It's so relaxing to listen to interviews when the host has done their research. Although cue me clenching my fist when he said he isn't from Belgium. That's so tired and uncool.
actually the use of "ridiculous" as a positive word is one of the hardest things to understand for a foreigner. I see why Stromae is a little puzzled about it :D
@@avatarlhamo3063 Kinda of, usually is absurd but in a negative way, like something that makes you laugh because it's very stupid Like in Italy if we say ''Sei ridicolo'' (You're ridicolous) it means that you are making a fool out of yourself So even if it's paired with good adjectives like ''You're ridicoulously good, amaizing'' to us it will always seem like that good or amaizing thing wasn't good in a serious way but more in a so bad its so good way, like it made you laugh and it's good because of that. I hope I explained that in a good way
@@cocoluft That's interesting, in England when we say things like "ridiculously good" we just mean that someone/something is much better than we thought it could be, for example if we said "You're a ridiculously good singer" it would be a higher compliment than saying "you're a very good singer", I guess it's used in a similar way to "extremely" when referring to good or bad things, though we still retain the meaning of it when using it in sentences like "That's ridiculous"
I love the way he talks about his ethnicity, he's proud of all of it but he was born and raised in Belgium so of course he'd see himself more as Belgian. This is something that I struggled with myself and I love his explanation

This guy is my favorite French speaking person. He just makes me want to learn French language so I can truly enjoy His art. Formidable is a personal song to me. Every time I have to leave my Love in the plane I get drunk and listen to Formidable 9 hours non stop. Longiness is the worst feeling a human beeing can feel and Stromae in the song did express it 100%. Je t'aime mon frère! Merci!
Matt Howard there are many different styles and personalities, but some of the famous singers are: La Caita, La Negra (half arabic woman who sometimes sings famous arabic songs in flamenco-style), Lole Y manuel (also famous for a track featured in kill bill and La negra's children), Remedios Amaya, Camarón de la Isla, Josè Mercè, young talent I really love: Pilar Bogado, Arcangel, and not singers but dancers: Farruquito (part of flamencofamily los farrucos) and Eva la Yerbabuena are crazy good. =). Flamenco singing style is very distinct, not everybody loves it. I'm less familliar with guitarists, but Paco de Lucia is ofcourse the first to come to mind, Sabicas, Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Manolo Sanlúcar. That should cover a good basis I guess, I hope you enjoy :).
I love his music because it takes on deeper topics than the usual pop/modern songs. I think it's so amazing, because I've been looking for music like his for a very long time. I always thought to myself, "Why can't music be about something other than love and relationships." Those are great! And I love love, please don't get me wrong. I just feel like there are other things that are important than the shallowness and self-centeredness of some relationships.

yes, yes and yes!!
I used this coment to keep looping this "eehh""
my fucking vibes
same... totally.
Each of his songs invites us to reflect upon human nature and social values in a unique way.Meaningful words and beat combined in a unique way.
+S.C Balon Yes, I agree, because I understand what he says in his songs, I'm also a French spekaer from the same country as him.
Return of Stromae, Santé ! : th-cam.com/video/P3QS83ubhHE/w-d-xo.html
Every single performance he does, he gets completely into the character and story. You can tell he is really passionate about his work and I love that about Stromae.
I met him in Brussels, he took some time for a photo and a chat....special guy...
I didn't know you were doing that
what is the meaning ? is it not in the meaning of absurd ? like the whole absurd genre
@@avatarlhamo3063 Kinda of, usually is absurd but in a negative way, like something that makes you laugh because it's very stupid
Like in Italy if we say ''Sei ridicolo'' (You're ridicolous) it means that you are making a fool out of yourself
So even if it's paired with good adjectives like ''You're ridicoulously good, amaizing'' to us it will always seem like that good or amaizing thing wasn't good in a serious way but more in a so bad its so good way, like it made you laugh and it's good because of that.
I hope I explained that in a good way
And sorry for my costant repetition of good ^^'
@@cocoluft that was really beautifully explained. Thank you for that
@@cocoluft That's interesting, in England when we say things like "ridiculously good" we just mean that someone/something is much better than we thought it could be, for example if we said "You're a ridiculously good singer" it would be a higher compliment than saying "you're a very good singer", I guess it's used in a similar way to "extremely" when referring to good or bad things, though we still retain the meaning of it when using it in sentences like "That's ridiculous"
I love the way he talks about his ethnicity, he's proud of all of it but he was born and raised in Belgium so of course he'd see himself more as Belgian. This is something that I struggled with myself and I love his explanation
i have so much respect for him as an artist
I just love how African it sounds, the way Stromae performs, the niceness of the radio host. Superb live show.
The two musicians beside Stromae are just amazing.
It's amazing how his influences are from latin america, he make music in french and he is noticing even on the english world, it's like a big mix of cultures, such a multi cultural music! he is a genius I admire him so much and he is so adorable!
you're amazing.
I would say influences more from Africa than Latin America
But still a great mix of music
Northern Africa, Flamenco, & Antique chanson francois influence
His influences are from Africa.
I love how he insisted at the end to thank his team
Strome is one of those awesome singers who doesn't need auto tuning to sound good. That's why he's my favourite!
He makes all his music electronic and the mastery it takes to play it live is beyond amazing.
It's an amazing thing about music and delivering it to an audience when you don't know the language, but you feel it. Incredibly talented and original. Unlike anyone else. Respect and love from Russia
The clarity of his vocals in Ave Cesária are beautiful. Listening to his songs help me with my French too.
*helps
"Help" is right because the noun befote it is plural
yababyabby Hate to correct a correction of a correction on a 3-year-old TH-cam comment, but “helps” is indeed correct, as “listening to his songs” in this sentence is effectively a singular noun.
@@itstant you are a man, right? I'm sure you woulnd''t know Blessed Soul's or Abby's mother tongue, you can only understand because they did you the favour of writing in English.
A morna in French! Fantastic homage to Cesária!!!
DAAAAMMMNNN that acapella version so good
Do you mean the cover by Pentatonix?
Bastien Orbigo I mean the acapella version Tous Les Mêmes at the end
Why no one is talking about his backvocalists ?
+nirvanacobain001 they did at the end :)
Manoli and Florian... they're awesome!
I've just rediscovered Stromae after his comeback and I'm impressed of his immense talent, whatever in music, videos or fashion ❤
This Formidable is even better than the official vevo. Viva Stromae! WOW.
Belgium is divided in two pieces ... the flemish region and the french region. only 2 tings bind us togheter ... the first is our national soccer team and the second is our love for this guys music. enjoy it ! he fills stations over here and in france. the Jaques Brell of this age ... now Stromae ... sing in flemish like brell did !
i absolutly agree with you, but i´m from the german speaking part of Belgium many peoples forget us, i never understand why....i love my country
Only two things??? Hockey national team, Romeo Elvis, Hooverphonic, Evenepoel, Davies Cup national team, beers and a lot of another things... ;)
The drunk performance is awesome! He is truly artist to the bone
u have to see his concert live at montreal ( racine carre ) !!
Galadriel Kurast YES that was amazing
@@shraddhakrishnan7314 I watched it all, it was insanely good
He has an amazing voice live and seems to be a really cool and thoughtful dude too. So many singers have great songs but are terrible live. Not Stromae - I'm definitely going to see him in concert next time he comes through NY.
+Steve Santore YOU MUST! I just saw him last night and it was one of the best performances i've ever seen. soooo so good. you will have a wonderful time.
yo, that pose he did at end of papaoutai. i was waiting for the little boy to stand next to him lol
Shame he isn't touring anymore. I think? I would cry if I saw him live.
@@mistyblueeyes4024 yeah, he isn't touring anymore. I would do ANYTHING to see him live though.
So mad I missed him in Chicago years ago. Ughhh
Merci!
Stromae is a VIBE! His music transcends language. Amazing stuff!
If Stromae is interested in dancing tracks with melancholy, it would be VERY interesting to see him colab with some flamenco artists
Stromae is a genius. That was so good. He is a 100% artist. His songs make sense. He doesn't just make money, what he does is Art.
Voilà pourquoi j'adore cette radio, on y trouve de vrais talents, de vraies musiques.
Dogtown Je me lasse pas de cette radio.
***** c quoi le rapport ? o_O ?
Dogtown exactement.
I want to learn french just because of him...love this man, he's a diamond, real artist
He has so much grace and poise. He is already a legend.
I love his music because it takes on deeper topics than the usual pop/modern songs.
I think it's so amazing, because I've been looking for music like his for a very long time. I always thought to myself, "Why can't music be about something other than love and relationships." Those are great! And I love love, please don't get me wrong. I just feel like there are other things that are important than the shallowness and self-centeredness of some relationships.
zaytoun mohamed Kelly clarkson too hahahahaha
go check out kendrick lamar my guy

hi your name is?
As a french, I'm happy that KEXP and the rest of the world are liking this, guy! he is awesome
Surtout qu'il est belge.. ^mdr
oui!
Any others you recomend?
hi ,i recomend you Jain you can try the song Makeba but it famous now . if you like french language you can try Pomme or lea Paci or Louane and for men artist maybe saez , orelsan , Eddy de Pretto and in old classic artist Jacques Brel (one of the main inspiration for stromae ) George Brassens , Serge Gainsbourg , Alain Bashung and many many others ... have a nice day
i'll go with Emilie Simon or Leila huissoud instead of Louane , but i agree with the rest
For those who understands french it's amazing. The work of words, the twist with sounds it's crazy. I still love and listen to that music 3years after😃😃
The poet, the voice of his generation. We're still to see his peak, he is just getting started. Genius. Thank you for this video. Just big, heartfelt thanks.
one of my life goals is seeing him live
he is really good, I saw him years ago just after the release of ''after on danse'' in 2009. it was such a small space with only a few hundreds people in my hometown in Brittany and I paid 10 euros at the time. He was formidable :)
Stromae's talent and art in the form of music is mesmerizing. Every time I listen to one of his songs, I feel such deep emotions at such a wide spectrum and I feel immersed in his thoughts and feelings. No other artist that I have heard makes such inspiring, emotional and meaningful music.
Laura Lagier well.. there is one... Michael jackson

Nosso Brasil é musicalmente rico e Stromae também ❤
Good God, so many amazing qualities in one person ❤️
Talento extraordinário!!!!!! Amo todo trabalho de STROMAE ! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Edith Piaf had a number one record in the United States-- La Vie En Rose, 1944, year of my birth. I like to think it was the first song I ever heard.
Goosebumps when he starts singing, what an ARTIST
Whenever I need a video that stimulates my creativity, this is my drug.
Quel talent, c'est magnifique
The Formidable performance, WOW!
What a character. The acapella version of tous les meme is funny. :)
