I went to a garden center today. In a snow suit, big winter boots, mitts and a warm fur hat. The entrance door was frozen shut and the exit door wouldn't stay closed, so the green house was full of steam from the -40 Celsius wind chill outside, entering and mixing with the warm damp greenhouse environment inside. I bought a lemon cypress that was almost 3 feet tall for my mom for Christmas. I had to get it quickly to my car. The greenhouse wrapped it up and I brought a towel to cover it. I have no idea how they keep it warm enough inside for all the plants, when it's so ridiculously cold outside. But warmer weather is coming. Supposed to be 5 Celsius/41F on Monday. That's a plant lovers life in Alberta.

The temps in Minnesota, right now are -20° F with a windchill of 35 below zero and tons of snow... I have a Christmas tree made with grape vines. It has small lights and I decorate it with birds, acorns and other faux nature ornaments for January. It brightens the dark, cold winter days inside and brings cheer after packing away all of the Christmas ornaments. You might want to try this in the Hartley or your family room. My relationship with my mum turned into a nightmare when she around when she turned 50 became an alcoholic. I tried everything for many years until I've had enough and cut all ties. She passed a couple of years ago.
I'm sorry your relationship with your mom was so strained. My relationship with my mom was strained for many, many years...until my dad passed away. Then she became a totally different person and we shared a wonderful relationship until she passed away 1 year later. I'm thankful I had that last year with her. I envy Laura's relationship with her mom.

This storm seems to make the wind chill about the same everywhere. Our wind chills, all day, yesterday were -20 to -30. It was so cold! This morning we are up to 5 degrees, so far. That's exciting because yesterday was -3 by this time of the morning. Did I mention I live in the Texas panhandle?! Yeah, it gets cold and snows in Texas! This part of Texas, for sure! Our temps are usually very similar to Laura's. They are high desert and we are the high plains. We get more wind and they usually get a bit more moisture up there. Stay warm everyone! We started warming up today and by Christmas, we're supposed to be in the mid to lower 50s. We were 61 the day before yesterday. Yesterday we got up to 6, today we're supposed to see lower 20s. This storm seems to make the wind chill about the same everywhere. Our wind chills, all day, yesterday were -20 to -30. It was so cold! This morning we are up to 5 degrees, so far. That's exciting because yesterday was -3 by this time of the morning. Did I mention I live in the Texas panhandle?! Yeah, it gets cold and snows in Texas! This part of Texas, for sure! Our temps are usually very similar to Laura's. They are high desert and we are the high plains. We get more wind and they usually get a bit more moisture up there.
Stay warm everyone! We started warming up today and by Christmas, we're supposed to be in the mid to lower 50s. We were 61 the day before yesterday. Yesterday we got up to 6, today we're supposed to see lower 20s.

I hear you, here in NR Okla yesterday the temperature was 1 but the wind chill was -20, son of a gun it was cold today it got up to 17 Wow. I'm already ready for spring, can't wait to see that tinge of green. Lol

Today is Thursday June 13, 2024 and I had such a good time going with you two. I'm glad you stopped and got a pedicure because I know you both work hard. I had fun and I didn't have to go out in the cold. Thank You for sharing.
