you're in for a treat. octopath is a solidly built jrpg all around and has absolutely one of the absolute best osts of the last decade. I'd never heard of yasunori nishiki before this, and he fuggin' nailed it.
Every playable character has an opening that connects to the Battle 1, 2 song, and boss themes. Each one has a name like For Tresure, For Honor, For Revenge.
Every character has this couple measure per-transistion loop that plays in the cut scene lead up to a battle. You're reading and its playing on loop. When you finally finish reading you push the button to go to the next screen. @ 1:50 in this video they effectively "hit the button" and it goes into a short transition that goes into the battle theme. Then it goes into the battle theme. This is a really cool musical thing for this game. A video made by youtube channel "game score fanfare" explains it in depth (it has a lot of B roll thats technically spoilers so dont watch it closely if you do watch it early on). It requires a WHOLE lot of work for every single character to slot into every battle theme. Now how many battle themes it HAS, ill let you be surprised by :) and yeah you caught it, the pre-loop has same instrumentation that tressa's actual theme has. The character themes are a little too long for the loop so they evoke it by instrumentation And im not worried about break and boost being later. I think itll be a fun treat for post-game! :D
PEAK. Yes, battle music and overall the soundtrack from Octopath sounds kinda like Bravely Default. What's crazy about this is that Octopath is made by Team Asano, a dev team from Square Enix that got used to make exclusive Nintendo games back then, including Bravely Default. They later made Octopath and I'm sure Nishiki got some inspiration from Revo's work Also, there's a short video on Nintendo's channel with this song being performed in the studio. The drummer kills it. I would also love to recommend a video explaining what that first thing and the + mean. But I'm sure you'll figure out yourself by playing the game haha By the way, the game's artworks were made by Naoki Ikushima who also worked on Bravely Default alongside Akihiko Yoshida (NieR Automata, FF Tactics, FFXII, XIV, Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story,...). And yeah it's basically the same leading team, with Asano being the producer for both series (and other ones like Triangle Strategy!)
Literally was rocking out to this song with my friend in the car yesterday. Still fantastic! ❤ You play the game however you like. I'll be rooting for you.
Been listening to this series of Octopath requests as someone unfamiliar with the game as well, and honestly I can see what drew you to it. Even for myself, I'm considering if I want to check it out--I've been looking for something new to play lately, and what you've reacted to so far has been very compelling. Oddly, I don't know if Decisive Battle II is clicking with me entirely, but the rest of it has been super solid and has got me thinking of settings and other projects I've had in the past, which is always a good sign for me as far as music is concerned. Hope your playthrough goes well, and who knows, maybe I'll grab it myself... if it's available on steam, at least.
If you only have the time/funds to play one game for now, play Octopath II and not I. If I is a 9/10 game, II is easily a 15/10 for me, ESPECIALLY when it comes to music. No story connection between the two except for one postgame thing
@@darkpyro786it’s not that good of a game first one haven’t played 2nd yet music is there combat is alright I played better Story is mediocre at best stupid at worst
It's a shame that no one is likely to suggest anything from Octopath Traveler CotC. It's got some amazing songs, like the Master of Wealth theme and her boss theme, or the Bestower of Wealth.
He's already reacted to Those Who Await the Path of Desire/Who Awaits on Greed's Path, and I'm going to be plat requesting a medley of BoA8 boss music after he finishes this game
The first Octopath is great. Just enjoy the journey. It's 8 independent stories. It has a lot of great moments. Choose the character that vibes with you the most from the start. Primrose is my favorite Octopath character with Throne` in 2 a close second. Every character in both games is a treasure though.
"For Treasure" is Tressa's pre-battle song, every character has one.

The "For" songs are the equivalent of the "In Pursuit of" in Octopath 2.

Both of the Octopath Traveler games have amazing ost.
They're both woth a listen.

My personal fav since Tressa was my favorite party member.
Oh awesome to see you getting into Octopath!
This is such a banger. And the boost version of this is so good as well. It's wild how good this game tells a story through music.
BD and OT have the same producer, so there are some similarities!
Everyone loves this music combo, it's so fun and intense!
Tressa and Castti, my mains in Octopath XD
Oh god, i think this was like almost 2 years ago i requested this lmao
I REALLY hope someone points him to Octopath Traveler 2s Decisive Battle I
The best battle song IMO
