Going to UCL in September to read History, Politics and Economics (undergrad). Long time dream uni is Oxford where my father studied, but I got rejected from there. That was utterly heartbreaking, especially because I went there for his graduation many years ago and was convinced I would be able to study there too. I’m from Mauritius, a tiny developing tropical island with a population of 1.2 million. I attended a state school. I don’t know any UCL alumni here. I just hope that I love my time in London / UCL and that I feel at home.
Oxford Mari bon sa! But UCL is really good as well. I might be going there to do Mechanical Engineering September. If your going to a good uni and from mauritius your already in a very small minority, like maybe 5000 others out there so it's really special even if you don't get into oxford.
I’ve applied to the same course as you!! Just need the grades now! Dw UCL is a great uni, very diverse and well known. You’ll defo feel like home! The course is very exciting, very unique compared to what’s offered in other universities! Best wishes.
I go to one of the "University of London" universities and I'm always at Senate House (SOAS) and UCL so I can relate to these guys. Yes, many of the international students in UCL keep to themselves and their own groups. It's a very big university but people are generally quite cliquey there.
I'm a UCL graduate and I will not argue on the fact that UCL is diverse, but on certain courses there is a huge diversity drop and its really hard to navigate when you're a POC from a state school (like I am) so that dampened my experience there. Also, it's really hard to mingle with people from other courses as well.

May Bell I'm studying English at UCL atm, and yes, the department is unfortunately not very diverse (staff and students). I'm an international student, Hispanic and Asian, and I definitely notice it. However, the course itself is amazing! I did not expect to read so many texts written by people of colour, or have frequent discussions about race, colonialism, gender, sexual orientation, etc. I have loved my time at UCL so far, and think the English department and course are amazing, so if you have any questions just ask!
I got rejected from my dream degree at my dream university (UCL - the Arts and Sciences degree) but they offered me the Sociology and the Politics of Science degree instead... which i don't really want to do as I wanted to focus on humanities and art, but it's UCL and I really want to go there lol
It appears that LSE and UCL are so highly rated because of their research. But in terms of what is actually relevant for undergrads, they generally underperform (see course satisfaction measures on Unistats). There are alternatives outside of London with just as good of a reputation that provide a superior undergrad education and student experience. Although, an exception within London appears to be Imperial. It performs well in terms of undergrad teaching, in addition to being a research powerhouse (which typically surpasses Oxbridge), and of course, it's a name that is highly reputable to employers. A true Oxbridge competitor.
@@sultanofsomaliland9332 In terms of "level of students" St Andrews, Durham, Edinburgh, Imperial are some examples of unis whose students have higher UCAS points (i.e. A-Level grades) than LSE and UCL. And employability would hardly be any different.
Anonymous I’d agree with Imperial but the others may seem similar on paper but in reality they don’t compare. The three London aswell as Oxbridge have vast greater employability and standard of students because they attract top talent from all across the world. Many international students I know haven’t even heard of Durham.
