- Ride along as the Original Team and crew test out the new and improved (for 2013) Derringer 28. Thanks flyout to The Griswolds for contributing their song "Missisippi" which took the carves in this video to a whole different level of chill.
The Derringer 28 is an elite carving longboard packed into a fun loving mini longboard package. Designed to be super light (our lightest board at just over 2lbs), flexible to generate speed from your carves, and ultra durable (yay fiberglass), the Derringer delivers a low key, just-for-fun carving solution to commuting. This summer; stay calm and carve a derringer.

Man, this channel played such a big part in my child hood, I wish I never sold my Apex 37 a few years ago. Thank y’all for the memories!
Hey KJ, the thing is that we make our boards in the United States and Canada and we buy our components from premiere U.S. and Canadian companies who support the industry (and support some of our favorite pro riders to boot). That stuff costs money but has big time value as far as keeping longboard skateboarding growing as a serious sport.
You can buy some cheap board off of amazon, but its built in china if its cheaper than what we make and that just isn't the same, for more reasons than one
This is why I long board. I cant do tricks. But I find solace in riding in the warm California weather. Ive been following you guys since 2008, ever since I saved my lunch money to buy a Pintail, then spending my first check on an APEX. Original skateboards introduced me to a whole new world and so im glad to see where this company has gone to. I just with you guys put more effort into building new decks with the casual rider in mind, rather then the new generation of free riders. Either way, ill be a permanent customer for life. I tought my little brother to ride Original, and now teaching girlfriend how to ride as well. Keep up the great work guys. Ill be buying a Pintail or Derringer for my little sister soon.
-Cheers!
Jason Roy Hey Jh!
Thanks for the stoke, the support over the years, and keeping it real as far as feedback is concerned.
We don't get nearly enough requests that genuinely ask for something we aren't doing (beyond whatever is trending since 5 minutes ago). I am 100% with you. Casual boards (an riders) are probably the single most influential part of our sport. I can't wait to get on designing the new Customs and Torpedo (all of which fit that). Hope you like em.
Thanks for everything. _Scott
Nope, if you what you want is a small carving board then you will be getting exactly what you want! Scott, Brad, Jack Darby and Jay Cagney all have a blast on this board... and theyre all pretty tall dudes! This board be sick no doubt if ya wanted a small carvey cruisy board !
_Molly
goddamn videos always make me wish it were summer
Hey David, it's all practice and soon you'll feel the carves and cruising will be carefree. We have a lot of fun making these videos for everyone, so thank you for letting us know we are doing a good job! Keep skating man!
I'm conflicted between this board and the Manhattan. I was just gonna get a penny board but I figured I'd get way better performance from an Original board instead.
get a carver
I suggest sticking with the S8s for all-around performance :) I ride the Derringer with S8s and I think it's the most fun to carve with, with that set up! -Lindsay
What wheels can I get for my derringer that are good for sliding, right now I have abec 11 zig zags and they stay put no matter how tight I turn, which is good for maneuvering around but obviously not ideal for sliding.
Sliding is about the equipment but also about the technique, thats one of the reasons its so hard to learn.
Zigzags certainly aren't meant for sliding but as you get better you can power out little slides. My lady friend has 77a pink Zigs on her board and I can do little surf style slashes / slides with it, its just not going to be the 50 ft variety. The surf style stuff is what the derringer is all about.
Better slidewheels:
BloodOrange Liam Morgan 65mm
Orangatang Keanus 66mm
Awesome thanks! My zig zags are still pretty new so once they're broken in that should help. But I'll definitely consider checking out those other wheels. I'm not trying to bomb hills really but I would really like being able to slow down by doing something other than foot breaking.
+J. Brad I also would recommend trying orangatang keagels
I feel the exact same way. I saw someone on one fo the other videos asking about thoughts on Mini longboards, I said so long as it's a Derringer I freaking love em haha. Good to see I am not alone! Thanks for taking the time to post S.C.
hah! Stoked Leon, its one of my favorites as well.
Super easy to carry, super small and light weight, but super heavy on carving performance at the same time.
Have fun out there man!
I got all excited when I thought you said we were killing it, then watched all my hopes and dreams fade away when I realized otherwise.
Pretty rad for carving to be sure.
The Derringer wheel base is so small that throwing a large grippy wheel on there will stick like crazy, even with S8s. That combo means that you generate a lot of forward momentum out of every carve. I would recommend it for sure.
The Derringer 28 would definitely be perfect for that! It's a mini cruising and carving board that can easily be thrown onto your backpack. It's got a surfy feel to it when it uses Original spring loaded trucks, and carves super easily. -Lindsay
Andrew is one of our shirt gurus (among other gurus). One of the perks of printing the shirts, is he gets a couple of custom ones :)
Finally a video where its back to basics, no free riding just having fun and doing what we all do best.. skate
Most of our dealers carry the Derringer 28, you can also pick it up at the Original Skateboards website.
Fun little board for whipping around, particularly on small hills / flatland etc.
It's pretty good, depends on what you want to do. The Derringer is a really unique deck, primarily because it was designed to work with Original trucks. The flex comes very specifically from the section of the board just in front of the back trucks, that keeps the nose / front foot region pretty stiff which makes it easy to push (while the back generates carving capacity). With S8's its probably my favorite carving setup.
you guys are probably one of my favorite longboarding teams ever.
Whaddup Original,
Bought the freeride 41 a while back, just dropped the trucks through, and I just wanted to say how much i enjoy both the board and the vids. You guys inspire me, thanks a ton.
Hey Screen, I really REALLY like the Derringer with S8 trucks.
The key thing there is that you can get rid of the risers (which is a hack, and not officially supported) to lower the board like crazy. Makes it easier to pump, more stable, and an absolutely insane carving / pumping board. I would check that out first and foremost. Thats the setup I have sitting in my trunk for when I want to mess around but dont have a hill.
Hey Tea,
The thing to remember about Mini's is that even though many of the goals may be the same, a bigger board will always ride differently. The Derringer packs a ton of wheelbase so it rides *sort of* like a bigger deck, but if you take a look at the Arbiter KT (for instance), that board has a similar wheelbase but gives much more of a big board feel due to the width. That width lets you get into more serious DH and sliding stuff where as the Derringer is geared specific to carving.
Cyber hug received... Thanks for the good vibes!!! I'm sure Santa will be dishing out heavy numbers of Derringers this Christmas!
Hey! The Derringer is 28 inches long, made out of 5 plys of Canadian maple with bi-axial fiberglass. The Logic is made out of 7 plys of maple, so it's a bit stiffer, and the construction isn't as strong since we're using bi-axial fiberglass to hold out plys together. Using just 5 plys gives the board enough flex and rebound so it's a fun carving board! You can use Original trucks, or bushing trucks depending on whether you're looking for a surfy feel or a stable cruiser. -Lindsay
It really depends on how we are riding! I like to use black springs for just cruising around so I can make quick aggressive carves. I use red springs for freestyle to add some stability, and the white springs for freeriding. Also, choosing a spring depends on your weight as well. -Lindsay
Not sure about this yet.
We may make changes to the Derringer but the thing is that the board is an absolute classic as is.
I don't expect too many changes beyond maybe some graphic options or a slight change in width. That said nothing that would make it worth waiting (vs. buying now). If you are planning on grabbing one I would just do it, its a great board to have in the quiver and there is no use putting of getting your carving fix on.
Hi Tamanda! I personally like the Derringer more for cruising purposes. I use mine with the S8 trucks because it sits lower to the ground and is easier to push. The S8 trucks let me make quick, aggressive carves which is great in the city when you're maneuvering around people and other obstacles. -Lindsay
This is why i got into longboarding!! Everything they do in this video just looks like so much fun!!
For you I think some bushing trucks sound right up your alley with the Apex 40. The Derringer is super fun with Originals, and the Apex 40 can be the same with Originals as well. But if you are looking into standup slides, bushing trucks are a bit more fitting for that style of riding. Bears or Randals will do you just fine for a first bushing truck, both of which we sell!
- Bish
I owe my longboarding to Original. It was the original western sessions videos that got me into longboarding, more than two years ago. Thanks original.
Dudes! That's the best video in a couple of years! Has it all: ride, tricks, chicks, and great music))) re-watching it at least monthly and it bring smile to my face every time! Thanx
Hell yeah MT.
One of my favorites. Keep us posted on how you like that thing when it gets there.
@Originalskateboards i cant believe you guys finally brought it back!!
This depends on what you're looking to do and how you want the board to feel. S6 trucks use a riser and make the board really responsive for carving. S8 trucks do not use risers and sit low to the ground, allowing you to carve with a bit more stability. Bushing trucks will be stiffer feeling and will keep you more stable if you're looking to ride down smaller hills. Then there's a ton of different wheel options depending on the type of riding you're looking to do as well. -Lindsay
Stoked you think so too Niko!
Yowzah, this thread is the longest I have ever seen on our TH-cam channel lol
Congrats RKC, you have given me new faith in the hater communities ability to insight meaningful conversation on the interwebs.
I usually recommend going with a Pintail board if you're just starting since they are great to learn the basics with. If you have an idea of what you want to do, like freestyle, downhill, sliding, then we can point you in a different direction. -Lindsay
Hi Brad! You can also put S8 trucks (my fav. set up) for all-performance riding, and S10s, for stability. Or, you can put some bushing trucks on the Derringer to keep it more stable during some smaller hills. -Lindsay
that's Andy wearing that shirt, and he's the guy that screen prints them at our warehouse! He likes to fool around if he ever makes a mess up.. hopefully in the future we'll be able to have more of a variety of tshirts/designs up for everyone to choose from! -Lindsay
Hi Abien! If you're looking for a good cruiser I suggest checking out the Pintail 43. It will allow you to ride with a wider stance which is nice because you're pretty tall. This board is lower to the ground and is great for cruising and carving. -Lindsay
Check out the Pintail series which come in four different lengths and use Original trucks. The S8 trucks can be mounted directly to the bottom of the boards. If you're using S6 trucks you'll have to use a riser. -Lindsay
Since you don't have any interest for insane speeds I would most definitely suggest the Pintail !!! I absolutely LOVE the Pintail series, so much fun and such a great design and graphics. For your size and weight I will recommend the Pintail 43! That will be perfect for you! Have fun!
_Molly
The freeride 38 lion graffic is so sickk i already have some
Tough call.
For me personally I would go Derringer, for sure.
That being said that has to do with the fact that I have a fair amount of hills, so my carving board is usually the deck I take when I know its going to be flat. I actually leave a Derringer in my trunk at all times (along with an Apex 40DD a Maven) for that reason specifically. All of those other boards I just mentioned are great, but when you dont have a hills, its really fun to have a carving deck thats easy to carry / stow.
The board changes in the Fisheye effect was awesome!!
Im a girl and I have been longboarding for a little over a year. I was shy to ride at first but I got out there and I absolutely love it! Try it! It's a blast!
The Derringer isn't specifically built to learn to slide on, generally you would want a board with a longer platform and some more depth in concave in order to learn easily. I would suggest going with the Pintail to learn to skate better and start to slide. You could also look into the Freeride boards for learning to slide on, they are great and designed for that! - Bish
lol I watch this every morning before I go to school. It makes me feel so free and happy ^-^
Which ever wheels you like.
We have a ton of wheels in stock and many of our dealers have even more.
Wheels can be custom selected for your Derringer, it really is just about which you want.
This is the most chillax video I've seen in a long time. Nice :) Love the editing, skating, music, and camerawork.
I've been wanting this board for god knows how long. Today i finally decided to do something about it. hopefully i'll have it by the end of January. Cant wait!!
Hey! I will recommend the Arbiter! The board is built for downhill first. Its also great for sliding, I've been using mine all the time for sliding and cruising! Have fun!!
_Molly
It is for sure a sweet little carver.
Thanks for the good word Shean! Let us know what you think when you get that board dude!
Yes it does! That's why you can mount 75mm wheels with S6 trucks on this beat!
The stripe color is created by the color of the board,
When you go to order a deck you will notice that you can select red, blue, green etc etc etc.
The black stripes will always be the same (those are the grip tape) the colored stripe will change with the deck color.
So if you want black and red, order a red deck!
looks like an amazing board!!
This board is meant mostly for cruising and carving purposes. However, you can use Original trucks for carving trucks, or a bushing truck for more stability if you want to take this hill down some smaller hills. I wouldn't suggest taking it over 25 mph. -Lindsay
Hey,
That depends on how long of a board you want, and how much you're willing to spend. On the more affordable side of the spectrum are the Pintails, and the Derringer. However if you wanted to upgrade to a more high performance board, the Apex series are great for commuting, cruising, and everything else. Hope this helps!
- Bish
Any wheel that is 70mm or smaller works well with the Derringer and most trucks. Orangantang wheels are a favorite with the Derringer because of their bright colors and smooth ride!
_Molly
Haha, thats a blem shirt that Andy pressed up for fun. We do all of our own screen printing and tshirt design in house, so when a shirt gets messed up, Andy goes to town making it all his own. I am sure you could request an Andy special online but each one is different / one of a kind ; )
The all around boards we have would come from the Apex 40 series!! I would recommend the Apex 40 Double Concave for sure. The board is our best all around board, its easy to learn on but it has great kicks and a great concave too! So you won't have to upgrade it once you learn some tricks! Have fun!
_Molly
If you're looking to do some tight, surfy carves, then I suggest the S8 trucks with white heavy tension springs. If you want the board to be a bit more stable you'll want a bushing truck such as the Bear Grizzly 852 trucks. -Lindsay
Hey,
Yep! A couple of our riders filmed parts of this in Barcelona. Good eye!
- Bish
I have a Sector Nine Longboard right now about to get three more and maybe two cruisers. ALL SECTOR NINE! I love you guys, naybe one day I can go longboarding with you. Ill be posting videos on my channel tomorrow so please stay updated on mine because I just made it.
wow the part where the boards are switching at 2:37 is really awesome editing !
You guys make me feel like it's summer the whole year. :-)
Hey Andrew. With S6 trucks you'll want to use risers to avoid wheel bite. You could go with the S8 trucks and you wouldn't need to use risers. -Lindsay
I would go with the Pintail and the 40" sounds like a great size for you. The Derringer is a great board and a lot of fun but for just learning it might be hard to kick and push with such a short stance.
Hey Yes, you can do stand up slides for sure. The thing is the trucks are very carvey and the board doesnt have a gnarly concave to lock you in (meant for fun and comfort for carve and cruisn) But its good for some flat ground or mellow hill slides! For this I recommend getting the s8 trucks with the red springs!
_Molly
The S10s will make the Derringer have some really wide carves. If you're more into relaxed, stable riding, then go for the S10s. If you want a quicker, more aggressive surfy carve, then I suggest going with the S8s for all-around performance. -Lindsay
The Apex 34 AV Rocker is the board for you!! Its "only" 3 inches shorter than the 37 inch you have, but its such a light and lively feeling board! Also it has awesome kicks for the banks and bowls wile having a sick rocker for carving around and sliding!
_Molly
Yes! The Derringer is a great board to start out on. -Lindsay
I love your videos some I have watched several times. I just recently got a longboard and although my balance and coordination aren't so great I can coast around a corner and down the street and i love it. I imagine it must be great going the hills and the music pic is fantastic. I would love a cd! Maybe I will buy one of these little skateboards. Anyway I appreciate you guys much respect!
Hey,
I'm 5'9" and when freeriding I have a pretty wide stance, and the freeride 41 fits me perfectly. I think you should be fine, unless your stance is extremely wide for some reason. In my opinion you'll be just fine!
- Bish
Well, here's the thing about that.
Living in a hilly area and going with a carving board like the Pintail 37 or the Derringer 28 is a great option, assuming you want to S-carve the heck out of your road. That said if you want something that's stable, a carving board is not the answer since you NEED that instability to truly execute a good carve (though even so it certainly is not hard to balance). For bombing hills though, you want something else. Try a Drop Freeride 41 ($99) or Freeride 41!
Original your the best I ordered mine yesterday and you've already shipped it that's faster that any other company I've bought from. That's y I only buy from you from now on.
Hey!! Yea I surfed before getting into longboarding, and surfing and longboarding really compliments each other for sure! The Derringer is a great board that you can carve and do turns like in surfing, I recommend the Derringer for sure :)
_Molly
Videos like this got me into longboarding/cruising especially your pintail video thank you for opening my eyes to a amazing world
THIS IS SUCH A CHILL VIDEO
If you plan on going down some hills then I suggest going with the S8 trucks for a bit more stability
I've had this board for two years and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
The Derringer 28 from us here at Original Skateboards (which you see here in this video) is 28 inches long x 9 inches wide. Super wide / flexible for carving : )
If you will be going fast, the Arbiter is the board for you! That board is built for downhill and fast slides. Have fun!
_Molly
A response and a Syracuse fan how amazing keep shredding it
Connor! Stoked your checking our stuff out. I just spent a few weeks out in Denver, stoked on your city (And the mountains) Are you going to use it for city riding mostly? If you're going to get into any significant hills I'd say check out something in the Pintail lineup, or perhaps even look at the Arbiter KT, pretty versatile board. If it's pure city, the Derringer is not a bad choice, but I know even DT denver has some steeps. Cheers man _Brad
I like going with S8 trucks on the Derringer, which are 200mm. I usually stick with a 70mm wheel or smaller to avoid wheel bite. -Lindsay
Hey! At your height and weight, I'd look into a Freeride 38, or possibly an Apex 40. Both are great for tricks, as well as going fast and cruising. Check them out and see which one tickles your fancy! - Bish
Sure it's possible, just get some good sliding wheels. However, if you're looking for a board that's designed specifically for sliding then you may want to check out our freeriding boards or our Apex series. -Lindsay
Hey Toti, Yes we do! International shipping cost $60 and takes 3-5 business days to arrive. We accept visa and Master card over the website.
_Davey
We are constantly working on improving our line, one of which is the Apex 37 for sure! - Bish
this video is amazing! I don't get tired to watch.
The Derringers in this vid are the same ones on the site, all of the color options are identical except for the few clips where we were on an un-graphic'd version or the couple of old clips we threw in there just for fun : )
These are the videos I love from Original.
dude a longboard chick is honestly the best thing ever i love you original you make me skate lol
Upgrade time is the best time haha
I almost get stoked when I wear out a deck (surfboard, snowboard, skateboard, longboard, whatever board haha)
Derringer 28 will be an upgrade in terms of carving performance. The fiberglas construction really generates a lot more pop and drive forward. It's also a lot lighter.
So!
If you want a carving upgrade, go for it. I have a Derringer in my trunk at all times for that reason.
For freestyle AND carving look at the Apex 34 or Apex 37 DC
you truly have a way with words. -Lindsay
Hey there were so many different set ups in this video... I would say the most common set ups we used were Derringer with s6 trucks or bears and Orangatang Fat Free wheels.. Personally my favorite set up is the Derringer with a set of s6's and purple fat free's !!
_Molly
Hey, thanks for the support! We can ship to Sweden, it cost $60 and takes 3-5 business days to be delivered. Hopefully we will see your order soon!
_Davey
I'm sure it's decent for just cruising around and getting the job done! That board is most likely manufactured in China and is made with cheaper quality materials, so it's probably not as durable and if you're looking to do any high performance riding it might be difficult since that deck will most likely limit you. But, if you want to just go up and down the street you probably won't have a problem! -Lindsay
Hey Jonathan, I would suggest our Arbiter and Drop Freeride 41 for you. They are both made for downhill and freeride. The Drop Freeride has kicktails which are good for some tricks also. The Arbiter has a nice tail flair that you can use for tricks. Both are very stable and will lock you in great for any hill you hit.
_Davey
