It’s just puzzling to me anyone would eat something that makes you sick 🤷♀️. If it doesn’t smell or look good, I won’t eat it.
the Swedish meatballs is good but saying they are the best means you have never tried Danish meatballs also called "frikadeller". ;) they are essentially just bigger and better than the Swedish meatballs.
Its so sad, every time someone tells about Scandinavia or The Nordic countries, they always forgets the Sami people. Try to listen to Daniels Yoik with Jon Henrik Fjelgren and read about the Sami people.
For Scandinavia not so much since the Sami people occupy parts of Finland (besides Norway and Sweden and maybe Russia) also (Finland, which isn't part of Scandinavia). And Finns have more in common with the traditional Scandinavian culture than Samis have too. And "Scandinavian culture and society" is something distinct from the Sami culture. I mean you have "Sametinget", a different language and some different culture markers. Also the people are genetically from a different descendant. I mean, there is a reason why the Sami people have kind of government of their own ("Sametinget") spanning multiple countries. And besides "Samer" is a folk group, just like Romes, Yews etc, not really a country. Maybe a bit like the Kurds, which don't have their own country (but also a lot less influence over politics in comparison)
@@Magnus_Loov I don't quite understand your comment. The Sami live in what is called Sapmi, a huge region that stretches from Norway to Sweden, Finland and Iond in Russia. The Sami have lived for millennia, and regardless of whether they are genetically related to other Scandinavians (and Finns), they are there and are a fairly important group. They are treated badly, but there is progress and yes they have their Sami Parliament, their own flag and their language has been recognised. Even the UN has recognized them as an original group of people
@@evamayakornstad2576 Yes, the Sami is a group. But Scandinavia isn't about a goup of people. It is a region of countries. Two different things. There are other minorities that live within Scandinavia that also could have been mentioned. Being a minority doesn't qualify to be called "Scandinavian" (They also partly live in Russia in addition to that).
0:45 The word originates in the region of Scandia that's currently in southern Sweden but that historically was a part of Denmark. Denmark as a kingdom grew out of the control over the straights between what's today Sweden and the Jutland peninsula in Denmark, hence why the capital of Denmark is right next to Sweden (it used to be roughly in the middle of Denmark) Scandinavia ended up being the term that southerners used foe the lands north of continental Europe, that is the Scandinavian peninsula that includes Norway, Sweden and the northern tip of Finland today (we now use Fennoscandia when referring to those three nations without Denmark), but since what is today Scania in mainland Sweden was literally mainland Denmark back then and also controlled Norway and/or Sweden for huge parts of our history while Finland ended up being a battleground between Sweden and various incarnations of Russia and not really that important on its own in the minds of continental (and it was far away anyway) the term ended up being stuck for the three Scandinavian kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. As opposed to the term Nordic that technically was a cultural term for the nordic cultures that descended from the north Germanic peoples, sonur included Iceland, the Faeroe islands and any other areas populated by nordic peoples. However politically it has evolved into a term that includes Finland but not former nordic areas like the island of Man, Shetland, the Orkeney islands etc... Basically a Scandinavia + collective term.
Copenhagen didn't evolve into a larger town and eventually a capitol city, until the late Middle Ages/early Renaissance. The principal towns in the Oresund region back then, were Roskilde (Denmark) and Kalmar (Sweden).
There are some conflicting sources for it. Many of the first sources for Scandinavia seemed to be refering to the peninsula that was Norway and Sweden. Others were refering to a vague "island" where may Skåne (Scania) was at the center of it. The orginal word was from two Proto german words that just meant "dangerous Island". Or danger/Damage Island/land next to water. An Island "up north" with unknown size and just like Great Britain was to the southern Europeans more than 2000 years ago!
It's a video made by Danes, so of course it's biased. Like he talks about football (soccer to you) he is, for some strange reason, just mentioning the ranking of the _men's_ teams. Perhaps because Sweden is 3rd in the ranking in the world, Norway is 13th, and Denmark 17th... And Pippi Longstocking hasn't been banned in Sweden! BS...They just edited them so it wouldn't say that her white pirate dad was "Negro King" anymore. Astrid Lindgren, who wrote the books in the 40s, said herself in the 70s that if she had written the books then she wouldn't have written that. Saying that IKEA meatballs are Sweden's national dish... Thinking that IKEA's meatballs is how meatballs taste in Sweden. It's like if someone would say that US national dish is hamburgers... and you would be like "Yeah, ok..." and then they add "from McDonalds"... Sure, they're sort of good, like ediable, it's not like they're something wrong with them, but it's the fast food version, made in a factory, not like the real thing, made at home or in a restaurant. The Royal houses is a mix of everything, really Scandinavian, French, German, British etc. Like The Danish Queen's mother was Swedish (The Danish Queen and The Swedish King are first cousins), and her kids are half French. The Norwegian king also had a Swedish mother. The Swedish king's great grandma was Victoria of England and the Swedish Queen is half German, half Brazilian, they have ancestry from all over, really. So you should probably take this video with a big grain of salt.
I felt it was very biased in the beginning. It was like he couldnt give a compliment without adding a but.. I think all in all the bias wasn’t that bad towards the end. I don’t get why he added Finland into the mix though.
There are two Scandinavia. The peninsula, which is Sweden, Norway, and a bit of Finland. Then there are the Scandinavian countries, which are Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Norway has the strongest economy, Sweden the worst of the three. Hence why the cost difference. Denmark has tonnes of beaches. Tonnes! And while Norway may have one of the longest coast lines in the world, both the coast of Norway and Sweden are very Rocky, while 95% of Danish beaches are sandy beaches. Many of them being world class.
Noooo. Don’t spread the lie that Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands are Scandinavian. The guy needs to know the difference between Nordic and Scandinavian 😔
Scandinavia is Denmark, Sweden and Norway The Nordic countries are Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Åland and Greenland. Greenland because they belong to Denmark. Fun fact: Denmark has a land border to Canada :)

It's a running joke in Denmark is the capital of IKEA when we try to teach Americans about our geography. It's a general trend that people of huge countries seem to not focus so much on geography and other languages... It's simply not that necessary when you can live your entire life inside the same country speaking your mother tongue. In a small country like Denmark it's simply a necessity to be able to communicate with your neighbours.
You must watch (Traveling young) on youtube. It is a family that moved from the USA to Denmark with their daughter and has lived here for a few years. They talk about their life in Denmark and about taxes and health.
Strictly speaking, Scandinavia is only Norway, Sweden and Denmark (and their territories). Iceland and Finland are included in the Nordic countries however. The video is of course biased in favour of Denmark, since Gus is Danish. He didn't make a lot of mistakes, although he did focus more on Denmark and sort of gloss over the other two countries a bit.
That's recentism though (constantly repeated in forums like this). Finland was considered part of Scandinvavia proper until taken from Sweden by Russia in 1809. That was for geographical as well as cultural reasons, both of which holds pretty well even today (except maybe the language, which has shrunk from some 50% fluent Swedish to a little more than 5% in recent years).
@@martinandersen1849 Neither is Denmark, as you pointed out yourself, but still called Scandinavia. This is because this focus on a "Scandinavian peninsula" is pretty recent as well. In the 1700s and 1800s we talked about the mountain range Skanderna, which reaches well into Finland (which was then a land of Sweden, just like (say) Norrland or Götaland still is).
@@martinandersen1849 Forgot to say that the reason Denmark was thought of as Scandinavian (by us Swedes) was that it once owned Skåne, a land with the same etymological roots as the word Scandinavia. Also its close ties to Norway of course (and Sweden, although often more reluctantly).
Used to lay oil pipes in Norway. Beautifull country and great pay. Then I go back to Denmark and spend it all^^ Danes also have the best humor. We had a comedian. Jonathan Spang, that trolled the entire nation of Sweden, hahaha
12:05 I very much object to him defining Denmark að the most liberal. It depends on *what* you include or exclude in your liberal vs conservative definitions. What freedoms you care about. Each of Norway, Sweden and Denmark are ahead in some and behind in others. Living in Norway I'd probably give the overall crown to Sweden although it's a tight race, and Sweden has regressed a lot in recent years.
when it comes to freedom, I think Denmark is the most liberal. Just take Christiania for example. But at the same time, they are super conservative when it comes to immigration. Sweden is the opposite.
@@mikaeldk5700 Yes, Sweden has problems due to immigration. Won't argue with you there. It's not even an opinion anymore, it's a fact. My point was that we in Scandinavia are liberal in different ways. Du förstår vad jag menar va? Danskjävel. ;)
@@sheep89, funny you menion immigration. Even according to Sweden, who used to say they could house EVERYONE who wish to come, recently admitted that they have HUGH ghetto issues due to a VERY liberal immigration policy. Look at Malmô for instance. So maybe a policy, where you do not take bigger bites than you can chew would be a better approach for all, even for the immigrants?

You are never to old to learn tysheen. Scandinavia is a region in northern Europe that consists of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Faroe Islands and also Iceland that I've been too, they all have a good standard of living with good pensions and a good quality of life and education, the only few downsides to living in scandanavia .... 6:45 Eh, I'd say that it's the other way around. But it depends on the product and just price fluctuations over time. Some things are just way cheaper in Denmark then in Sweden, at least sometimes. Others things are way cheaper in Sweden. Norwegians will go to both countries to shop cheap products.
I mean.... if you didn't find this already on google, there is a smal lare in Sweden called Scania. Which I assume has some kind of historical fact behind the Scandinavia choise of naming, but that might just be because I am Scanian and we are the best down south of Sweden! Wohoo go Scania! But yeah, I don't really think we are separate countries in any other definition than on the map. We are just scandinavians. :) One big happy family, and we gladly include Iceland and Finland. e.t.c.
You ment you saw Finland part of Sweden? You probs saw an old map from somewhere between 1100-1800 when Sweden ruled Finns, Finland was also part of Russia for 100 years after that but we got independence in 1917
Well.. I would say the other way around. Part of Sweden (todays Finland were several old provinces of Sweden) and then ruled by Russia without being a proper part of Russia... I mean, every time the Russuans tried to make Finland a part of Russia, the Finns told them off, and ultimately took their own independance.
Living in Sweden, just a few kilometers from the southern Norwegian border, I'd say that in the Western parts of Sweden, the people are more like the Norwegian people than the Swedish people described in this video. But I do prefer Meatballs to Fårikål, that I do 😂
Meat and cake does not belong together. I love you Norway, but our danish frikadeller wins. You guys eat weird stuff - you can't be trusted with meatballs.

denmark is hard to move to if you are not from eu, but it is only sepperated by a bridge from sweden. and like they say it makes sense to live in sweden and make money in denmark. you would probetly have 10-20% more money.. ofshore work is also tax free, but im not sure it can be used when applying for citizenship. because you are not working in a country and paying tax (maby special rules for that trade) check out eu citizenship, most easy way into all of those country´s for most people. getting a citizenship in the country´s can take more then 10 years (specially in denmark)
The time you need to wait is higher if you come from a EU country (9 years), other immigrants only need to wait 8 years. Last group are mainly muslims.
One interesting thing of note imo atleast is that Norwegians celebrate their constitutional day much more than Sweden and Denmark. This is because while sweden ande denmark have (basically) always been independent, Norway has been a part of both Denmark and Sweden for a very long time. Then after ww2 Norwegians realised how much they valued independence and thats why Indipendence day is much larger in Norway than in the other 2 countries. It has been much harder to achieve.
The best Scandinavian country is Sweden because I come from Denmark they do everything here to take out right from us away and more and more people live on the street the greed from the government is high
Taxes are higher in Sweden than Norway. And Norway have higher wages. But it's cheaper in Sweden. So.. we just go to Sweden to buy shit. Lol Life is better in Norway
14:56 I call bs on that one. The Danes are the most racist and xenophobic of the three... Sweden used to be the least but they're basically on par with us in Norway now and heading down because of issues with their immigrant population (During the height of the immigration crisis in Europe a *single* Swedish town accepted more refugees then all of the US *and* Canada *combined*) Such a big influx of refugees in such a low amount of time as a percentage of the total population was hard ro integrate, and that lead to issues making them more sceptical towards immigration. But honestly they've done their part, unlike the rest of us...
We are not more racist in denmark. We are just not afraid to talk about, if we think it is a good idea to have mass immigration to our nation or not. That is not a racist thing. Mass immigration can cause problems, and it is good to discuss it. I dont see many neo nazis in denmark, but in sweden there are often a lot of them walking the streets for instance.
Sweden has high immigration. It can be seen as liberal. But Sweden also has the strictest drug laws. Which definitely cannot be seen as liberal. Denmark is the exact opposite. Almost no immigration, but very liberal on drugs and alcohol. There are many more examples where we are the exact opposite of each other. We are liberal in different ways.

I’m one of these Danes living in Sweden and going to work in Denmark every day. One of the reasons are, that rent is really expensive in Copenhagen Denmark and cheaper here in Malmö Sweden.
Danes might be better at talking to strangers, but nobody understands what the Danes are mumbling about so does it really matter? Sweden is clearly the best one.
There are a few things to consider when talking about Scandinavia. 1, the Scandinavian peninsula where Norway and Sweden are located. 2, Scania, an old name for a region of Sweden currently named Skåne. 3, although not strictly Scandinavian but for historical reasons Denmark is sometimes counted towards Scandinavian countries.
Um, no, Denmark is part of Scandinavia. Not just for the "sake of tradition". It always has been, always will be. You're Swedish, you should know this. The video is also wrong for including Finland and Iceland in any capacity. Scandinavia is just Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Three countries. If you include Finland and Iceland, you have the Nordics.
Danmark is ranked as the best country in Scandinavia bcs we have the best healthcare in the world, we are the most sustaiable, we recycle EVERYTHING, we probably have the best education system in the world, we are the most eco friendly, and we are the second happiest in the world. Almost all of our electricity comes from wind mills, and we also burn the trash to make energy. We also has the second best quality of life in the world, only behind Switzerland.
17:14 We *like* to think that we'd support each other from outsiders, but history shows that we don't usually do so, because we're all so much weaker then the big countries that surround us and may invade so we don't dare risk the existence of our own nations for each other... Scandinavia ended up being the term that southerners used foe the lands north of continental Europe, that is the Scandinavian peninsula that includes Norway, Sweden and the northern tip of Finland today (we now use Fennoscandia when referring to those three nations without Denmark), but since what is today Scania in mainland Sweden was literally mainland Denmark back then and also controlled Norway and/or Sweden for huge parts of our history while Finland ended up being a battleground between Sweden and various incarnations of Russia and not really that important on its own in the minds of continental (and it was far away anyway) the term ended up being stuck for the three Scandinavian kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Wow. Thank you so much for this.
Looking fabulous! Love the new hairdo :) Thanks for another awesome video!

@@herrbonk3635 Finland is NOT on the Scandinavian peninsula. I am not sure how Denmark managed to be ....

The Danes are the most racist and xenophobic of the three...
Sweden used to be the least but they're basically on par with us in Norway now and heading down because of issues with their immigrant population
(During the height of the immigration crisis in Europe a *single* Swedish town accepted more refugees then all of the US *and* Canada *combined*)
Such a big influx of refugees in such a low amount of time as a percentage of the total population was hard ro integrate, and that lead to issues making them more sceptical towards immigration.
