- Orchestral Suite no. 1 in C major, performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, is in the style and atmosphere of the dance music written by Lully at the court of Louis the Fourteenth: a series of French stylised dances. Nowadays, we call this a suite, but at the time it was known as an Overture, or opening piece. As a tribute to the king, such a succession of dances began with a stately opening that had a remarkably staccato rhythm - to which the king could make his entrance. However, we do not know why or for whom Bach composed this and other of his instrumental pieces.

THESE PERFORMANCES BY THE NETHERLANDS BACH SOCIETY ARE BY FAR THE BEST PERFORMANCES I HAVE HEARD, JUST ASTOUNDING MUSIC PERFORMED BY A BAND OF ANGELS.
When listening to Bach I'm in awe of Bach's mind. Like Einstein his mind was working on a different plane. We can appreciate the output of JSB's mind through the pallet of notes, melodies, harmonies, counterpoint and the pure joy, a rapture that occurs when listening. When composing, Bach's mind, heart and hands were guided by the angels. Should the reader of my comment have a few moments to listen to the joy one feels when listening to his Motet's. One in particular, Komm, Jesu, Komm BWV229, is just sublime. There's no question that JSB was communicating with his god through his composition.

Ouverture = morning mood. A marvelous piece to start your day with. Starting with a wake up phase: the slow beginning let's you wake up slowly and offers you to think about your new day's goals, objectives and targets, then the fugue provides all energy you need.
Bach is great. Bach is greater thorugh Nethelands Bach Society. Thank you all musicians that took part on this miraculous endeavour in bringing Bach's work's life to uttermost perfection!
I have heard and seen many versions of this piece, but none surpass this performance so beautifully done. You can see the enthusiasm of the players in this video and you can definitely hear it as they play this piece. It is very obvious how much they are thoroughly enjoying themselves as you watch this presentation.

I'm so glad that the Netherlands Bach Society has recorded the orchestral suites. They are one of my favorite pieces by Bach, and before these recordings there weren't really good versions in TH-cam.

Bach is so natural; it's like the flow of your blood, or your breath. Another great recording of all the Bach Orchestral Suites is done by Trevor Pinnock.
This overture is simply one of the best pieces of music ever created by humankind.

Bach allie toujours légèreté , gravité , profondeur et virtuosité, passant de l'une à l'autre comme un ciel changeant. L'interprétation de la NBS est très convaincante : tempo juste , musicalité, cohérence de l'ensemble . Les musiciens nous régalent avec cette musique venue d'ailleurs , comme toujours ! What's more impressive, Bach or his music? If somehow, in the distant future, Bach's name became disassociated from his compositions people would be just as dumbfounded by it's brilliance as were the early Romantic composers who "rediscovered" it? If that future person was musical by nature would it, at times, bring them to tears and send chills through the body? Bach is a force of nature and a priceless gift to humanity. I remain in awe.

Unser Vater JS Bach for ever. Excellent performance of this ensemble. Nederland is great admirer of JS Bach as every every dilettanti in the world.
I listened all Bach suites some years ago at the "Palau de la música" in Barcelona performing by "Europa Galante" with Fabio Biondi.
A most musical and subtle performance. These suites are often performed in a way that sounds like a big jumble. This rendition undulates. Thanks!

Lebhafte und wunderschöne Aufführung dieser perfekt komponierten Orchestersuite mit gut harmonisierten und perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller historischen Instrumente. Der geniale Violinist/Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Kammerorchester im gut phrasierten Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Einfach wunderbar!

A Beethoven, en su época final; ya muchos no apreciaban sus obras. Esta claro que yo estoy hablando en un punto de vista subjetivo pero usted también ya que le respondí porque dijo: "El más grande de todos los compositores es Beethoven".

Early 1700s this music was probably getting out of fashion being quickly replaced by the Italian Concerto model. It is beyond sad that much of the music Bach wrote for the courts is lost forever :( The Brandenburg concertos survived by miracle and the Goldenberg variations were not specifically written for the court. If Bach had to compose a piece for every weekend performance, then we are talking about significant losses :(
But we have enough were we can be happy, and glad to even witness it being played

This great performance almost beats the all time reference recording of The English Concert and Trevor Pinnock. Okay, not really, but the ouverture is truely amazing.

I do not quite know how to explain the difference in quality and brilliance of The Netherlands when they play Bach. The Boys choirs for instance. even th GERMAN orchestra does not seem to find the quite right of sound that piques the bach sound and mastery. Lovely, resonant, magestic often sublime. Thankyou so much. R
