Audio engineer here with 10 years of live sound, home, and car audio experience. When it comes to bass it doesn't really make much difference which way the sub is pointing as long as there is some air space around the box. Now in a cardioid sub configuration, yes it would matter but you don't see that in car or home audio systems often. The bigger issue with subwoofers is the distance between the enclosure and the listener, it takes quite some distance for the low frequency soundwave to reach its max amplitude so in some cases peoples car audio setups have more bass outside the car than inside.

It does matter the bass bounces from the trunk back to the front amplifying it i had 2 15in subs in my car and i ran them forwards, backwards, and upright and from personal experience and even what other said when they were in my car that when they were backwards they hit the hardest and deepest and shook the whole car lol

    • @EncrypticMethods

@@FroztiProductions Exactly, thats why they're called "subsonic sound waves" because it travels slower than the speed of sound contrary to normal acoustic audio sound waves.

true, when its sedan and there is no skeebox, then sound is supressed then there is less bass and it bang the trunk more then usually universal bodys (estate) are the best for it.

Ive commented this before but if your headlights are dimming when the bass hits buy a high output alternator for it, itll be louder too. Dont buy those pos 1 farad capacitors. But also if you get too loud you start breaking the car.

    • @honduh9348
      @honduh9348 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah, caps don't really do much. Upgrade your power and ground wires under the hood (look up big 3 upgrade) and add a second battery in the trunk first. Unless your running like 3000 watts or more 90% of cars will be fine with just a second battery.

Also with my experience it helps hide the distortion. But he also prob doesn't have the subs wired to hit as hard as they could he's prob only running 4ohm on the amp Bridged. So he's splitting 1 channels power between both subs instead of using both 1 go each. Or wire the subs to do 2 ohms which would make them hit twice as hard. ( if they can be ran at 2 ohms.) Those subs prob only hit mids and highs. But low bass is prob sloppy.

  • @dirtyd2316

The reason people have their subs firing towards the back is because the bass bounces the trunk lid and essentially uses the truck to amplify the bass. For a bigger car like that I would get a ported box for those subs if you want a deeper sounding bass.

It doesn’t matter which way you have subs facing because bass frequencies are omnidirectional unlike midrange and high frequencies which do matter which way they’re facing because they’re directional. That’s why door speakers and tweeters are facing you or the windshield to reflect.

When it comes to someone like them that do not know anything about hooking up subs. Facing the rear will help minimize the distortion. Because I bet he has his bass on the head unit maxed out which is a big no no. Because it makes the top load sound flat. you always want the headunit to be negative and let the amp do the work. It prob hits mids and highs good but low bass is prob crap. But hey as long as he's happy I'm happy for him

Hes is right on the sub, the subs should have room to breath or be designed to slot load. The hole in the middle is to let the back sound wave out.
The bump will be loudest 10-15 feet from the speakers. You can blow out a windshield with long through subs. Size of sub gets it deeper but not a big increase in efficacy.
Project truck tuned horn subs like in a klipsh horn. Have the exits blended in as fender vents. They will hear you a mile away.

Idc what anyone says It never sounds good w subs pointing toward the seats the bass just doesn’t hit as hard! It also depends if it’s a band pass or sealed box weather or not to let your seats down Sealed box facing the trunk w the seats up will hit the hardest. But rattle the car apart. You could also just bolt thru the box into the rivnut just pull the subs out of the box line up w the rivs and drill and bolt shitll never move but also a pain to get out..

Pull the speakers out and run bolts down though the box and in to the truck floor and then put speaks back together

Ratchet straps are used to hold down the infrastructure sound systems I've seen in the UK.. nothing wrong with that, does the job and does it well 🤷‍♂️

Subs facing backwards, sound better, and hit harder. Only thing better is facing them down.

The same subs with a 500rms amp could bump harder also you could have bolted the sub box to the bracket and the bracket to the wood bottom.
