Honestly, it's no wonder Zeus is a terrible father. His father Cronus ate his siblings and tried to eat him. His grandfather Uranus, who is also is his uncle, imprisoned his father and other aunts and uncles under the Earth. His grandmother/great-grandmother Gaea spawned the father of all monsters and is fighting against him. And his great-grandparent/great-great grandparent is Chaos, a formless insane mass
Have you considered doing worst mothers in video games? Because there are plenty of them too. A recent example of one is Lusamine from Pokémon Sun and Moon. Oh sure, care more about a rare and dangerous Pokémon than your own son and daughter, because you only care for them if they're beautiful!
Not to mention, Lusamine encases these beautiful Pokémon of her's IN ICE CUBES. But that has nothing to do with being a bad mother. Though in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, she's not as malicious, probably because she wasn't as severely affected by Nihilego's poison that turned Lusamine into the monster we know her for but ONLY in SuMo. Her anime counterpart isn't that malicious either and was actually abducted by the venomous Ultra Beast. But yeah, Lusamine's a LOT worse mom than all the other moms in Pokémon who LETS their 10 year old children to travel the world and battle dangerous creatures. On a side note, Gen VII games DOESN'T have a human as a main villain, just creatures from another dimensions. Nihilego's poison turned Lusamine into beauty-obsessed bad mom and kept poisoning Lusamine's mind further with that madness. And in Ultra games Necrozma's the big threat that is gonna devour all the light it can find through the multiverse(dude, Necrozma stole Strykore's shtick).
Though, in her minor amount of defense, Lusamine was screwed up by an alien creature from another plain of existence via parasitic relationship. Adding her sadness bordering on obsession to find and re-unite with her lost husband due to their experiments on the Ultra Wormhole. I want to say that because of a possible previous encounter with Nihilego before the events of Pokémon SM she became nuts bit by bit. I know this is a major stretch and I am not blaming Nihilego, but rather this is all a result of a tragedy within a family that only got worse over time. Sure, she may not win the Best Mom Ever Award any time soon, but at least she wasn't always horrible.
Another pretty nasty video game Mama is Lilith from Darksiders 2. Lilith created a race a being known as the Nephilim. The four horsemen now being the only living members of the race in canon. While Lilith being the Mother of the four could be debated given how vehemently Death denies her being his Mother, given her choice of dialogue when we meet her, yeah. Basically she created the race, and Absalom was the first one, with Death being born/created some time later. The other three horsemen were born/created I assume several years after the Nephilim civilization was established. Since Death is among the Firstborn Nephilim(which I assume means the first created in this context), and the younger three are not. Given what the game tells us. When the Nephilim race is referred to as Death's brothers, I think they are meaning brothers in arms. When it comes to Absalom and the younger three, they hammer the sibling stuff in your face. They call each other brother or sister. So for the sake of the arguement, I'm counting the main five Nephilim in question as Lilith's children. Not the entire race. Lilith when she first created the race barely involved herself in the race's business and almost never did anything to help her children. Sure there was some involvement, but I doubt it was the good kind given who she is. Due to Lilith barely having anything to do with the race, Absalom ruled unchallenged and unquestioned. He went from a leader seeking a home for his people, to a warmonger seeking to take over everything. This would result in his younger four siblings deviating from their race and Absalom dies at Death's hands. Absalom becomes the Avatar of Chaos shortly after and goes back to his conquering nature as Corruption's main force. His younger brother Death is mentally scarred after killing his entire race. And beats himself up with the guilt he now holds for everything he did in the name of his race. This is clearly seen in the novel The Abomination Vault, which is canon btw. Not to mention that Death may actually have PTSD. Did some research after getting curious, and he does have a few symptoms from what I can tell. Death holds many secrets about the past, even from his younger siblings. Death also was forced into a leading position and does his best to lead the younger siblings, though this leads to reckless behaviour such as doing tasks alone to 'protect' them. It doesn't help that in Darksiders 2, Lilith tries and ultimately fails to manipulate Death into resurrecting the Nephilim so that her precious Prince of Darkness will have an army to wreak havoc on creation with. While we don't know if she did anything to Strife and Fury, she definitely had a hand in the events of the first game as well. When War goes to the tree of knowledge and is shown the truth, we see Abaddon being goaded by a female voice to become the destroyer. This voice sounds way too similar to Lilith to be a coincidence. Lilith had a hand in putting her youngest living child into danger and it led to the Council(the very group he pledged his loyalty to) to betray him and the other horsemen as well. And Lilith doesn't even mention what she did or show any remorse at all. Yeah Lilith from Darksiders is one terrible Mother. Wonder how much more we'll see of her horrendous parenting in the next games to come. Darksiders 3 is coming sometime this year after all.
All I can say is. Damn it Zeus. In fact, in Greek Mythology, there's a chart that says what causes most of the problems. "Zeus can't keep it in his pants."
Unfortunately, Zeus was horny. Alternatively, anytime Red talks about a story with Zeus getting busy in Misc. Myths on Overly Sarcastic Productions lmao
Yes! Thank you for putting Ghetsis on the list! Also, if you notice his Pokémon teams, his first one in Black/White was made specifically to counter N's: Hydreigon is fast enough to outpace the Legendary Dragon, has Focus Blast because most of N's team is weak to Fighting, and has Surf to counter Archeops. Ghetsis likely forced his Hydreigon to evolve prematurely and in Black 2/White 2, he has Frustration at full power, emphasizing how abusive he is.
Adding to that, In Black and White, Hydreigon knows all special attacks, Dragon Pulse, Surf, Fire Blast and Focus Blast (representing a more tactical and clever approach, as it was bred to sweep N's whole team with a super effective move for each of them. Dragon Pulse for N's Dragon, Focus Blast for Zoroark, Klinklang, Carracosta and Vanilluxe, Fire Blast for Vaniluxe and Klinklang, and Surf for Archeops). And in B2W2, it knows all physical attacks: Dragon Rush, Crunch, Rock Slide and Frustration AND it's holding a life orb (which powers up attacks at the expense of a small portion of HP each turn). (This represents that Ghetsis has snapped and is now resorting to a more aggressive approach).
That or Ghetsis caught a Hydreigon in the wild. Just like what Paul did several times in the anime (Funny how he tried to use Infernape's trauma to bring out its potential. As a side note. It's funny Ash got two Fire types in a row that were treated horribly by former trainers in a row)
5. Didn't see that coming.... 4. Was waiting for Heihachi. Especially after the "A Man that can eat stone axes!" line 3. Waiting for Ghetsis too. He's a prick of a father. 2. STILL haven't played any of the Ace Attorney games (Want to though) but Manfred's not cool. 1. Was NOT expecting the God of Olympus to be on this list. And at #1 at all.
Basically goes high and low and trying to overcome the will of the universe so his daughter doesn't have to cry again. Sure he may not have gotten her a present for her birthday but god damn he probably loves her more then any father could. (And not meaning the incest route either.)
@@glacierwolf2155 I agree. Because of Chakravartin's manipulation of the Seven Deties, Mitra had to suffer for 13300 years. Anyone would agree that that is way too long.
SNIFF... that ending speech was... freaking beautiful. this is one of my favorite countdowns now. the diverse list of characters and good humor already put it on my list, but that speech at the end sealed the deal
*Kazuya arrives in Smash Bros and gets teamed up with a random character* Kazuya: My dad threw me into a volcano but I survived. Link: That's funny cuz my dad *is* a volcano. Kazuya: *looks at link with a confused expression then turns to the player* Can I have a partner who *isn't* a complete weirdo?
The parents of the Warriors of Hope from the Ultra Despair Girls game were all terrible, both mother and father, and they don't even show up in the game. You had the basic alcolohic abusive father, but then there were some really unpleasant things, like refusing to show any affection, leaving Jataro twisted to the point he can't cope unless everybody hates him, or how Nagisa was treated like a lab experiment on what happens when you push a child beyond their breaking point with drugs, medical equipment, and threats of harm. I'm not even sure if I should mention Kotoko's treatment, it was pretty horrendous stuff.
You know, seeing Leo in the thumbnail for part one it makes me realize that FE Fates if full of terrible Dads. With a few exceptions I remember most of the conflicts in the children's paralogues coming about from one form or another of neglect by their Dads. Either literal neglect, not keeping a good enough eye on them, or just being a generally crappy/forgetful parent (I am looking straight at the both of you, Saizo and Hinata) there is a bunch of ways most of these Dad's fail.
From what I've played so far, the one character from Fates that I can say is a pretty awesome dad is Xander. Despite being the crowned prince, he takes the time to send missives to his son, sets a good example, visits him as often as he can, legitimately recognizes his folly for being inattentive despite the situation, and his support conversations with his son are just wonderful, especially the A support.
Forget "Fates", we have a perfectly good, despicable father in an earlier FE game - King Desmond of Bern from "Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword". How people like Big Boss and Ruto's dad (forget his name already, sorry) make it on, but not Desmond who is an utterly LOATHSOME prick, especially to his son but also to the people around him... Let me list the ways. He resents Zephiel for being so talented in every field of study - swords, books, falconry, hunting, you name it - because Desmond was never excellent at anything. He hates the fact that his legitimate, MALE heir is the offspring of a marriage he didn't want - to Lady Hellene of Etruria, whom he does everything he CAN to spite during their marriage. His mistress, the woman he truly loved, he could not marry; and he resents the fact that the child she bore him was a daughter, so Guinevere isn't just illegitimate but she's also a GIRL and so is less eligible than her half-brother... After having forced his legal wife and trueborn son out of the palace (they live in a manse), he keeps his mistress and daughter at home with him... If that were not enough, though, the measures Desmond takes to ensure that Zephiel will not be named heir at the boy's own coming-of-age surely cement him as one of the worst fathers in all of fiction. Firstly, he hires the Black Fang to steal the Fire Emblem, Bern's national treasure, and keep it until after Zephiel's coming-of-age ceremony passes - because without the Emblem, his son cannot be secured as his heir. He does this primarily to spite Hellene, but also to sate his envy of his son. But wait, it gets BETTER! He also hires the Black Fang to have Zephiel ASSASSINATED the night before his son's coming-of-age - to clean up loose ends, to remove his son from his life, have no obstacles for his daughter, etc. Around this very time, we also see just how terrible he is to his children personally: while he professes to love his daughter, and does, it is a VERY slefish and twisted love; when Zephiel comes to visit Guinevere while she's ill, and SAYS he's worried, Desmond accuses him of wishing his little sister was DEAD. He refuses to listen to Zephiel's pleas that he would never wish her harm, claiming that his son and wife want nothing but to steal his throne from him - Zephiel doesn't actually CARE about the throne, he just wants his family to be together (including both his parents and his sister, but he ALSO wants Guinevere's mother to be part of the family. D'aaaw!), but Desmond ignores this completely. When Guinevere comes up looking for her brother, wanting to play with him, she gets upset (as toddlers do) that he's gone (after Desmond DEMANDED he leave), and leaves a baby fox that Zephiel brought her as a gift with her father while she looks for her brother. Desmond... does not take this well; he calls a soldier to his side, orders the fox kit KILLED discretely, and rants to himself about how Zephiel is "trying to steal Guinevere's love" from him... Yeesh! Thankfully, Zephiel is saved by Eliwood's ragtag army who also brought back the Fire Emblem, so Zephiel can be named heir, and in the process they also help Hellene realise how obsessed even she became with the succession to Zephiel's detriment - she expresses a wish to Zephiel to make amends with Desmond, and accept his daughter and mistress, too; Zephiel is optimistic that they can make him understand with time and live as a happy family. Alas, however, this story doesn't have a happy ending... Because all that I described, as you must know, is in the one game... there's also the SEQUEL, "Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade" (which is set 20 years later) to consider - and at this point, Desmond is DEAD, yet his influence and toxic legacy is felt throughout... Desmond's spite didn't end with the above events, oh no. Roughly 5 years before the sequel starts proper, Desmond reaches out to Zephiel about making amends, and they dine together - this, however, was actually a ruse to make a SECOND attempt to kill his son, this time via poisoning. And this time he succeeds... or so he thinks. General Murdock, loyal to the prince since Zephiel was a boy, saves and nurses him back to health in secret; but the damage has already been done. Whether it's from brain damage from the poisoning (an actual thing, yes), his growing cynicism with his father for his actions, seeing more of the world than when he was a melancholic, but optimistic prince... Zephiel snaps, completely. He plots to keep his death faked for Desmond, and waits until the funeral procession; when Desmond comes up to view his son's "body" in the coffin, Zephiel lashes out and kills Desmond on the spot, stabbing him to death. So the prick is dead, but his actions have, at this point, completely wrecked his son - Zephiel has seen the very worst of humanity through the very figure he always looked up to and wanted to love him, a figure who then tried to callously murder him while just being an overall unpleasant person (and as stated, even his love for his daughter Guinevere was twisted up in pettiness, hatred and jealousy). Absolutely disgusted with humanity, Zephiel plots to start a war on Elibe with Bern's military might and ALSO to bring dragons back to the continent... all so he can topple the control from humanity and give it to the dragons again. His father's actions have turned him into a complete misanthrope, and he has no issues with starting a conflict to get thousands, if not MILLIONS killed; pretty much out of hatred of humanity. And all of it is, indirectly, Desmond's fault - due to a petty grudge against his wife, resentment that he had to marry within his station rather than the lowborn woman he DID desire, and envy towards his son, he stops at NOTHING to sate his desire to hurt his wife and son. He doesn't care about the fact that in the long run, Zephiel would be a great king for Bern. He doesn't care that his actions would break Guinevere's heart - Zephiel does not DESERVE her love, it belongs to him, to DESMOND! He doesn't care that despite his own insecurities and deficiencies, Zephiel loved him - that he respects and looks up to his father and is deferential to him. No - all this matters nothing, he just wants to satisfy his fhatred. And not only does he ruin his son as a result, said ruination leads to the new King Zephiel to plunge the entire continent into war, because he's instilled in his son a belief that humans as a whole are evil and corrupt and deserve it... What a piece of s**t.
The NPCs I blame the Deeprealms mechanic more than anything else, truth be told - the writers clearly wanted to do something other than the "Awakening" time travel mechanic so as to prove they weren't one-trick ponies, but they didn't have much in the way of ideas on how to make recruitable kids again. So, they thought to themselves, "Let's make a world where everything is so ridiculously dangerous, the parents would WILLINGLY have their infants sent into an alternate realm, even one where time doesn't go at the same pace, because at least they'll be safe from the Faceless and other horrors! What could possibly go wrong?" Needless to say, fans on both sides of the Pacific (and beyond) were not so receptive to the idea... Which is probably why there are DLC in which people from Ylisse (I think the "Awakening" trio in the one that explains their origin? Or Chrom/Lissa/Frederick in "Before Awakening") are made to see just how dangerous the "Fates" world is, and hamfistedly comment on how it's SO much more dangerous than their world, etc., blah blah blah... Whether you think much of the mechanic is your prerogative, but it's clear the writers realised they goofed badly and were trying to salvage their self-made mess, with... debatable results. Honestly, given that any of the kids can marry Corrin and agree to do the same thing to Kana - even if they were the ones who complained about it being done to them - you really need to take the whole thing with a grain of salt. Whatever the faults of the "Fates" dads, the narrative tries VERY hard to make it clear they DO love their kids regardless, even if their actions don't always show it... which is more than I can say for King Desmond of Bern from FE7/"Fire Emblem (2003)"!
21:56 Counting his grandchildren, huh? Well if he wants to start counting his great-great-grandchildren, he might as well start with Hercules... Yeah, you read that right. Zeus is both Hercules' father AND great-great-grandfather as Zeus is father to Perseus, who is Hercules' great-grandfather as well as half-brother for sharing the same father. I know Oscar said that incest isn't a big deal with Gods but HOLY HELL THAT'S F***ED UP.
Well, we know one of the reasons Disney's Hercules was still a kids movie is because they rewrote Zeus into pretty much the opposite character he is. Not just different, THE ENTIRE FUCKING OPPOSITE. Zeus is THE biggest asshole in Greek Mythology for a reason.
Parental or Guardian figure that you can easily contact and would appreciate hugs _or_ if you don't have any of those, a friend that you know. If you're short on those too, Thomas Sanders from Vine is a pretty good human being that is willing to be a substitute father figure role model for his fans that had terrible ones.
I'd say King Desmond from FE7 would be a good candidate. Never wanted his son, was jealous of how talented his own son causing Desmond to scorn him, went out of his way to try and deny Zephiel the throne, and when all else failed he tried to kill his son on two different occasions. The first one Zephiel couldn't prove it was his father but when Desmond tries poisoning Zephiel, Zephiel fakes his own death in order to kill his father at his own funeral. All this causes Zephiel to distrust all mankind, think emotionless war dragons would better rule the world and gets all your favorite characters from 7 killed.
Ghetsis probably treats his Pokemon worse. In the sequel, his signature Pokemon, Hydregon can use a move called frustration, a move that's powered by how much the Pokemon HATES it's trainer!
And the guy thinks HE should be the only one to have pokemon since he is the, "Perfect being who is the only one who knows how to use them properly." This after his son proves to already be a thousand times better a leader than he ever was and even BEFRIENDED a legendary dragon.
I have a theory about what exactly happened to Donkey Kong Jr. What if Donkey Kong Jr. grew up into Funky Kong? Funky likes to wear a lot of white tank tops just like Jr. did, and he tries to act cool around DK and the other kongs. He also is skilled enough to make weapons and vehicles out of nothing but some logs, branches, and barrels, and learning how to make stuff like that would take years, possibly even decades. And given how much time has past between Donkey Kong III on the Arcade and Donkey Kong Country in order to turn Cranky from a large gorilla to a cynical (and possibly senile) old man, that would give Jr. plenty of time to learn how to do stuff like that
truth be told growing up my father was abusive an alcoholic and a bully so I was never that close to him but recently he has started to change and while we're not really that close nowadays I dont hate him anymore I've overcome the abuse and torment he put me through my mother is someone I'm close to however she's helped me become strong individual I am nowadays
More power to you, my friend. I don't know the situation you're in, but if your father is willing to change for the better, that's an opportunity I wouldn't pass up. Then again, I'm the kind of guy that thinks everyone deserves a second chance. It's up to you man, and I hope things look up for you. God bless.
I also wouldn't necessarily consider von Karma's tutoring Edgeworth to be a blessing. He basically trained Edgeworth to be a ruthless evidence-suppressing antithesis to his father.
I think Jin Kisaragi would be pretty high on that worst brothers and sisters list. And I dunno should I consider Kazuya Mishima since he's so focused on destroying Heihachi and Jin, he doesn't give a shit about Lee Chaolan and Lars Alexanderson. Sure, there's Nina and Anna Williams in Tekken too but both are equally bad for each other.
I would ask why Dracula from castlevania wasn't on this list but, by all means, Dracula was probably a great da, at least until his wife got crucified and burned go being accused as a witch.
The only reason why Dracula hates Alucard is because Alucard is siding with humans. Alucard fights Dracula not because he wants to but because he has to. Dracula is unable to forgive the humans but Alucard can. Mostly because Alucard is alot like Lisa.
I'm pretty sure Zeus didn't know how strong Kratos was at the times of the many god of war games, however DEMIGRA (who is probably Towa and Dabura's FARTHER!) KNEW HOW STRONG THE PLAYER WAS AND DIDN'T CARE ABOUT IT IN THE SLIGHTEST!!
Came back to rewatch after Josh's top 10 best fathers. With some new games that have dropped since then I gotta wonder if Raven Beak would have cracked the list had he existed. Also: 19:33 that didn't age well😅
Another angle to von Karma: framing Edgeworth for Hammond's murder was only Plan A. Having to be reminded of that fateful day in the elevator brought Edgeworth's fears about possibly killing his father back to the forefront. Even if Phoenix managed to get an acquittal in the Hammond case, Edgeworth would more than likely confess to his "actual crime." Notice that von Karma doesn't seem too concerned about losing the trial, but smiles gleefully once Edgeworth confesses. And the trial is timed so that, if Gregory Edgeworth's murder isn't solved soon, the statute of limitations would prevent the case from ever being reopened. This gives von Karma the advantage, having prepared for this eventuality, over a lawyer who would only have mere days, at best, to learn everything to even mount any meaningful kind of defense.
I still find it rather strange that Karma doesn't care about losing the Hamond case. He cares so much about his perfect win record that even a penalty fucked him up. Sure Edgeworth is still going to jail, but in the case with Hamond Edgeworth was officially declared "not guilty", thats a LOSS. Even if Edgeworth went to jail his record is broken.
Kinda surprised Relius Clover wasn't on the list. He's almost on Zeus level douchebaggery: 1) turned his daughter into a puppet that his son uses in battle 2) he sees his son as a disappointment and has beaten up and if I remember correctly tried to kill him a few times. 3) contender for worst husband (turned his wife into a puppet he uses in battle himself) 4) lied to and manipulated his son to save his own ass when he was weakened to where his son could finish him off.
Sidar Erdem NOPE. Freudian excuses do not change your actions. Kratos is a murderer regardless of his backstory, because, again HE DID IT ON HIS OWN FUCKING VOLITION. He wasn't forced to kill, he DECIDED to kill, and the blood on his hands in God of War 2 where he basically spread War relentlessly against EVERYONE is not something you can justify this way. So no, plenty are innocent and not circumstantial at all.
Sidar Erdem NO, IT DOESN'T. It never does and it never will. Life doesn't work like that! He killed innocents on his own volition, pretty much MILLIONS, which is not forgotten and certainly NOT forgiven if he's willing to kill himself to try and atone.
Sidar Erdem Except it isn't. Killing is not like stealing candy. You can't just pretend it never happened and buy another to replace the stolen one. It has far more impactful consequences, both for the killer and the related ones to the killed. And given Kratos has MILLIONS worth of blood in his hands, no. He can't for his life being repent enough for it, even less when for all it's worth he still decided to keep in the path of a murderer.
"Where's your son, Cranky Kong??" Some people say he's Funky Kong but it's not confirmed. But there is a slight bit of evidence to believe that, and he's definitely a better dad than Cranky if that is the case. Like Cranky, Funky is surprisingly technologically resourceful, making a plane made of barrels. Granted, he too makes a profit off his supposed relatives' journey, but at least the restocks of ammo are free in Donkey Kong 64. Even more awesome is that he is the one who delivers the last blow to the Kongs' archnemesis K Rool.
I guess Garon doesn't count because it technically wasn't him throughout the story, and Anankos technically doesn't count since he knew he would turn mad and took steps into stopping himself
Just to put my two cents on the list. It’s a great list as always. But, if I did this list, I would place one Handsome Jack on number 10. Why? Well, those who haven’t play borderlands series, theirs a character called Angel who is basically your guardian angel(pun intended). Helping you on your journey to get the vault. Although, in Borderlands 2, it turns out she’s been working with Handsome Jack-the main villain of the game-the whole time. Why would she?, you may ask. Not only Angel is a siren, but she is also Jacks Daughter. Jack place Angel in a secret room(when she was still a child mind you) to gain information and basically isolated her for years. And when Jack became CEO of Hyperion and gain the vault key, he decided to continuously pump erdiem into her to charge the vault key as a BATTERY!!! In other words, Angel experienced her own Hell of isolation and being use as a object by her oWN FATHER!!! I get it Jack, Angel’s uncontrollably siren powers accidentally killed her own mother. You would make sure that never happens again. But, not only you did all of those things to her. But you essentially end Angel’s life when you continue to pump eridem into her FOR YEARS!!! Jack is no hero, and not a good father as he think he is. P.S: let me know if I got anything wrong.
(Going to update this to talk about each entry) 5. Considering Cranky's a massive can of worms. I would've put Jedah from Fire Emblem Gaiden and its remake Shadows of Valentia at this spot. He's a high priest of the Duma cult. Who sacrificed two of his three daughters (Marla and Hestia) after abandoning them (Sonya is the third one and she mentions being abandoned by him. And waiting for him to return with her siblings in her support conversations with Genny) 4. What a monster. 3. I can imagine it being a case of Ghetsis abandoning N for a long time before returning later on. Just like Cervantes. 2. I will say this. Even if Manfred didn't adopt Miles. I still think (Seemingly) neglecting his own flesh & blood because he was planning out a revenge scheme is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! 1. And they turned Kratos into a really good father. Pretty sure they did that on purpose.
Kratos was a douche even before he made a deal with Ares so everything he done was his own fault and not the gods. Kratos is like Guts from Berserker, both angry for not reason and both kill anyone even when everyone else has nothing to do with their problems.
I kept calling out that Relius Clover is going to be in this list, but nope. Score, GS, score. For screwing my guessing. I'm gonna guess... BlazBlue's nature 'too much information' (plus the story is not over yet) for you? ... Well you DID mention that in the Cryomancer list about Jin! I don't blame ya. But yeah, Relius is DEFINITELY amongst my worst VG parental figures. Also I wanna know. Where do you get the info that Artemis fled Olympus in GOW-verse? I don't think it was mentioned anywhere...
Well I knew mythologically that Artemis is Zeus' daughter, so I decided to look her up on the God of War wiki. It's hidden away in a notebook somewhere in the PSP games.
Now that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are out, Ghetsis is even worse. Ghetsis appears as part of Team Rainbow Rocket, planning to use Giovanni as he would be "easier to manipulate than a freak without a human heart." So not only is Ghetsis badmouthing his son behind his back, but he doesn't even know you when he tells you this. However, let's look at his team: Cofagrigus, Bouffalant, Bisharp, his signature Hydreigon, and either Reshiram or Zekrom. This means that after N did something to disappoint Ghetsis, Ghetsis took the legendary dragon from N. This means that Ghetsis had to have defeated his own son, but you can't catch another Trainer's Pokemon. So Ghetsis took Pokemon, the only thing N cares about away from him at the bare minimum. What I think probably happened is that Ghetsis probably MURDERED N. Ghetsis threatens Lillie's life in the same game, so I wouldn't put it past him. Overall, the Ultra games have made Ghetsis almost worse than Von Karma.
N should get a talking to either lance, yellow, or giovanni (maybe), all three of them being viridian forest children who can do what N can do and more. also lance once tried to commit human genocide after seeing first hand what humans were doing to pokemon and their habitats.
I would say heihachis ending in Tekken 6 was even more messed up because he basically takes jin and kazuya in outer space and have them crash land on earth that's even more screwed up
However regardless heihachi is probably one of the most despicable villains in the entire Tekken series of all time however in Tekken 7 he becomes more sympathetic well from what I've seen
Actully Heihachi throwing Jin off of a helicopter was none cannon because in the real ending heihachi shots Jin in the head and leaves without thinking because jin awakens his devil form and grabs Heihachi by the head throwing him next to a wall and jin flys away
To Comic Foil and Green Scorpion, if you ever do a Top 10 Worst Mothers in Video Games, may I suggest Isaac's mom from The Binding of Isaac. Seriously though, what kind of MOTHER would sacrifice their own child to a god?
After I watched this video for the first time I just went up to my dad and gave him a hug. He was always a big inspiration to me growing up teaching me that stuff like hard work while not always immediate always does pay off. He's just someone who I consider a hero.
! O.O Wow, Oscar, I dunno if you saw my hated characters list, but you just mentioned the same explanation i mentioned about Giovanni not daring to kill the trainer when Ghetsis almost did! O.O
To be fair in 7s story mode we learned that he didn’t kill his wife because he could, he did it both because he had to or she would kill him and more out out of grief. Basically Heihachi wanted to get rid of the devil gene because it ruined his family life. That’s the best I can interpret the Tekken 7 story mode anyway.
Excuse me. Oscar. WHERE. THE HELL. WAS RELIUS CLOVER - the man who turned his wife and daughter into soulless cyborg puppets, has no human emotion, and constantly fights and belittles his son Carl? Cranky?!!? SERIOUSLY?!?! WHERE WAS CLOVER?????
On an unrelated note: You guys should do a Top Ten Insert Songs in Video Games sometime! You seem to have an idea on what they are, and the topic as a whole is way too underrated.
Uh, dude? Just learned this about the music you use for Heihachi's entry. It isn't his theme from SFxT. It's actually a piece from Touhou. "Suwa Foughten Field" by Demetori, is what it's called.
Great countdown as usual Oscar. Though I admit I'm surprised you didn't put Kind Desmond from FE7 on this list. You LP really enforced how much of a bad father that guy is.
Relevant to the Zeus bit: as I understand it (I admit I may be mistaken or misinformed) the Greek god of the sun who drives his chariot across the sky has been called different names within the mythology. And I don't mean the Roman equivalent of the same gods with different names, I mean he has TWO names in Greece. He is most commonly known as Apollo, but he is ALSO Helios. And as Helios, he DOES appear in the series, as the one abducted by Persephone and Atlas to destroy the world (Unleash the power of the sun!) and trying to fight the Titans off Olympus in GoW 3. He pleads with Kratos to stop his attack, because he doesn't want to fight the dude who saved him from Atlas, but Kratos just kinda tears his head right off his neck.
4) At least a saving grace of his is EVERYTHING HE DOES IN BOTH PROJECT X ZONE GAMES... minus the part where he fights you in Dimitri's Castle from Darkstalkers, but that's pretty early in the game so whatever. Also he doesn't seem to be a cat person considering his rival from Playstation All-Starts.
Actually Kazuya never made a deal with the devil he already had devil power's thanks to his mother somehow it was only awakened after he took flying lessons which will FINALLY be explained in tekken 7 speaking of which do you know of a certain other character that's in the game if not you should react to it
Well, Validar kinda made the list so I was wrong, BTW Oscar speaking of Validar, what are your thoughts on Desmond and Ashnard seeing as they are pretty terrible fathers in Fire Emblem
Yeah but it was Zeus who brought the Colossus to life in the first place. So in a way, Zeus was secretly plotting Kratos' death by awaking the Colossus and making sure Kratos can only use the Blade of Olympus as a mortal in order to defeat the statue. And Kratos thought at first it was Athena who brought the Colossus to life. And when Kratos was weakened by the Colossus, then Zeus took action to stop the foretold cycle.
The main thing that pisses me off about it is that Kratos says that Zeus tricked him into giving up his godly powers when Zeus openly told him to give them up. Kratos saying that directly after killing the Colossus and by that point there was no information saying that Zeus brought it to life to kill Kratos(at least to my knowledge).
The eagle that flew in Rhodes. The one that shrunk Kratos into size of a mortal and brought the Colossus of Rhodes to life. That was Zeus(and like I said, Kratos thought it was Athena conspiring against Kratos). And at least from what I think, I think Kratos thought that after defeating the Colossus and grabbing to the Blade of Olympus afterwards he'd get his godly powers back. Merely my point of view.
I don't believe that it was ever confirmed that Von Karma adopted Edgeworth. Interesting enough though it's commonly accepted that he actually had two biological children since he mentioned having a 7 year old granddaughter and Franziska would have either 11 or 12 the time of birth (She was 18 in the sequel).
I've actually wondered about that. In fact, I'm actually hoping that this is addressed if and when Franziska returns to the Ace Attorney series. [I'm interested to see how she will react to Athena's mood matrix]
If this was for anime, I'd nominate Phoenix King/Fire Lord Ozai from Avatar. He burned multiple nations to the ground including the Air Sanctuary, Water Nation and Ba Sing Sei, exiled his son Zuko in favor of his bat-shit crazy daughter Azula, condescendes EVERYONE not on par to his rank or above his rank and is an extremely ruthless, power-seeking asshole.
What Ipersonaly find sort of ironic is the Ozai is played by the same actor who played Luke Skywalker from Star Wars who didn't have that great of a dad himself. But yeah, I've only sen a few Avatar episodes, but from I saw Ozai is pretty bad.
I'd say Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin but despite how bad dads they are in terms of parenting, they really care about their kids. But if ya REALLY wanna see an awful dad in animated series, Jaqcues Schnee from RWBY is the man to blame.
Not really. He pretty much manipulated everything from the shadows that would allow Lloyd to win in the end. Seriously, he thought Lloyd was dead before the events of the game.
Great list overall. I just want to point out one thing though because as a big fan of the series and it's remixes, I got to point out that the song you used for the Heihachi entry is actually NOT Heihachi's Street Fighter x Tekken theme. He doesn't appear to have an official one in the game actually. The real name of the song in that entry is actually a Touhou remix by a doujin band known as "Demetori", the song is a remix of Kanako's theme called "Suwa Foughten Field: The Venerable Ancient Battlefield".
And in Ultra games Necrozma's the big threat that is gonna devour all the light it can find through the multiverse(dude, Necrozma stole Strykore's shtick).
and let's not forget she actually mocks you about putting Pokemon in a box for being useless!
SSlovebird Then there’s Sonia from blazing sword who is Nino’s adoptive mother who is awful
Anyone else wishing for the Worst Mothers video to go with this one, raise your hands!! 😀🙌🏼🤘

Especially after the "A Man that can eat stone axes!" line
3. Waiting for Ghetsis too. He's a prick of a father.
2. STILL haven't played any of the Ace Attorney games (Want to though) but Manfred's not cool.
1. Was NOT expecting the God of Olympus to be on this list. And at #1 at all.
Phoenix would be disappointed in Ghetsis.
It's just funny how Asura and Kratos goes on opposite ends of the father spectrum.
Yup. As destructive as Asura is, he's a heavy contender for the best dad in gaming.
Basically goes high and low and trying to overcome the will of the universe so his daughter doesn't have to cry again. Sure he may not have gotten her a present for her birthday but god damn he probably loves her more then any father could. (And not meaning the incest route either.)
He punches GOD in the face for abusing his daughter.
@@glacierwolf2155 I agree. Because of Chakravartin's manipulation of the Seven Deties, Mitra had to suffer for 13300 years. Anyone would agree that that is way too long.
And then, ironically enough, Kratos himself becomes a great father.

Karma also has a 3rd child, whom we never see. He mentions having a granddaughter, and Franziska doesnt have a child
Mariokemon or does she?
Maybe she did and either doesn't want her child to be a stain on the Von Karma name or is training her in secret

“WHERE’S YOUR SON, CRANKY KONG-“
Gets me everytime.
At least in Awakening the kids were from the future, and they always said that their dads loved them
The NPCs I blame the Deeprealms mechanic more than anything else, truth be told - the writers clearly wanted to do something other than the "Awakening" time travel mechanic so as to prove they weren't one-trick ponies, but they didn't have much in the way of ideas on how to make recruitable kids again.
Thing is, it's REALLY hard to talk about the worst dad in Fates without going into MASSIVE spoilers.
...Yep, it's the Silent Dragon.

His Hydregon uses frustration in the fight
how powerful is the attack for him?

I have a theory about what exactly happened to Donkey Kong Jr. What if Donkey Kong Jr. grew up into Funky Kong? Funky likes to wear a lot of white tank tops just like Jr. did, and he tries to act cool around DK and the other kongs. He also is skilled enough to make weapons and vehicles out of nothing but some logs, branches, and barrels, and learning how to make stuff like that would take years, possibly even decades. And given how much time has past between Donkey Kong III on the Arcade and Donkey Kong Country in order to turn Cranky from a large gorilla to a cynical (and possibly senile) old man, that would give Jr. plenty of time to learn how to do stuff like that
MLDKF well funky Kong used to have a tail which he lost and donkey Kong jr didn't have a tail

He's almost on Zeus level douchebaggery:
1) turned his daughter into a puppet that his son uses in battle
2) he sees his son as a disappointment and has beaten up and if I remember correctly tried to kill him a few times.
3) contender for worst husband (turned his wife into a puppet he uses in battle himself)
4) lied to and manipulated his son to save his own ass when he was weakened to where his son could finish him off.
At least Kratos will TRY to be a decent father to his son in the new game. Zeus... sucks!
Doesn't change shit on what he did. He wasn't bad at the beginning =/= He didn't kill MILLIONS on his own volition eventually.
Thank you - glad to see calmer heads in these discussions. :-)
To Kratos' credit, he DOES prove to be a better father during the Norse-themed sequel that came out a few years ago.
What? No, I'm not crying, you're crying!
Say whatever you want, I don't know why but, the credit song with the last picture touched me... I don't know why.
(Going to update this to talk about each entry)
5. And waiting for him to return with her siblings in her support conversations with Genny)
Hey at least Kratos will be a better father than Zeus in the new god of war game...
That's one hell of a countdown, Oscar. Congratulations for the awesome job.
Heihachi is so evil it’s actually kinda funny
Kratos was a douche even before he made a deal with Ares so everything he done was his own fault and not the gods. Kratos is like Guts from Berserker, both angry for not reason and both kill anyone even when everyone else has nothing to do with their problems.
Sidar Erdem Who Kratos or Guts?
what no love well hate for Handsom jack from borderlands as what he did to his daughter Angel was nothing short of monstrous
ComicFoil
I knew I should have dug deeper in the Wikia...
Well it's literally my job XD
Zuse couldn't have done much with thanatos or the sisters of Fate because they fall under Nyx the night mother who even Zuse was afraid of
I laughed so hard at your Cranky Kong rant! GS, you entertain me in ways you can't imagine! Keep up the great work.
I can't believe the King of all Cosmos isn't on here...
He was HEAVILY considered when we were writing the list.
and relius?
Play I2 - 3, its starts very comedic, the last hour is nothing but emotional daggers to the heart like some depressing circus act
N should get a talking to either lance, yellow, or giovanni (maybe), all three of them being viridian forest children who can do what N can do and more. also lance once tried to commit human genocide after seeing first hand what humans were doing to pokemon and their habitats.
Giovanni also is a terrible father.
Zeus is quite the terrible father, even discarding the existing mythology.
Yeah, that's been on my mind. ;)
As cruel as Heihachi is i have to admit i got a huge laugh out of his endings in Tekken 5, 6, and 7.
E1ite Yoshi he certainly does have creative ways on killing people
To be fair in 7s story mode we learned that he didn’t kill his wife because he could, he did it both because he had to or she would kill him and more out out of grief. Basically Heihachi wanted to get rid of the devil gene because it ruined his family life. That’s the best I can interpret the Tekken 7 story mode anyway.
Doesn't really make him a good dad or person meta.
Great countdown Oscar! Makes me want to call my Dad now too.
SUWA FOUGHTEN FEILD ROCK MIX FOR #4 MSUIC!!!! I APPROVE, good sir! I APPROVE!
Excuse me. Oscar. WHERE. THE HELL. WAS RELIUS CLOVER - the man who turned his wife and daughter into soulless cyborg puppets, has no human emotion, and constantly fights and belittles his son Carl?
Cranky?!!? SERIOUSLY?!?! WHERE WAS CLOVER?????
i was smiling at just how bad zeus was and then that ending just made me cry....
Hey GS! Here's a topic you could do for your next list. Top 10 respectable video game villains.
In the Greek, he was called Heracles.
On an unrelated note:
You guys should do a Top Ten Insert Songs in Video Games sometime! You seem to have an idea on what they are, and the topic as a whole is way too underrated.
update.
Vergil From the Devil May Cry 5 in terms of nero
When you're trying to think of bad dads, but the comment section comes up with them before you do...
And Kratos genuinely loved his daughter, which makes him killing his family all the more sad in the first place....
Well, Heihachi won't be throwing his family off stuff anymore after what happened in Tekken 7.
Are you sure about that
Actually Kazuya never made a deal with the devil he already had devil power's thanks to his mother somehow it was only awakened after he took flying lessons which will FINALLY be explained in tekken 7 speaking of which do you know of a certain other character that's in the game if not you should react to it
N's original name was Neo Harmonia Ghetsis, but was later changed to Natural Harmonia Gropius.
Always a pleasure to watch your countdowns. :)
What about Adam Malcovich from Metroid: Other M? Also, what about Ivy's greatness, questionable wardrobe aside?
Scissorman True, but Adam could have at least been at the number 10 spot.
Also, how about Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat?
That ending was very nice. my candadits would have been krew from jak, relius from blaze blue, and mad father from mad father.
{immediately went to look up who Krew was father to}
...Huh. Go figure.
Well, Validar kinda made the list so I was wrong, BTW Oscar speaking of Validar, what are your thoughts on Desmond and Ashnard seeing as they are pretty terrible fathers in Fire Emblem
Secretly!? Zeus flat out TOLD Kratos to put all of his godly powers into the sword of Olympus so that he would be able to kill a living statue.
Btw where did you get that credit picture? And is it one of Scorpion?
Um... Scorpion, have you played Ace Attorney investigations 2?
...actually, that game had a lot of evil dads.
Well Nico's English playthrough hasn't come out yet so he possibly didn't know it existed yet
Not to mention are they worse than Manfred?
@@stilesstratton9566 I’d say yes. It’s implied Manfred cares about his biological children. The ones in Investigations 2? Horrifyingly not
who knew Bowser was a good parent!
It's even worse given Azula became psycho BECAUSE of Ozai
Kepler Kitten He also spent his first on-screen appearance burning half of said son's face off.
I'd say Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin but despite how bad dads they are in terms of parenting, they really care about their kids. But if ya REALLY wanna see an awful dad in animated series, Jaqcues Schnee from RWBY is the man to blame.
Technically ozai didn't burn down most of those places.
Kratos from Tales of Symphonia was a pretty shitty dad.
