  • Catherine de Medici, aka The Serpent Queen's parties were dubbed, “joyeuse magnificences” meaning joyful magnificences and were comprised of sumptuous, hugely expensive happenings that took place over several days where music, dancing, fashion, banquets and tournaments became a means of enforcing political control, especially in the interests of her young sons.

    Wow! I didn't know most of these. Those must have been some crazy parties. Reminds me of Elizabeth of Russia. She threw parties with the genders reversed as well.

    Yes she was not of as manipulative, pushy even, but as you say she was thoughtful and complex in her running of things.
    A shrewd strategist, and an asset to many advancements in 🇫🇷 France

    I’ve noticed and forgive me if I’m wrong but you’ve used English royal paintings in a few places in your video instead of ones depicting those of France. Example is the one showing the couple dancing while the rest watched. That is Queen Elizabeth of English dancing with her favorite the Earl of Essex. I’m just wondering why is that.
