Great idea. There’s that and then him just sprinkling them in every few vids. Nothing to crazy. Just enough for a laugh as the example in this vid is evidence of.
The second camera is much smoother, the quality and sound is good. Love the photo of the little house with the blue roof, hope it’s available in your store soon😊
I am so glad I landed on your channel. Not only do I enjoy your beautiful content, I also enjoy you! You are charming and real and most important, educational. Thank you and much respect.
Street photography, like you said, is so much more than the 'in your face' style. Lights, shapes, colour, subjects etc. and you can go about it in a similar way to you do now: finding a location and keep returning in different conditions, or perhaps more random (not to undermine the alternative in any way). I'm a street photographer, but love your travel/landscape stuff (and your personality), so would definitely welcome so more street style videos in the future. Plus, it can be so lightweight: one camera, one lens, no tripod!
What a great video..I love the way you cut in on yourself with the comments about what you thought about what youd said..Very funny indeed. STUNNING photos in this one. Really nice to watch..might refill the coffee and watch it again..Regards from New Zealand. Andrew.
Just recently started following the photography community on Twitter. Can’t believe how sick I am of looking at amazing photos of mountains and lakes, Northern lights and mountains and lakes, snowy mountains and lakes. I just feel spammed every time I open my feed. Nice to be able to get to these places and take pictures. But I’m disabled and can barely walk. If I can park somewhere and find a shot within 20 meters of the car, I’m happy. But right now, I can’t look at another landscape. Love your work.
As soon as I saw you started the video I knew where you were on your way up from Crafnant car park and heading for Lyn Geirionydd. I was thinking of your previous scouting mission when we went through to the lake. Have done this walk many times but was glad to have a lot of the grandchildren with us to push us back up over the hills to Llyn Crafnant. Your videos have taken on much more meaning to me since you moved as it is my old hunting ground of nearly 50 years. Thanks
I have followed you since the very beginning. Seems no matter what you take a picture of, it has that special spark. The video you made about 10,000 hours. I know you reached that a long time ago. Your love for photography can be seen in every photo. Diversity can be a good thing. Keep up the good work.
I have to say, I absolutely LOVE your 'street' photos even though I don't really agree with the gripe that so many outdoor/landscape photographers seem to have about summer conditions and photography... but yeah if we get to see more street photos that's great!
The second camera is far better for handholding, I thought the a7 was uncomfortable to watch. The Pocket 2's audio quality is really very good considering it's just the built in mic. Also I love the idea of going back to street photography in the Summer.
Another great video, thanks James! The parts with your future 20/20 vision editing self disagreeing with your in the fields photographer self are priceless. More of this please.
It was a treat to see your photo of Castle Stalker. I was just in the UK on holiday and took what I thought was a nice pano of it. Beautiful spot. Went back with my drone just in case...
I liked the jump cuts to you commenting on the light. Got a giggle. Great video as per usual, also the DJI is great for the walking bits. Kinda funky? But better for sure than the Sony.
Editor James cut in's made me spit my coffee... haha and Editor Jim's discussion about Jame's views on light and shadow as a huge part of his art is great!
Actually very interesting your thoughts on shooting buildings flat or at an angle - fantastic photos too! I'm also really drawn to man made objects in nature. It immediately adds context and inspires curiosity - at least in for me.
DJI Pocket is great. Personally, I would only use it for handheld videos and a tripod for videos with the big camera. The downside is only one card slot, so no real-time backup. The image is good enough in good lighting.
This gallery of buildings was quite exhilarating to look at! I would be glad to see more street photography from you. It’s funny, I quit street photography since I found the masses of pictures I shot pretty exhausting and decided to do less and more deliberate urban landscape shots instead; curious about your experiences.
We are always so judgey of ourselves, huh. I love your summer capture. The lit up hill adds depth to me, it doesn't draw your eye away. It's nice to have a bump of light! It's summertime after all! 💙📸
Agree totally, I get lost sometimes in the editing, I slowly fall into the picture and when I’m finished I think the image is much better than it really is. When I look at it again the next day, I think, oh, well it’s ok.
As always very entertaining James. DJI for me, what an amazing bit of kit it is too. And I agree on your philosophy in split second images being better sometimes than the ones you work hard for. I find that all the time.
DJI stabilization is great, and the audio is not bad either. I really enjoyed the editing in this video, and you splicing in your comments after reviewing each photo/video clip worked well.
The back and forth in the studio was amazing 😂. I definitely prefer the DJI pocket to the Sony A7 for the walking shots. The Sony was way too jittery. Yes, the quality of the DJI wasn’t quite as good but it still looked good, the sound was good and the smoothness was miles better. I love your street photography stuff as well as your outdoors photography so seeing more of that would be cool. As you say, it is probably a bit more suited to summer light as well 👍
Pocket 2 is excellent for walking shots and if you're worried about audio, DJI has a wireless mic for the Pocket 2 that is quite good and even comes with a magnetic deadcat
I greatly enjoy your videos. I too am inclined to take shots of structures and how the light plays upon them coupled with different compositions, whether it is a landscape photo or a street photo. Your sense of humor is a precious bonus for all of us that follow your videos. Just yesterday I watched another photographer mention Vero as an alternative to Instagram. Maybe after you have tried it out for awhile you could give us a review. Hang in there. Fall will be here soon.
Not sure if it was a rhetorical question, but you asked if you should do more Street/City/Urban photography. I enjoyed your Venice and Tuscany videos earlier this year (other influences include Matt Irwin and Hugh Brownstone YT channels), so my answer is Yes please!

Great video with lots of information to help me. Yeah, the DJI was surprisingly good and so is the audio. So, I’m not the only one who leaves the car door open for photos!! Good to know!

The DJI is streets ahead of the Sony. With the cottage it is incredible how a scene can change so much with the seasons. Perhaps a side on shot with the large tree as a sort of background would work.

That was funny! I love you commenting in the studio on what you say in the field. The image at 0:30 was beautiful. I like both your landscapes and urban scapes, but why you feel one works with harsh light and the other doesn't I don't understand fully. I see that different compositions are necessary for harsh light, but they can still be had. Like going outside with a prime instead of a zoom as a creative exercise. No?
Night & Day difference in favor of the DGI. The picture quality and sound are just fine. But the comparison also goes to show that one of the benefits of a Sony camera is that it obliges you to buy and use other cameras.
What I would do with a blank sky like that is to add a vignette to the sky to help add some depth and guide the viewer's eye. Or replace the sky with one from my own collection, but that only works well sometimes and not everybody is ok with doing so.
