I love the standard GM TBI. Simple, effective, reliable, and usually not hard to diagnose when something does go wrong. My 1991 G20 would get about 15 MPG with it all day long at 60. 65. 70 didn't matter. By comparison my 2002 vans actually get worse mileage with the fuel injection they run, although the 2500 is supposed to get about the same. The only bad year for the TBI is 1995; fed emissions standards were tightened a bit and GM's solution was to detune the TBI slightly in a way that reduced fuel economy, rather than spend money to really change a system they already knew would be abandoned for 1996. Under two grand really isn't bad for one of these, I see Auto Auction Rebuilds bought his parts car through IAA auctions and he paid $1600 for one with a bunch of damage from something falling on it and it turned out to have a bad transmission. Both of his are a couple years newer with the more desirable TPI too.
Tyler, you are a special man. I see the real humanitarian come out in you. I enjoy your videos and get caught up in the trials and tribulations of your purchases. I too, work on cars (just 60's-70's Muscle cars and the odd BMW) and can see the excitement that a purchase gives you and the lows of the (to be determined) pitfalls of your purchases. But, through it all, you are a real professional and it all makes great adventure. Keep up the fantastic work! p.s. if you get frustrated or want to rid yourself of a nasty BMW or Corvette, let me know and I'll hook up my trailer and head your way. Ken
I had an '82 and it was incredibly simple. Once you drilled out the PERMANENT factory covers over the adjustment screws, you just hook up a water manometer because everyone has one, then go to the auto parts store to buy a bent screwdriver, then once you get back home just turn the screws to adjust the water level in the meter. Simple! I sold it after a year....
I didn't see wholesomeness, I saw a busine$$ decision that will become a massive profit for him. "Wholesomeness" would have been driving this thing to a bus stop and giving it away to ANYONE sitting there.
Congratulations on getting yours running. I have an 84 and no amount of fixing, parts replacing, and grief keep it running for more than a couple days without the well known CFI hassles.

You messed him up by telling him to give it some gas starting it. Although the injection setup is similar to the truck set up, the ECM is primitive compared to the various ones used in the trucks (BTW, a great upgrade for these setups) and doesn't understand that, when he gave it gas you flooded it. At that point the only thing that would have fixed it is if he floored it and that would tell the ECM "I think I flooded it," and it would have shut off the injectors to "clear flood."
When he showed it to the guy for the first time and the 'Vette wouldn't start, I think I would have said, "Well, let's see if I can find a refrigerator for you..."

For now though we walk around the and enjoy other peoples cars so we get half the experience anyway.
The sad part is the previous owner spent so much money trying to get an engine that didn't make any power running when it would have been cheaper to engine swap it for an engine that makes more power and doesn't have crossfire injection.
@@mycosys you could but it won't help that much with the power because the heads can't flow enough. For less than $1.5k you can get a running 5.3 LS from the junkyard and replace all the seals and gaskets with a cam upgrade. It's easy and reliable 400+ horsepower for next to nothing.
@@richardcontinijr9661 This is exactly what I was thinking. Why spend so much money on a motor that doesn't make power, when you could spend about the same amount and swap the motor for something a little more powerful.
@@richardcontinijr9661 i guess, but then it would be another LS swapped c4, which is cool an all but its another LS swapped c4. Fine choice if you are being purely practical i guess
@@Radarriderr well you also have to think about cylinder head flow. The stock heads on the original engine just can't flow good numbers so a cam swap isn't going to do a whole lot. The stock heads on a 5.3 LS from the junkyard will flow enough to support 600hp+ no problem. Now you've got the foundation for more power when you have the time and money. I've found several junkyards online that take video of the engine running before they pull it and do compression test. I bought 1 from 2 different places simply to have for future projects. It cost me $650 and $900 each shipped to my house. Now I just have to find something to drop them in🤔

Crossfire's are not hard to work on. Fix vacuum leaks intake gaskets, balance tbi's, iacs and turn up the fuel pressure on the driver tbi. Most are set at 9psi from the factory and that's not enough pressure to run correctly as they age. I adjust them to 12psi and makes a massive difference on quick start, idle and throttle response.
That guys dad is so cool. What a guy. Glad you found a deserving recipient.

You really had to spam all of the comments about the fridge with your bad joke, huh? 🤣
Not all profit is in money.
You sir, are a gentleman.
“So there really isn’t a fridge?”
bet that guy donates it to Salvation Army as soon as he gets home.

He clickbated us with his MASSIVE PROFIT, but the wholesomeness more than made up for it.
Massive emotional profit
The massive profit is the tax break he gets from the last three giveaway videos he has done. 😂😂😂😂
I now know that whenever Hoovie puts MASSIVE PROFIT in the title, it's always gonna be the exact opposite 😂
The wholesomeness was the profit
I didn't see wholesomeness, I saw a busine$$ decision that will become a massive profit for him. "Wholesomeness" would have been driving this thing to a bus stop and giving it away to ANYONE sitting there.
Driving c4 corvette = 1000$
Giving away the 1000$ corvette to someone who enjoys it for emotional profit = priceless.
Equals a tax write off much larger than $1000. TH-camrs give away cars at the end of the year to buff their taxes.
But the guy wanted a fridge not the car...
except this guy wont enjoy it
I think Wizard’s new intro on his channel needs to be him yelling “Crossfiiiiree!!”
Congratulations on getting yours running. I have an 84 and no amount of fixing, parts replacing, and grief keep it running for more than a couple days without the well known CFI hassles.
What hoovie doesn’t know is new balances are comfy
Preach!!!
AND they were awarded the most comfortable/best brand of 2020.
New Balance is the best. I don't care if some people think they're "dad shoes". They also last forever. I have two pairs that I've been wearing for almost 5 years and they're still in good shape.

@@97I30T New Balance 515, I wore them for at least 4 years, and only got rid of them because the tread was so flat I kept slipping on wet days. So comfortable
I wore New Balance for YEARS before I bought a Corvette. In fact, I did a Facebook poll for a personalized plate. It now proudly wears "NU-BAL". :^)
That sprang to my mind too - when it eventually started there was a puff of black smoke and it eventually cleared all the fuel out and ran smoother
Correct it's very basic fuel injection just turn the key hot or cold, it will do the rest.
Yep
When he showed it to the guy for the first time and the 'Vette wouldn't start, I think I would have said, "Well, let's see if I can find a refrigerator for you..."
What a lovely gesture Tyler! I hope Santa spoilt you too. Merry Christmas!
Know I'm a year late but the car not starting right away IS this channel. A Hooptie to the core.
Hoovie is probably single handedly putting the Wizards kids through college....
Your Crossfire is misfiring. I'm surprised the Wizard didn't catch that.
Yeah, cap and rotor but no plug wires? Seems like it could have used a little more diagnosis.
This is the 7 Cyl Crossfire. I heard the miss as soon as he pulled out of the shop and thought it was going to be a joke or something.
Imagine being the poor bastard who threw thousands of dollars into this thing for it just to be a $40 part he could have replaced himself.
yeah but then needed $200 alternator, rota cap and points, fuel sender, then what ever it needs as still hates starting.
bin the intake get a new and fit a holly dubble pumper
@@edwilko8819 still the $40 part is what was making it unusable
Yeah but it still don't work.
Dude same story here, I bought a 90 c1500 SS. Advertised with a ‘’may need engine rebuild’’. Thing would smoke and wouldn’t idle, one idle air control valve , plugs and fluids. ~$200 later. Runs great

Possibly the OG version with Ricky Gervais!
This is the summary I was searching for
I just inherited my father’s 95, with 50,000 miles on it. It’s running great but after watching this I have a strange urge to drive it to Kansas and have the Wizard check it out.
I love videos like this. I can’t even say how much an old hooptie that’s not worth much at all can really change someone’s life for the better. I’ve had a rough couple years between a marriage, divorce and then Covid killing what was left of my business and it’s hard to just keep my transportation running and legal. I think having a relatively sorted old car would be great to be able to take my kids to car meets and the like and them getting to experience driving and fixing an old car and then enjoying when it works. For now though we walk around the and enjoy other peoples cars so we get half the experience anyway.
I remember those Cross fire commercials...
Damn I'm getting old.

The sad part is the previous owner spent so much money trying to get an engine that didn't make any power running when it would have been cheaper to engine swap it for an engine that makes more power and doesn't have crossfire injection.
or just swap out the crossfire system & likely a cam would have fixed both too.
Now I just have to find something to drop them in🤔
That thing sounds like it is running on 7 cylinders.....
[Then I watched the rest of the video where Wizard changed the cap and rotor]

Crossfire's are not hard to work on. Fix vacuum leaks intake gaskets, balance tbi's, iacs and turn up the fuel pressure on the driver tbi. Most are set at 9psi from the factory and that's not enough pressure to run correctly as they age. I adjust them to 12psi and makes a massive difference on quick start, idle and throttle response. I made my own manometer for 5 bucks to balance my tbi's.
1983 my boss bought one. First Vette in many years that looked elegant and understated in design.
