○ Introduction to the work
Between 1717 and 1723, Johann Sebastian Bach worked as composer and Kapellmeister at the court of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen, where he led an exquisite instrumental ensemble on ceremonial and representative occasions. His overtures or overture suites were probably composed for these purposes. The suite as a series of dance movements was composed at the court of the "Sun King" Louis XIV, who was himself a passionate dancer. At the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, the new genre arrived in Germany with the prevailing enthusiasm for all things French. The suite's origins in dance music are also evident in Bach's Overture No. 1, with its dances gavotte, courante, bourrée, and so on. The musicologist Albert Schweitzer saw in them "a sunken time of grace and elegance" that Bach "saved over into our time."

Deseo destacar la maestría con que toca las cuerdas de su violín el prestigioso concertino brasileño-alemán J.M.
