washington University that has a bond with a nearby airfields for their commercial piloting degree. And if it's that you can't find a job then you should go to different countries that have other airlines to choose from.
Straight and level for 18 hours. You must be proud. Take over the controls at 300 ft to flare to land? you must also be proud. Press the keypad on your FMS, that's hard. You might be able to program the auto coupled approach but you sure can't hand fly an ILS to save yourself? I should be backing you up because you are an operational airline pilot, but sorry, I agree, you join the airlines? you hand in your wings. And the life span of aircraft is way longer than 10 years. I fly 1980s aircraft.
*It's always good to know the many things that are addressed are handled with special care!* *Great video, thanks!*
This is a great video for those who aren't in the aviation industry.
This video barely has anything to do with a daily life of an airline pilot it's just talking about airplane maintenance
Becoming a westjet pilot is definitely one of my goals in life
How is it going so far?
@@AeroInspire during this pandemic, it's further than ever
How is it going now?
@@Andy-sw6fn Not for westjet but for a cargo company in the US
@@MAU04NC your a commercial pilot now?

Great and informative documentary about maintenance and inspection
Glad you liked it!
We had a lady pilot, on our holiday flight last year no problem with that, but when we got to our destination airport, we had to wait over an hour, whilst they brought a male pilot out, to park the plane
Errrr I was just making a joke.
Wasn`t funny
Yes it was, even our female pilot found it funny.
hahahaha damn wtf :D
Don Cross Thats wasn't funny I a a male and I think women are just as good as we are at things.

+krelshell4 a day in the life of plane maintenance and a bit of a pilot talking.
i know a a380 pilot, a340 pilot, and a md80 pilot. and they all love their job.
This is the best airline ever!
That is very motivating! Thank you, you have given me a lot of motivation.

It doesn't matter if you have IFR equipment in your aircraft. If you do not know how to cross check it and the instrument's errors to safely navigate
great video and thanks a lot sir..........
Wow what a production!
Great production!
What a great video! Specially as it's a plane we have all been on.
I sat and watched this in Florida - I'd never heard of it before...
Very nice video. But i would love to see the full episode of this, can anyone advise me where can i buy theaviators episodes?
Thanks,
James.
Wow... Just realized I'm blessed to live in Sweden.
What happen to The Aviators? Loved watching this show.
you deserve my thumps up
Whoa that FO is ridiculously pretty :D
Fit Canadian FOs FTW!
Just makes you realize how simple, though hard flying is
Just for my curiosity, what type of aircraft has belts as part of the landing gear extend or retract system?
what tv network is this show on??? great vid!
Day of a life of a airline pilot in a nutshell
Paperwork, Takeoff, Fly, Land, Paperwork, Takeoff, Fly, Land i.e...
excellent video.

The title is misleading. There was very little time showing airline pilots at work.
Hey whats up with the left outer tire at 2:18 ? is it really bald or smaller or something, looks different than the other. Thanks
Can TheAviators see anything with all the rose color on their glasses? I understand putting the best foot forward, but really?
...to replace any belts and filters,
What belts need to be replaced?
great TV program!
Did they say the engine lasts for around 20,000 cycles? What's a cycle? Is that just the length of a flight, or flying hours?
Nope, as long as your vision can be corrected to 20/20 with corrective lenses or Lasek Eye Surgery, you can acquire your Class 1 medical certificate. This video should be titled "A Day in the Life of an Airline Mechanic". The actual pilot duties don't start until 5:02
What season or episode is this from? Im trying to find the full episode on Itunes
Umm.. forgot to ask, how much mass does 747's full tank fuel capacity add on the weight of the plan?
4 on 4 off. good job for a regional FO, sounds like a dream come true! :P
+Rico van Dijk I doubt its always like that. 6 on 2 off usually.
grooming the cabin between flights ? Do pilots even have the time to do that??? Chapeau !
+Al Bee 4 times a day. Every day...
@TheAviatorsTV Ok....so where is the entire episode?
I love her voice :)

that's the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) exhaust.
does anyone know where to find all these episodes
Looks like fun!
One should know about the life of Airline Pilots in a day.It is worth watching.
R.Dorairajan, Dy.G.M. (Com) Rtd., Indian Airlines Ltd.

Better title: A Day in the Life of airline maintenance personnel and a first officers preflight duties
BTW in my previous comment I was referring to never getting the time off to go home NOT that you would crash.
Title is misleading....80% of the video was about their mechanics...and the actual pilot part was just a quick walk around and pre-start...change the title of the video
Oh and if your into this type of stuff, try some sims like DCS and FSX, they are insanely realistic
no they arent
I think the real life thing is more realistic.
I didn't make it as a pilot.I started "ab initio".I failed to do my "first solo". Does that mean I am an idiot? Is it advisable for someone like me to try again or is flying just not for me? I was doing my training in England and unfortunately the English weather didn't do me any favors.
I hope pilots are never trained to become too reliant on computers
Aw, damn it. Had I known this was a canadian TV show I wouldn't have clicked on this video.

Cycle is a one flight - one take-off and one landing
Landing and take-off procedures, perhaps?
I'm planning on being a pilot and I wouldn't mind. Plus I've stayed and helped pick up trash on a 767 before.
Pilots cleaning the cabin??? Whaaaaat!
Sergio Buño well I do that on an west jet plane really I have seen then
im also studying aviation course
hell yeah for westjet :D
Did I hear that right? Boundary Bay?!
What channel is this
the best way to get their is to get in contact with your local flight school, have you ever thought about that? :-)
Actually, i read that British Airways pays £32,000-£130,000 for pilots, co-pilots and flight engineers.
Very nice...
I'd much rather be in a Marine Air Wing, pulling 6G turns @ 700mph, climbing from 10,000 feet to 30,000 feet in less than 20 seconds with full throttle and afterburners.
BloodstainedSinner I'm 17 years old going into aviation for the Marine Corps after I graduate high school. That's the life to have!
Congrats alhfgsp, good choice. FYI, a high school grad you will be enlisted and only able to work on AC or be a crew member on one (i.e. C130). You will have to get your college degree and become and officer to be a pilot. Either is an excellent career choice and all the best to you.

Really old also 737 800 MAX with WiFi
They may have passed some exams but that does not always mean they would be as skillful as dealing with an emergency situation as other qualified people may be. I think this one is a judgment call.
well said
As I said it is an emergency back up just in case the standard hydraulics fail to lower the gear
Cockpit crew cleaning the cabin?!? We're going to be up serving drinks next.
Beauty with brains!
speak for yourself in the US... Our regionals here in Western Australia on on between 50 - 150k. I know a guy flying Metro's for 100k+ a year.
Why has the pilot taken helium?
Can wait to enter flight school in the fall
Airports now have hotels that you cannot even dream of living in. :)
would you mind telling me how??? so then i can be a pilot too?
@ny1fanta no you dont understand airline schedules. you go out for 4 days then you're off for 4 days. there are no "days of the week".....all that for some of the lowest wages in the world.

yearly Salary for FO in canada?

It is so easy to be an airliner pilot c or Above in your GCSE'S (5) EASY!!!!!
Good luck
