He was gone. I was devastated. It felt like a deep cavernous hole stabbed into my guts, the place where he’d once been in my heart now empty with grief. That was a few years back, I still think of him to this day. I’d like to think that if heaven is real, all pets went there too so maybe one day all of us who have lost a beloved pet meet with them again.
