To hear someone speak so kindly and lovingly about Joan Crawford is like feeling a breath of fresh air. Many people only know her legend from a horrid tell-all book and equally horrid bio-pic, but I feel that maybe some people HAVE to believe that women who achieve it all must be conniving and vindictive and abusive to obtain it. Was Joan like that in real life? I don't know. I do know that my mother and I met Miss Crawford back in 1970 in Erie, PA. My mother said that Joan stood and greeted every single person in line and shook hands and said a kind word to them. When she came to me (I was about six months old) and she held me. My mother said that there wasn't any unkindness or weariness during the whole meet-n-greet. Nobody is that good of an actress.
Because SHE had good experiences with Joan and she seemed to be a very sweet and naive person. Joan was humble and on her 'good behavior' during this film because her whole career was riding on it, so she saw the best of her. Others saw other versions. ;)

One of the true giants of Hollywood's golden age. She along with Norma Shear, Gable and Harlow was a dominant actor during the 30's at MGM, It's a shame she never got an Oscar nomination during that time and didn't win one until she was with Warner Bros. I love her early movies, especially the pre-code ones. Hollywood sure had great movie stars at one time.
Joan was so beautiful it hurt, and so talented and underrated. People speak about her as if they know all this horrible things, every story has a side and a woman as beautiful and talented, successful and famous as her will always be hated. Queen of the screen and the most glamorous love you Joan.
I don't think she was very beautiful at all. She looked harsh. And she aged terribly with those scary eyebrows. And I don't think she was that talented. Not more than anyone else. She was very uncomfortable to watch when she was not acting. She seemed totally fake.
Jacqueline Larsen Lol, Ignorant nonsense. She is considered one of the legendary beauties of Hollywood and she was recognized by the American Film Institute as the 10th greatest actress of all time. Enjoyed this tribute from Ann Blyth for Joan Crawford. I think those who believe that Christina was abused are triggered by their own parenting and its probably the same reason I don't think she was abused. My parents were at least as strict as Joan Crawford and I wouldn't be alive if I had disrespected my folks the way Christina in her own book admits to disrespecting her mother. Just sayin

Joan worked very hard to get where she wound up - a top star . I think her feud with Norma Shearer stemmed from the fact that she resented Norma getting parts easily in her career do to her inside connections in the business ( husband )
Ingrid Bergman, Barbara Stanwyck, Ava Gardner, Linda Darnell, Greta Garbo, Claire Trevor, the list goes on. Of course, it's just a matter of taste which is as variable as there are people. and Ann Blyth, get thee to a nunnery before it's too late.
Rene Russo in the Thomas crown affair breath taking but joan in most studio black and white stills is iconic. Beyond beautiful. Almost a super natural beauty. Tall, leggy, blue eyed. And a very confident grin. Made her irresistible. And yes she was tough and couldn't hide anyth.
Well, Bette didn't much care for "looks" [she'd be the first to tell you that she was no beauty] but for "acting" & Joan was beautiful and the ultimate movie star: they were cut out differently much to the satisfaction of both their millions (literally) of fans world-wide
Even if every single word of Mommie Dearest were true -- and I honestly don't know -- I still love Joan more than Bette, who I also consider a great talent.

Notice how the clip of Veda in the preview at 6:40 is NOT the same shot that's used in the actual film (at 0:20), as she criticizes her mother. Previews commonly used outtakes that weren't in the final cut of the movie, and this is an excellent example of that. Not only is a completely different view of Veda, but her tone of voice is different as well.
I never understood the titles on the trailer - all that "intimate affairs of an indiscreet woman" stuff. . It's absolutely nothing about that at all !!
She was a good actress because she acted 24/7 she was afraid of the truth of her past coming out, difficult to get to know but very loyal if she loved you,she loved Gable,he loved no one but Lombard
Will you cut that Christina Crawford crap? Please, we will never know for sure! I wouldn't trust a woman who published a book right after her mother's death like wanting to have the last word and selling the rights to make a picture! Sounds more like a money-hungry woman than a victim of abuse.
Christopher Crawford, unlike his sister, refers to their mother by her initials "J.C." and will use expletives in describing her. Otherwise, the siblings’ view of life with mother is very similar. "She was not a mother," said Christopher, 35. A lineman with Long Island Electric, his bitterness is apparent "She was not a family. I honestly to this day do not believe that she ever cared for me." www.joancrawfordbest.com/latimes78oct29.htm
