Female Pastors, Cultural Chaos: Dr. Albert Mohler Breaks Down Situation Facing SBC as Meeting Begins

  • Dr. Albert Mohler Jr., a prominent theologian and president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, detailed what he believes is the most pressing issue facing the church today and said it is "the bottom-line question of faithfulness." "Is the church going to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ - stand by the entirety of biblical truth?" he asked. "Everything else basically is derivative of that great challenge, and you can say that it's been the perpetual challenge of the church - and will be until Jesus comes."
Throughout church history, Mohler said there are times the faith is "tested from many different sides, on many different issues, many different dimensions at one time." He believes the faith faces one such moment today. Mohler also said he's "hopeful" but also "honest" about the massive issues facing Southern Baptists as the denomination gathers this week for its annual meeting.
"I don't think anybody's got an easy way forward," Mohler told CBN's Faithwire last month during the National Religious Broadcasters Convention. "If you're serious about doing anything, you're going to have controversy." The faith leader said the Southern Baptist Convention's (SBC) 2023 Annual Meeting & Pastors’ Conference, which kicks off today and concludes Wednesday in New Orleans, is unfolding during a time of deep disagreements within Baptist circles.
"Some of them are kind of surface-level [issues]; some of them are deeper," Mohler said. "And I think we're now at some deeper ... issues of disagreement, particularly over women serving as pastors, particularly over how to approach these big cultural issues [and] how to speak publicly about them." The issue of female pastors is one of the most publicized controversies after the SBC's Executive Committee voted to oust five churches, including California megachurch Saddleback Church, founded by Rick Warren.
Saddleback and one other church are appealing the decision at this week's meeting. Mohler said he's a "conservative confessionalist" and believes everything comes down to the inherency of Scripture and the importance of defending the faith. "I don't think there's any way to make the world like us more," he added. "We need not to be obnoxious. Yes, we need to be kind and respectful, but the fact is the world's not going to like us a whole lot more for being respectful."
Watch Mohler discuss a plethora of other faith and culture topics as well.

Each one was able to use The Bible to show that they were right in their interpretations by quoting verse. If the other two didn't come by, it wouldn't have been as confusing. Ultimately, regardless of who our favorite past or contemporary theologians are, we should remember Isaiah 2:22- ‘Put not your trust in man, who has but a breath of air in his nostrils; on what account is he?’

I’ve also heard him criticize himself as a middle child who tried tried help people get along and instinctually avoided conflict. I also thought he should have took more of a stand on a lot of issues, but to my frustration he considered his ministry a unique one, almost a gateway church, and he played the part. - He was most definitely a Christian. I don’t think I know anyone who was as consistently in the Word and as prayerful. He was kind of on another level in that regard, like stories you hear about Luther or Edwards. In my personal estimation he was a spiritual giant.

    2 Timothy 3:16-17
    English Standard Version
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work.
    1 Timothy 2:11-15
    English Standard Version
11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

I'm writing a book myself about Gender confusion in animals. It is more prevalent than one might think. 365 days ago, my pit bull came home drunk one night. He expressed to me that he thought he was really a chicken. I didn't waste any time; I immediately started feeding him chicken feed and put him on bark blockers. He started growing tail feathers. Now he sleeps in the hen house. Today, 365 days later, he started laying "pooched eggs"! I quickly taped his picture to a can of beer so he could celebrate! You may have a cat that jumps up on things, remember that cat might really be a monkey! Birds of a feather flock together. Don't flock with them!

I just pray that he makes the right decisions. In his book "The disappearance of God" he has a great perspective on what is going on in the West right now and I was surprised to see his stance on issues like CRT. Interestingly enough he is also realising that the seeker friendly approach of Rick Warren is only producing numbers of fake converts.

In Ephesians Paul makes it clear that "in the spiritual realm" which is what the Church is, we do not have "bond or free," Jew or Gentile," "male or female." Male and Female designations are for marriage only. The physical aspects of the differences in men and women is soley for the marriage relationship. The man on the street is not male in anyway that applies to me, since there is no physical relationship involved; he is God's creation that I am to respect even as the female on the street is to be the same to me.
