Hi, years later ;) I wanted to reset my jailbroken iPod Touch. I select the restore file saved at that time in the current iTunes. But then the following error message appears: ‘this ipod was previously in DFU mode, but restarted and is no longer in DFU mode. To restore this ipod from dfu mode, disconnect it and put it back into DFU mode.’ What can I do? I would like to give the iPod to my nephew.
There is also a PB model of the iPod touch 2nd generation, but MB tools like Redsn0w work with the PB models. I also thought the certificate only broke on iOS 5-10.
I am stuck after opening and letting the app wait for an hour. (After trying to cancel the loading and then completely restoring and reinstalling the jailbreak) cydia never gets to reloading data. Not sure exactly what the issue is but I’d try restoring your device in iTunes, uninstalling all apple software on your XP computer, and reinstalling iTunes after again. That usually resolves weird issues.
I did a manual restore to 4.2.1 on the winxp machine. Then I had to plug in to the modern win11 computer to get past USB to Itunes recovery mode. Then I was able to run greenp0ison on the winxp succesfully. idk what changed but again. Thanks for making this video
Windows 8.1 and 10 definitely don't work. I had to use a white macbook with windows vista to get it working. Everything is fine until I have to login to appstore. It says it requires the latest iOS but 4.2.1 is the latest one. I know I have to type the 2FA code after the password so it isn't about the incorrect password thing. Is there any tweak in cydia that let me to sign in or I have to sideload every single app from PC/mac? Edit: I can sign into game center, however
Alright that's an iOS bug that nobody have a fix. I sorta resolved it by wiping the thing and set that up in recovery mode on a newer macbook that is linked with that apple id I wanted to login.

I'm using this to backup my personal IPA files due to the apple store no longer being supported on older versions of IOS and there doesn't seem to be a way to download old versions of apps anymore. App admin is broken and appstore++ doesn't support anything under ios 11 for 32 bit apps. Are you aware of any way to download older versions of apps?
@@3lectr1c Seems that the versions of the apps I backed up are already archived. I do have an iPhone 6s on IOS 10.3.3 if you might know a way for that version? I could then backup from the iphone and use it on devices running older versions of IOS. The main reason I want to get my own copies rather than ones available online is so i can sideload them with my personal license onto older devices without having to jailbreak such as my other ipod running ios 2.1.1
Same on the 6s as on older ones. Jailbreak and then get clutch running to dump the files. I’ve jailbroken a 5s and a 6 on 10.x using some method. I forget which I used. Doubleh3lix I think.

Delete the iTunes library file in your music folder and that error should go away. That shouldn’t affect the jailbreak though. Judging by your issue, you’re going to have to restore in iTunes and jailbreak again.

Well the only way you’re going to learn to do this stuff is if you take the steps to understand everything you’re doing. If you don’t understand a step on an online tutorial look up what you don’t understand about it. I mean that’s the way I learn this stuff. And what failure?

That’s an issue with specific tweaks, not the jailbreak. You need to look up a tutorial for tube fixer for sure, it’s more complicated to set up then just installing it. I’m not familiar with that other one.

I can’t help with VM use because this tutorial isn’t intended for use with VMs. I’ve heard before that installing the Vbox extension pack and enabling USB 3 fixes issues but I’ve never tried it.

Need more details. Did you follow my instructions exactly? As stated in the video, it won’t work on windows 10/new versions of iTunes/new iTunes drivers/etc. best advice I can give is to rewatch the video and check for anything you missed.
Not sure what you mean by “it won’t turn back on and it’s at 100%” - you either have a hardware failure unrelated to the jailbreak or it’s frozen with a black screen. Try a hard reset.

It could be that the NAND flash memory (the phone's memory) has failed. It does happen, and in that case it isn't recoverable. The first thing I'd try is to restore the phone in ITunes. Hold down both the home and power buttons until it goes into recovery mode, then plug in to a PC and wipe it clean in iTunes. If it won't enter recovery mode, you likely have a critical hardware failure with the phone's logic board.

Hello the Electrician, i followed your steps however my windows 7 vm never gave me a pop up to install driver software and my device is in dfu mode yet greenpois0n is not finding the ipod (most likely due to the fact i cant find the pop up to install the driver) update: ok i did a little more work and when i put my ipod into dfu mode it recognizes it but still doesnt give me a driver notification
I don’t provide support for people using VMs because I haven’t used them myself and they can be unreliable depending on which program you’re using. What I do know is that jailbreak programs won’t work under virtual box unless you have the extension pack installed and USB 3.0 emulation enabled.
Do you know if this works on a disabled iPod and if it deletes all the data on it? I'm trying to recover photos from a Disney trip i took 10 yrs ago with my family and havent been able to get into my iPod because I changed the password and forgot it. But know because of that it's disabled and wont let me put in any passwords and i really want to get into it and take the photos out but nothing has worked so far.
Follow the steps I lined out above and see if that works. Also try restoring the device in iTunes if possible and a different cable, port or both. All these steps will just about always make it work if things aren’t cooperating.

Sounds like the normal errors from what you did write, due to some of the default repos no longer working. Remove the ultrasn0w repo and one of those should go away. As long as cydia is working you shouldn’t have to worry about it. No social media apps work on iOS 4 anymore. I’d recommend getting set up for sideloading (I have a tutorial on that, second most viewed video I believe), and then sideload some old games and have fun. That’s the main use for one of these at this point.

It should work if you install the extension pack and enable the extension pack’s usb driver. I haven’t tried myself though and I don’t support this method currently.
Yes, though I’ve never personally tried it so I can’t help with troubleshooting. VMware works better than virtualbox from what I’ve heard. If using virtualbox, you’ve got to have the extension pack installed (jailbreak requires better usb drivers).

Not on a version that old. If you’ve got any IPAs that aren’t archived yet, throw them up on archive.org!

Yeah you should be online. No idea if it works without internet. iTunes 11 is needed for the tool to work, not the device

Something went wrong and got corrupted, it happens sometimes. Restore to factory settings in iTunes and it should be good.

You can look up those error codes - 1611 is related to a USB connection issue

good news is that my iphone and all it's files came back!

Hello the Electrician, i followed your steps however my windows 7 vm never gave me a pop up to install driver software and my device is in dfu mode yet greenpois0n is not finding the ipod (most likely due to the fact i cant find the pop up to install the driver)
update: ok i did a little more work and when i put my ipod into dfu mode it recognizes it but still doesnt give me a driver notification
I don’t provide support for people using VMs because I haven’t used them myself and they can be unreliable depending on which program you’re using. What I do know is that jailbreak programs won’t work under virtual box unless you have the extension pack installed and USB 3.0 emulation enabled.

No, it’s that the extension pack 3.0 drivers just work for this while the stock ones don’t. Not sure why

This can happen sometimes, try an iTunes restore which wipes the device then try the process again. 9/10 times it will work

Do you know if this works on a disabled iPod and if it deletes all the data on it? I'm trying to recover photos from a Disney trip i took 10 yrs ago with my family and havent been able to get into my iPod because I changed the password and forgot it. But know because of that it's disabled and wont let me put in any passwords and i really want to get into it and take the photos out but nothing has worked so far.
This won’t erase data but it won’t fix your problem. You need to look up a passcode bypass/cracker for that software version.

No way that’s reliable. Try windows compatibility mode.

Follow the steps I lined out above and see if that works. Also try restoring the device in iTunes if possible and a different cable, port or both.
All these steps will just about always make it work if things aren’t cooperating.

Sounds like the normal errors from what you did write, due to some of the default repos no longer working. Remove the ultrasn0w repo and one of those should go away. As long as cydia is working you shouldn’t have to worry about it.
No social media apps work on iOS 4 anymore. I’d recommend getting set up for sideloading (I have a tutorial on that, second most viewed video I believe), and then sideload some old games and have fun. That’s the main use for one of these at this point.

It should work if you install the extension pack and enable the extension pack’s usb driver. I haven’t tried myself though and I don’t support this method currently.

Yes, though I’ve never personally tried it so I can’t help with troubleshooting. VMware works better than virtualbox from what I’ve heard. If using virtualbox, you’ve got to have the extension pack installed (jailbreak requires better usb drivers).

Is this jailbreak untethered? Some people say it is but when I used it, the iPod wouldn't boot after a restart so I'm assuming it wasn't untethered.
It’s untethered. People having boot issues must have had something go wrong which is rare.
