Like 5 seconds of acoustic piano haha... i love it. I came to listen for piano sounds but got a thorough listen to everything else i could get out of the instrument. Good stuff man!
Wow, you are amazing. Getting wonderful sounds from this keyboard. Thanks for the performance/demo, showing what this is capable of. I have one on the way, and this video makes me more excited to get it. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes for your continued success.
Wow! Very interesting Demo! Just played this Baby at Justmusic in Berlin today. It’s by far More than a Digital Organ. Great vibes! Especially to all other Videos related to this Instrument. Great playing! 😊
Because Organ is the most under used keyboard. When you hear a master play it live it rattles your bones but can also make the most awesome pads with shimmer reverb.
I would love something like an updated YC30/YC45 even if VA and not true analog. Just needs to be exclusively focused on organ, nothing else. The Reface YC is on the right lines, just make it bigger and better.
I think the refaces are more popular now as they are priced at a better level, and the pure CS-80 trolling of the teaser campaign has worn off a little... however we now have big boy versions of the YC, CP and DX (MODX/Montage).... the big boy CS might be fun
I haven't seen a price drop in the Refaces unfortunately. In Europe they're still all more than 300 Euro. I think they should be well under 300 if you compare them w/ their Korg competitors. Having said that, I'm very impressed w/ my Hammond clone Reface. I can even find a sweet spot for its horrible distortion effect, ha ha. ;)
I love Yamaha, but I think the main problem with the YC 61 is that for the same price you could buy a Hammond Sk-1 or a Crumar Mojo; two keyboards that are masters of organ and keyboard simulation (no one is buying this for the strings patches, right?) This does have FM features, which are pretty enticing, especially given that there hasn't been an easy to control FM synth. But, from what I can tell, the depth available doesn't come remotely close to what can be done on Reface DX or a TX81Z. Did I miss something? I really do want to like it. Organ, EP, and FM are what I most want out of a keyboard, but I couldn't see myself dropping more than $900 it.
May be two years old of a comment but, most people complain about the piano and keys sounds on the SK-1 not cutting it like a Nord or this does. However, there's no real argument from ORGAN players that the Hammond SK-1 and SK series is pretty much the top of the line for pure Organ tones and a leslie sim.
One of the main reasons the refaces were not popular was the price. It’s a competitive market. If they lower the price they will probably sell enough to make a serious profit. It’s a pandemic and unfortunately high end equipment that is perceived to be overpriced will be put on the backburner as a non necessity for the next year or so. P.S. I own two refaces, they are fantastic
@@BigBadWolf.............. Same thing with the Elektron Model:Samples. Started out at 400 bucks. Then they dropped the price to 300 and did a firmware upgrade that added sample locks and a bunch of other stuff that made it better. The combination of price drop and feature upgrades took it from something that didnt sell to something that did...
Awesome! Question though, does it has a Vox Continental and Farfisa sounds adjustable with drawbars? I wonder what is the price range of this instrument, really nice sounds.
Yeah that'd make it or break it for me. Vox and Farfisa are my jam,. Im happy with my electro 6, but im curious... the simple fact it has pitch bend and mod makes me hope it could cut it in other depts as a replacement (maybe its a good controller too? the electro is shit)
@@vforvillain77 I do not think this has farfisa sounds, in any case, your electro 6 beats this one for sure. The only reason I sold mine is the lack of sequencer or arp
I’m impressed. Yeah the rotary is a little weak, but other commenters say it’s been fixed. Aside from that, the sounds are amazing. Could prompt me to ditch my JP8000, along with a couple other boards
Hey Jim, I really liked the run-through you did here; how many of these are stock patches (even if lightly tweaked) and how many/which ones are originals? I really appreciate its inherent versatility and musicality; looks like it can handle a lot of situations (also appreciated the Pink Floyd-like textures you have a few minutes into the video).
Felt compelled to comment... surprising synth aspects. Solid on the E.P. front and nice journey in the playing. The not so good? The rotary effect. Is it just me or has Yamaha failed to hit the mark there? Maybe it requires editing. I don't know but to my ears, caca.
It fits in well in a live situation - you don't want too much bottom end filling out the sound spectrum in a band. Just got mine and have to say I love it :-)
@@vforvillain77 Can't help but think...Uli. My Neutron, DM 12-D, RD-8 and MS-1 are all built rock solid and sound fantastic. If the evil B can do it, why not the evul Y?
I just purchased one of these, as an upgrade to my Roland VR-09. If you want an low budget alternative to the YC61, check out the VR-09. I have had good experience with mine.
I know what you mean - I mean, it does, but not really; I think it's that some of the pieces are kinda Vangelis style, and that ring mod certainly helps :-)
@@sonicstate Regarding MPE and Organ/Piano functionality. Presumably the other parameters such as vibrato and draw bar manipulation (for Organ) could be manipulated using the extra articulation techniques provided by MPE such as sliding and wiggling the 'keys' on a Seaboard and or expressive E osmose. Perhaps fx such as delay and reverb could be triggered on or off by sliding up on a key or that same 'Slide' could introduce a cello or synth into the mix, making the piano less piano'y but more versatile.
@@sonicstate I play EP and organ sounds using my LinnStrument all the time. You don't have to use MPE for those sounds, and the LinnStrument can easily be configured to switch between MPE and one-channel mode with the press of a button. The LinnStrument can also be configured to send custom CC messages from each of its axes; to which end, there are certainly parameters worth changing with expressive control, even when using piano and organ sounds. In Bitwig, for instance, I can vibrato individual notes on a piano, modulate individual notes on an organ, etc. That said, there is also a synth engine in the YC, so... MPE aside, however, I'd still prefer a YC module, if only so I can use my own controller. Cheers!
It's pitched as a stage keyboard. Most people will use the presets and some tweaks with the knobs. That said. The Forte is pitched the same, but has a the whole VAST engine in there, plus FM. When you see those groups of sliders on a keyboard you know it's a players board, those are for organ drawbars.
You could sit down with this thing and not dig into it much at all and be able to operate most of what's going on. It can do a bit more if you dig under the hood and set up foot controllers and things to do stuff, but right out of the box most anyone who has used electronic gear is going to be able to figure it out without a manual
I would really love to know what you think sounds great if this sounds like junk to you. I want the best options available and will pay for it. i've played and heard a lot of boards, and I think this board sounds amazing. But, if you can recommend something vastly superior, I'm all ears.
